What was the last book that you couldn't put down?

Hey all! I'm on the hunt for a new set of books to read for the summer, and I CANNOT find anything that I want to read! The last book that I really got sucked into was Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, and I'm a big sucker for historical fiction. (I loved "Dream When You're Feeling Blue" and some other time pieces are just to die for.)

So, what was the last book you couldn't put down? Whats your favorite book of all time? Do you have any other suggestions for books I should read?

Favorite Book(s): The Virgin Suicide, The Hobbit, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, Gemma Doyle Trilogoy

Last book that you couldnt put down: Water For Elephants

Other suggestions: _____

Another book (s) that I originally started to read but put down the first time was the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy by Philip Pullman.  The next time I picked it up I set aside a few hours to get into the story ... and this stretched into a few days plus a lot of late nights!

"We Need To Talk About Kevin" for the person who asked, is a rather dark and disturbing tale written from the perspective of the mother of a teenager that commits mass murder in a high-school shooting.  The mounting horror of the narrative is skillfully handled and the reader is taken on a psychological journey that throws up a lot of uncomfortable questions.  I resisted reading this for several years because - well - I'm a delicate soul and didn't want to have nightmares!  But I do recommend it.

We should start a book club!

I liked Never Let Me Go, and Wicked (though not the easiest read, IMO).

We Need to Talk About Kevin has been recommended to me before... it may be my next book purchase.

I loved the Tommyknockers! I got totally sucked into that one.

I am totally and ridiculously obsessed with the Twilight Series right now. I have not read a book since 6th grade and I have read 3 out of the 4 books in one week. I stayed up all night tonite finishing the 3rd. I am addicted.

My Sisters Keeper...def was a book i did not want to stop reading.

I couldn't put down J.T. LeRoy's book after I picked it up off a street table (yes, I know he/she is a huge hoax, but it was horrifying, engrossing fiction.)

I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns...can't put it down! i think its supposed to be a follow up to the Kite Runner or something,

A Thousand Splendid Suns and Kite Runner are completely unrelated stories. You're not missing any previous story reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" first... but Kite Runner is better in my opinion so if you're loving A Thousand Splendid Suns read Kite Runner when you're done.

I have heard from a tonne of people that the kite runner is soooo good. So I'm mid-way through it right now and I really have a "take it or leave it" type feeling about it. The only reason I am finnishing it is because I'm convinced it must get better....

The people I've encountered who didn't like it are the people who are into vampire books and other things that (in my opinion) take zero talent to write. Everyone else I've met has loved it. So... sorry you don't like it.

(this isn't meant to sound as snarky as it does haha sorry)

The last book I read was "Prey" by Michael Crichton. I almost literally read it all in one sitting- took me from around 10am to around 4pm to read it straight though. I mostly just stopped for bathroom breaks and to eat. lol. It is a little science fictiony which I am not normally into, but if you can dig Jurassic Park, than you can dig this book.

The Wednesday Letters by Jason F. Wright atm!

The Happiness Hypothesis by Jonathan Haidt.

Recommended if you're into psychology and Eastern philosophy.
