LaraBars v. Luna Bars v. Bars
I have been wanting to incorporate some convenient snack items into my day, but I can't seem to find any bars that I really like. I tried to peanut cookie and the brownie Luna Bar and I didn't like either of those, but i don't want to keep waisting money trying to find one that I actually like. I do really enjoy the Quaker Oats chewy bars and Nature Valley bars, but those do not seem to have as many good nutrients as say the Luna or Lara Bars. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I like zone, clif, and fiber one bars as well. Fiber one bars are more like granola bars, zone are soy based, and clif bars...well I don't really recall what they are but they're more dense, quite chewy, and very filling.
I've tried Laras, Clifs and Clif builders... not Luna's because they're kinda aimed at women, so I'd be embarassed to try them. My favorite are Clif Builder's; pack 270cals and 20g protein, and taste like a chocolate bar
I also really like Bio-protein bars, but they are VERY heavy and filling though -- 320 cals and very large.
ive never had any are they american ?
I like Myoplex Protein bars and ThinkThin bars, which are both soy based, but I'm not sure you would based on your preferences mentioned. Have you tried Kashi chewy bars? They are similar to Quaker Oats bars but have more whole, natural ingredients. The only downside is that they don't pack in the 270-ish calories and 20-ish grams of protein that most protein bars do, but on the other hand they taste great and are a lot cheaper. If you have time maybe once a week, I think the best option is to make your own protein bars. You can flavor them as you like, don't have to add a lot of sugar, they're low sodium, fresh, and you can pack a lot of calories and protein in them if you like. Here's a recipe that I like:http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/428981.
I used to love Nature Valley bars aswell. The crunchy Apple Crisp and Peanut Butter ones were my favourite, along with the chewy Strawberry Yogurt.
But, I am not ashamed to say my Nature Valley granola bar days are far behind me. I much rather enjoy a good Larabar or Clif bar. I have yet to try Luna bars, but I have been thinking about it. Anyway, I highly recommend Larabars and Clif bars. If you are looking for more of a "cookie" or dessert out of your bar, Clif is the way to go. They are often glazed with icing and/or contain little bits of organic chocolate and sweeter things like that. Larabars are more of the "blander" bar, containing a blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices. They are made from 100% whole food and each flavor contains no more than eight ingredients. I actually perfer them over Clif bars. I also find Clif to be more filling as it is the bigger bar of the two. If I had to choose between a Larabar or Clif bar, I would definately choose a Larabar. It's all about personal preference.
we have nutri grain bars , brunch car , and quaker bars but ive never seen luna or larabars , i want one :(
I LOVE LARABARS!!! Oh my word, I just had my first one a week ago, and I seriously thought I would die on the spot, it was sooooo good! Then yesterday I found them on sale and bought a whole box, yay!
I've just discovered all of these high-protein/high-calorie/healthy-fats bars (clif, balance, larabar--mmm, etc.), so I have only tried a couple so far, but I seriously have at least 50 of them in a container in the kitchen! I thought they would make good snacks to take with me when I'm gone to classes for hours at a time.
Has anyone tried the peanut butter crunch or oatmeal raisin Clif bar? What did you think of them? In the UK they only seem to sell three flavours of Clif bars on the net, those being two of them, just wanted to know what they were like before I bought some.
I find Clif bars can be a little to sweet for me at times but they are still rather nice, Luna bars are pretty good to.
Ive only tried a couple of larabars, I prefer them taste wise but they arent as high in protein as the others. In the UK you can get Trek bars which are really good :-) or else you can get Nakd bars also nice but again they are lower in protein.
I dont really find the bars a filling snack but they definitely are convenient and useful.

I have only tried the Carrot Cake, Black Cherry Almond and Peanut Toffee Buzz Clif bars. I bought Cool Mint Chocolate and Oatmeal Raisin Walnut awhile back with the rest, but they are just sitting in my kitchen cabinet. When I get around to trying the Oatmeal Raisin Walnut one (which I ment to a long time ago!), I will be sure to tell you what I think of it.
PS - I agree about Clifs being a little too sweet. I thought the same thing. Especially when I started eating the Peanut Toffee Buzz. That's why I just re-stocked up on my lovely Larabars. How do you like Lunas? I have considered giving them a try but heard they are a little on the sweet side aswell, so I have been putting it off.
I just had a peanut butter curnch clif yesterday. It was delish. And not quite as sweet as the other flavors.
I find the Luna bars are pretty sweet as well, not as much as Clif bars though. I tried the carrot cake Clif bar once and really it was a bit sickening but Luna bars are nice enough Ive only tried a few flavours though.
lemon zest luna bars are my favorite thing ever

Yeah, we don't seem to have them in the UK :( Nutri-grain bars are horrible!
L.A.R.A. Lara Bars. Gotta try them! They are amazing! They have every flavor combo you could think of (everything from apple pie, german chocolate cake, lemon bars, and even peanut butter and jelly) and they are all made from pure nuts and fruits. Nothing else. Plus, they are high-calorie (about 180-220 each) and aren't so big that they fill you up for hours and hours so much that you aren't able to eat comfortably. I have tried every flavor except Coconut Cream Pie and I love them all.
I love Lara Bars both because of the taste, and the integrity. Most bars like Clif and Luna are sweetened and flavored with other added ingredients, but Lara bars rely soley on pure, whole ingredients... and still manage to taste better than the competition!
yeah the apple pie lara bars are a-mazing
If you are anywhere close to a Whole Foods, try the Perfect Foods Peanut Butter bar - these are completely amazingly good.
I suspect they are sold elsewhere, but that's where I've been buying them.

I've tried the Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Clif bar and really liked it. which was kind of a miracle seeing as I hate walnuts! it's really chewy and has lots of raisins in. generally I love any bar which has soya crispy bits in though.
I was given a box of Kashi Chewy Trail Mix bars a month ago. They are pretty tasty. I usually don't like bars because what they use to bind it all together is too sweet...I think of them like rice krispy treats. The Kashi bars are bound with honey which is a tolerable (and marginally healthier?) sweet. I have had Nature Valley crunchy bars before and they are tasty. NutriGrain bars are yummy, but you may as well be eating on of the new "Strawberry PopTart with 20% more fiber".
LARABARS.
Oh dear god, those babies are incredible. Totally all natural, healthy, but seriously- just amazingly delicious.
Zeb, I'm so sad you haven't tried Coconut Cream Pie. THAT'S THE BEST ONE. I seriously melt whenever I eat one, theyre incredible. I hope it's not because you're scared of the saturated fat.. it's plant based. Coconut (apparently) helps make your hair nice and shiny, and dude- it just tastes too good to pass up.
Larabars Cashew Cookie is the only one I have tried. Though I just did buy Banana Bread and Apple Pie.
Luna Bar Chai Tea is the greatest. Also Luna Sunrise bars are good but quite difficult to find. I know Whole Foods and Mother's Markets carry them.
Anyone try Nugo bars? Good for a sweet tooth Chocolate treat and about the same gram size as Lara or Luna bars.
