Large lower half/tiny waist: Pants Recommendatons

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone,

I need to buy some new pants and jeans.  After losing weight, I'm now down to three pair that fit me.

I'm about a US size 4/6.  My legs and back side are where most of my weight is, but I have a tiny waist.  Most pants and jeans tend to be tight on my legs and then gape wide open at my lower back.  If I try a pair that fits my waist, they're way too tight on my legs - if I even get them up that far.

Anyone with similar problems?  What brands can you recommend?

I'm the same exact way, only about 8 sizes larger (10/12).

I like Lucky Brand Jeans a lot, and I tend to go for jeans with some stretch in them.

Worse comes to worse, buy jeans that fit perfectly through your butt and thighs, and have a good tailor take in the gap. That could work well, and I've had it done tons of times on slacks to a beautiful fitting end.

I'm in a similar situation - slender waist, but ample hips and thighs.  I've heard good things about Lucky (like above), but haven't tried them yet.

I have found a really good fit with Lee natural fit stretch jeans, so that's what I go with now.

Zafu is a really good tool for narrowing down your search.

Good luck!

Have you tried Joe's Jeans, "the Honey" booty fit?  Excellent.

All of my jeans are Abercrombie because they fit best. I still have to have them taken to a tailor though. That way they can shorten the length for me.  I don't think we have the same body shape though. I only wish I had a booty,Lol. It seems like all jeans are made for one. Lucky girl! ( The grass is always greener on the other side. Lol. ) I have hips.... not a lot of booty. Therefore, waist size doesn't matter for my jeans. Butt... Doesn't matter. I have to go on what will fit to my hips best. That's how my pants stay on/fit me.

My suggestion: Go to the dressing rooms and try on jeans in your size. Try a few different key brands in different stores. Then buy the brand that has the best fit for your body/hips/booty/ect. Everyone's different. It may be a brand that surprises you. Lol

Try: Calvin Klein, Lucky brand. btw, I've heard pretty great things about American Eagle jeans. I've never bought them personally since I have enough jeans. :) The jeans from Buckles have pretty high reviews with my friends too.

or you could just wear a belt?

True! Belts work magic. I'm a big fan of jeans/shorts/shirts/ect that come with matching belts.

try the low-rise cuts - it doesn't have to be super low-rise (unless you wanna be crackin', if you know what I mean Surprised)

it took me a while to get used to NOT having the waistband at my waist but it solves the small waist/wide hip problem AND they're very comfortable

LoL! :-D I agree. I don't know why people are trying to fit things to their waist anyhow. It's all about the hips for me too. Try buying your pants to fit your hips instead!

Ha, ha!  I don't wear high-waisted, 'Mom' jeans.  That's just awful.  Who wants to look like Jessica Simpson?!  (Well, ok, she is nice looking, but those pants were a mistake.)

Even the lower ones tend to gape open.  While a belt does work wonders to cover the problem, sometimes a belt just doesn't suit the look.  I'd prefer to have pants that actually fit in the first place.

Levi's make's a cut called the Curve.  Try them in a 2/4 because they stretch.  alot.  In fact, now that I think of it, I don't really wear them alot anymore because even with a belt by the end of the day they are kind a sloppy looking.

I have a very similar body type and Express jeans always fit well for me.  They can be reasonably priced and have a nice stretch to them too.  I'm also short so I can find them to fit my length as well.

Aargh! I have the same problem! I was just jeans shopping yesterday and came home feeling SO depressed!

I have a tiny waist, small butt but keep my weight in my thighs, so even though they aren't HUGE, they actually do LOOK huge compared to the rest of me! I hate finding flattering jeans.

I definitely agree about getting low rise jeans, and probably go for a stretch but obviously not a really tight stretch.

Good luck!

Just thought I'd quickly mention that you look great!

I find that there's too much material!

the belt does bring it in, but then rides up or there are overlapping flaps between me and the belt... not comfy or visually apealing
