Had Lapband Surgery and now stuck.....ARGH!
Hello folks... New to this Calorie Count but loving I can write my thoughts... I have tried every diest and then turned to surgery.. After four years Ive lost about 100lbs and kept it off but I cant seem to move forward anymore from where I am ... I am stuck... ARGH! Of course the BYpass is always an option but I was afraid of it then and still afraid now. Want to try and do this the right way.... Need a good 150 more pounds off... Any suggestions would be great... Thanks
Jeni
Jenny,
Glad you chose to come here. I would guess that you can decrease your intake and increase your movement the same as anyone else.
Start by using the tools available, see how many calories you should eat, log your food intake, increase your movement.
You can be so proud of what you have done. You most likely haven't had to watch what you eat, but now your body is smaller and requires less calories. So your intake has to be less, too.
Question. Since you had the lapband has your stomach above the band stretched? Are you eating more than you used to? Is it possible you can go and have the band moved and stomach made smaller again.
I am just curious. I know that in a gastric bypass the stomach can stretch out, but I don't know about the lapband.
Anyway, I am figuring you can lose weight now just like the rest of us who haven't had the procedure done.
Welcome and if there is some way I can help, let me know. I come here at least daily (at least while school is out..I teach at a nursing school).
Thany you. I have hired a personal trainer and I am trying to keep my metabolism up. I dont think my stomach has stretch but I have gained weight back.
Thank you again for the support.
I sympathize with you. I had gastric bypass surgery and lost 100 pounds. But, 5 years out and have regained about 55 pounds. I feel like the ultimate failure. I am now trying to count calories, but find it oh so difficult. I am also determined to work in some exercise. If I've learned anything it's that there is no magic bullet - just hard work. Keep trying! Vickie
jeni,
I have heard from many people who have had both and come to a point where they stop losing and have have to start watching what they eat and add movement.
You keep on working. You can do it! What is your calorie intake now?
Vickie,
Time to forgive yourself for your failures and move foreward!!! You can do it!!! You are not a failure, you just have to start again. It was just practice for this time when you WILL suceed!!!.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm trying to stick to 1400 calories. My hardest time is during my working day. I want to snack. I'm keeping 100 calorie packs around, etc. I've been eating Weight Watchers frozen lunches, but am finding they aren't all the great on the nutrition scale. I'll keep trying.
Vicki,
I take the Healthy Choice microwave dinners to lunch with snack packs of carrots, almonds, celery and zero calorie dressing, apple, banana, v8 juice etc. to snack on as well as water.
If I don't I get the hungries and want to head for the vending machine. NOTHING in there is good for me!!!
I'll take a look at Healthy Choice next time I go to the store. I'm reading your snack list and looking at mine - I think I have a problem. Mine are 100 calorie oreo snack packs, 100 calorie cereal mix, and chocolate. Yikes - I better work on bringing in veggies. I have good intentions, I just don't get it done. One day I did bring in cucumbers and green peppers. Thanks for the advice.
I still have snack packs of Pringles stix and I have low cal skinny cow ice cream bars...but, I eat MORE healthy ones than crummy ones. I have in my pantry or ice box, celery, carrots, radishes, bananas, apples, walnuts, almonds, peaches, nectarines, canteloupe, salad greens, little cups of grapefruit, manadarin oranges, pears, peaches...
I keep snacks for those times that I think if I don't have something to eat I will die or quit. Sometimes I eat a nice big salad and then a snack so I am filled up and eat my goodie after it.
Today I have focused on eating a snack only at 10am and 3pm - it did help me stay better controlled. I'm trying to chew gum and drink more water when I feel the urge to eat. That seems to be helping. You are doing a far better job than I am at keeping veggies and fruits on hand. I am going to try and do better. Thanks for the encouragement. I hadn't thought about those little snack cups of fruit - that might help.
They are a little more expensive, but are really handy. And you can keep a variety.
I usually eat a snack about 10 AM and 4 PM and 9 PM. I try to save calories for my night time meal and snack so I don't go to be hungry. I have gone to bed hungry and kept telling myself, OK you are losing weight while you sleep. But I usually end up getting up and getting a snack anyway.
Can I do OA with Calorie Count?
Keeping food logs and counting calories is completely compatible with OA. Overeaters Anonymous (OA) advocates abstinence in-between... Read more
