5'6'', Large Frame?
So when I perused the forums I noticed that almost everyone has a small/medium frame and hardly anyone is 5'6''! Are there any ladies out there who share my height/frame? What are your weight loss goals?
I remember when I was 140, my clavicle protruded from end to end. It's been a few years since then, so I'm curious as to how I'd look now that my weight has shifted and become more womanly, but we'll see.
Anyway, current stats:
SW: 186
CW: 170
GW: 150-155
Height: 5'6''
Frame: Large (Wrist is about 7 inches around)
Age: 22
Hi, if your wrist is 7 inches around at that low a weight, yes you are indeed large-framed! (unlike a lot of people who just think they are...) I'm 5'6" and I thought I was 'large framed' because my fingers couldn't come anywhere near meeting around my wrist, but now I think I must actually be medium - I'm down to 200lbs and if I squeeze really tight, my fingers can actually meet around my wrist! My weight goal is 180 (down from 265).
hi, i am 5'5 1/2" or 5'6" and i thought i was large-boned until i lost weight the first time... i have big hands and feet so everyone thinks i am big-boned, but i have little bird-bones. sucks, because that means i have to lose more weight!!!! so... i guess that means i'm not the responder you're looking for, but here i yam. ![]()
SW: 180
CW: 166
GW: 145 but when i get there i know i will change my goal to 130, unless i'm just solid muscle at that point, which is doubtful!
Wrist: 6 inches
Age: 37
Haha, yes. I always knew I was but actually did the measurements with a tape and realized how true it is. My fingers touch easily, so I don't really buy into the middle finger-thumb method, though.
Good luck to you and congrats on losing!
right back at ya!
5'2" at 243# and truly large framed. 7" waist, and i tend to have bony ankles and wrists. My goal is 130, which is on the large side of normal for my BMI. However, i image i'll be good at 140 too.
That's me!
I'm 5'6.5" and 27 years old, SW: 238, CW: 179, GW:150-155,
I had a body composition scan done once and they told me my ideal weight was between 151 and 164.
Ive accepted that 100 lbs is an impossible goal for my frame-size. I'm still hoping for 125-135 though.
What do you all think is the lowest a 5"6, large-framed woman should weigh?
I am 38 and 5'6"-5'7" SW 180: CW 164: GW 150. I will(like others) adjust my goal weight once I get to the 150 unless I am all firmed up all over. Because of a severe shock to my body at 24, I lost down to 132 and it was NOT GOOD! I was all angles and bones protruding. I think that 140 is probably the lowest weight that looks small yet still healthy and womanly with big bones. Maybe it would be different with mostly muscle, but then muscle weighs more so with a good toned body you might not be able to get to less than that without starving and breaking down lean muscle.
Besides, we still want CHEST, Right?!!!!
alle- I'm adding you since we're pretty close in age/cw! congrats to you! I might need to look into getting that body composition scan.
sarah- I think it's best to just worry about what looks good on you, not the number per se. I only use my weight as a gauge of my progress. I think I'd look best between 145-150, but I'm not sure.
beans- Of course we don't want to lose our curves! No matter what I do I'm a 38D with wide hips so I recognize I'm not getting smaller than 140 and looking healthy. :)
Thanks for posting this thread! I am 5' 6" and 182. I started at 190. My goal weight is 140. I'm 34.
At my smallest in high school I wasn't over weight at all but was a size 10. I think that will qualify me as large boned.
I'm wide and I gain muscle easily. I guess I've always been described as sturdy!:-)
I work with several men who are 5'5" to 5'8". And one very feminine woman who is 5'2" and a size 6. With me at 5'6" it leaves me feeling like an amazon woman! It's great to hear of other ladies my size!!!
I'm 5'6" and teetering the line between medium and large, frame wise. My wrist is almost 7", I'm definitely not small framed and I'm bigger than medium. haha. I'm 157 lbs and I want to get a flat stomach and muscular limbs, I'll likely lose weight in the process.
I'm 5ft 6 too!
SW: 203
CW: 178
GW: 132 - but i'd be happy in the 150s for a while ;-)
I think i'm medium/large.
Lovely to find a group who aren't aiming for 110lbs!!
