'the last 10 pounds' reality show

has anyone seen this?

i saw an episode yesterday where a guy lost 32 POUNDS in 4 WEEKS!!

and they were congratulating him and telling him that it was a new record and everything.

that just seems really unhealthy and it was weird that a personal trainer and a nutritionist were condoning it.

i always thought that show illustrated unhealthy weight loss because it was usually around 10 in 2 weeks

but 32 lbs in a month! i couldn't believe it...

granted, i was a little jealous because 32 lbs would make be surpass my GW by a mile, but still.

I LOVE that show!

I didn't see the episode, but I find their approach mostly healthy and reasonable. Esp when you compare it to TBL.

I guess if a big guy, who never watched what they eat, got on a healthy eating regiment w exercise, he would be sure to see immediate and dramatic results.

The secret would be to see how he's doing after 6 months, 1 yr...

i;ve never even heard of it. what network is it on?

I think it's Canadian. It's on Slice channel in Toronto...

they're diets and exercise are healthy as far as I can tell.... Everyone loses at a different rate. Im not at the typical one to two punds a week.... I can fluctuate from 3 lbs to 7lbs in a week depending on what I eat and exercise...

No.  It's normally aiming for 10 pounds in about 6 weeks - which is totally reasonable given that most people profiled weren't dieting before so they drop a fair amount of water weight from dropping bad eating habits.

last 10 pounds bootcamp = 10 pounds in 4 weeks

bulging brides = 10 pounds in 6 weeks, i believe

it's never been in 2 weeks, ever.  unless the OP is talking about a different show...

and i don't remember calories for males, but they have females usually on 1500 calorie diets...and well balanced ones at that...

I watch it...but one thing that bugs me about it is the weigh-in. They get the person to stand on a scale and announce their weight with a great deal of disgust, and it's often in a totally normal weight-range (the idea is that these people only have a little weight to lose, like 10 lbs). And the trainer guy pulls out the measuring tape and with equal disgust announces "Hips - 39 inches!!" and the nutritionist peanut-gallery chick repeats "Thirty - nine ! Inches!" like it's just too horrible to fathom.

Many of us would be thrilled to have 39-inch hips, thankyouverymuch, so I really dislike that part of the show. I think they could present that part in a much healthier way that does not promote self-loathing and disgust over a perfectly normal (though maybe not ideal) shape and weight.

Also I can't help wonder when they do the pantry-raids and find all sorts of terrible junk and show piles ans piles of all the bad food they eat - how is it that these people have only 10 lbs to lose? Just drama for tv I guess.

I love that show, and bulging brides.

the diets ARE healthy; usually split into 5-6 meals with a good balance of protein, carbs, fats and micronutients/vitamins.. usually the diets are around 1500-1800cals, so they're not starvation diets

it is possible for a larger person to lose that said 32lbs in a month, when the diet is strict and the workouts are constistant, yes men CAN lose weight faster and easier then women... especially if one is already overweight; and besides usually the first 10-15lbs are mainly water and waste anyways.

considering an average person can fluctuate up to 10lbs in one day, it is possible for the results to be kinda innacurate.

notice how they surprise the "victim"? well then they weigh them WITH clothes on, and usually during the day, so the person has already had a good while to eat and drink a bunch of stuff... for all we know he weighed an extra 10lbs on the first weigh in just because of clothing, water and food.

in reality he probably only lost about 20lbs.. you know what I'm saying?

I think all those shows where they weigh the person mid-day with clothes on are pretty unfair... I know I'd weigh AT LEAST 10lbs more then I really do if I was weighed after eating/drinking.

the best time to weigh yourself is in the morning, naked, right after you use the bathroom... that will be your most accurate weight.

a lot of those men and women on the show probably do weigh a little less then their final weigh-in result

yeah i could be remembering wrong

it could be 4 weeks.. but for some reason i remember it being 2 weeks

but anyway, this guy did 32lbs in a month and was not that overweight to begin with.

and they normally incorporate intense bootcamp exercises and really clean healthy diet for the 4 weeks.

i do understand the human body has the ability to lose more than 1-2lbs/week

however i thought that was the ideal amount of weight to lose if you want to keep it off and lose weight the healthy way.

well keep in mind that this is only one guy out of like what? 100 episodes? Most of the people end up losing about 8-15 lbs

usually when people start a diet, the first couple pounds come off very easily as they usually are a result of less food waste in their body since they're eating less, and less water weight since they're probably limited to salt intake too

the body can fluctuate 5-10lbs with just water rentention alone.. and you can lose up to 12lbs just by having regular bowel movements// sorry if thats too much info