I'm 44 - 5' 6" and started at 160 and am down to my goal weight of 145. I must have a med to large frame because at 145 my bones stick out and my stomach is flatish. I think there's always the temptation to go lower when your in losing mode - but here's the thing - getting to 130 for 2 weeks and then yo yoing back up doesn't prove a thing. For me it makes me sense to accept myself at 145 and learn how to maintain it :)
I'm 5'6" and large framed. Started out 241 lbs down to 203.8 lbs now and hoping for 150 some day. I've been 'lucky' so to speak that I never have looked as heavy as I actually am but the truth of the matter is, my health knows exactly where I am and I'm here to improve it. Once I get to my goal weight, we will see if I need to go lower. I agree that once your body gets to it's low, it will let you know by always making it's way back there if you get too low. Everyone has a set weight where their body is best and it knows even if you don't. Listen to what your body is telling you.
BTW-I should note that my wrist is 7" and my fingers don't meet. My smallest remembered weight in high school was around 130 lbs and I was a size 10. Never was less than a size 8 ever since moving to women's sizes. Highest size was a 22-24 at 241 lbs. My bra size is 40F. I wouldn't mind losing a little boobage but not my hourglass shape.
I'm 5'10" and my wrist size is 6'5". I have no clue whether I'm a large or medium frame. It seems like every website I've found has 6.5" as the cut-off point for medium to large. Does anyone recommend which I should be listing myself as being?
I currently have it down as large frame.
SW: at least 160, maybe over 170 lbs (bought a scale at 159 lbs and 34% body fat); GW: 135 lbs (then 130, then 125.... ) and 25% fat; CW: 125 lbs (22% BF) and maintaining. New goal: 130 lbs and 20 % BF.
I'm 5'6 though I've never considered myself a tall woman, just the taller side of average.
I have been heavy all my life in 8th grade I remember going on a ski trip where we had to be weighed to get the right skis and I weighed in at 160lbs. Everyone always told me I was just big boned, and it went perfectly in with my denial, I wasn't fat I was just big boned :)
At my current weight I have boney ankles and wrists
My wrist is 5 3/4" & I can touch my pinky finger to my thumb according to this I am small framed
My ankle measures 9" according to this I am larged framed
My elbow measuers 2.5" according to this I am medium framed
It's important to remember that all of these "tests" are just estimates as well as the recommended calories, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

striped- It is nice to meet other people with similar goals! Good luck to you.
kim- I'm adding you since we're pretty similar. :)
lonczakm- I agree whole-heartedly! I want to get down to a place I can maintain.
nilly- Smallest I ever was was a size 10 as well! Congrats on the weight loss!
violette- They are really just estimations anyway, go with what you think, or go to a professional.
ser- Probably going to get a body composition scan would be the best way to determine what you should weigh for your height, as well as body fat percentage, etc.
berry- I agree that people often use the "big boned" excuse to hide from the fact that they're overweight. However, at my weight my wrists are quite thin, but still 7" around. But I understand what you mean. It's not really about "frame" size, just finding the right weight for you. Good luck to you!
i'm 5'6" and 3/4" - so i usually say i'm 5'7. i tried that fingers around your wrist thing, but my fingers overlapped - and there's no way i have a "small" frame. i just have very long fingers. i found this other test online - it was in connection with an insurance company's height/weight chart, and it told me to measure the width of my elbow bone from side to side, and then, given my height, assessed whether i had a small, medium or large frame depending on the width of that elbow measurement. according to that chart, i have a large frame. that made a lot more sense to me, based on the width of my shoulders, how heavy i was even when i got really skinny as a teenager, etc.
i started out at 205, am currently 180, and my goal is 170. when i reach 170 i may set a lower goal, but only after maintaining 170 for a while - i want to give my body a chance to get used to the lower weight, so it doesn't start to think it's starving.
Hi there, Goodness im glad i found some similar people finally.
The frame estimate by wrist thing doesnt phase me. It says that I'm medium framed, yet the smallest ive been (hip bones poking and a cute, not flat and hard, but cute soft stomach) was a size 10/11!! I'm a THICK girl. I dont want to be all rock hard and bony or whatever.. I want to be womanly, but comfortable.
My stats are:
Height: 5ft6
Age: 18
SW: 180
CW: 178.4
GW: 150 .. then possible lower if i feel the need. But I like being a soft 150, just not a rolly 180. =]
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
