Welcome!  CC has been so helpful, you will find a lot of support here.  It seems like if I read it right that you may be pushing hard and fast at first and not happy with the results and stop.  It is a slow and sometimes hard road.  If you eat less than 1200 a day your body will think it is starving and will hold onto the fat.  I find the food log is so helpful.  Eat healthy, eat your cals and workout.  After about 4 weeks your body will get used to the workout so you will want to change it up in some form.  Be patient with your self, this is a lifestyle change.  Take it a day at a time and good luck!!!
All I can say is to stick to it!!  I had similar stats - 35, 280 pounds and 5'9".  I am not sure why at a 700 calorie a day diet and burning 1300 calories for 6 weeks you only lost 5 pounds.  Your scale must have been broken is all I can say or you had massive muscle growth.

I personally had a great deal of success (ashamed to admit without exercise) at eating around 1300 calories a day and lost about 10 pounds a month until plateauing currently at around 190+ (that is because I have been not sticking to 1300 calories and because I have **yet** to truly incorporate regular exercise).  But, I have been pretty successful so far.  I would say to give yourself more time.  My job is at an office in a cubicle so I am pretty sedentary myself.

I did split exercise from diet (well, because I am lazy and not so hot about exercise) but my justification was that I wanted to see what decreasing my calorie intake would do for me and not complicate that with any weight gain from muscle gain (but, honestly, unless you are exercising something fierce, the muscle mass is not going to add that much).

I tried losing weight since I was 12 -- no success at sticking to it until I came here and gave myself 8 weeks to change my behavior.  This time so far I have been doing pretty great and know that I can lose 90 pounds -- I feel so much better.  When I get off track (as I have been recently), I come back here and do what worked for me -- logging ALL my calories (most important for me), looking over the forums for inspiration, and logging my weight daily.

Hey, good luck!  Do it for yourself.  You may want to think about not going so extremem from the get-go though and maybe a more gradual change in behavior will "stick" better.

My 2 cents.
Good for you! Hey, if you haven't yet, check out this post.

It could help you out!
THANX guys ? girls? those are fast responce and just what I needed!!  YES I did gain alot of muscle mass mainly my legs and you could see it really ripped , but the belly was still big..

On the eliptical I just really got boared with it the first time around Imean just use to the program and hardly broke a sweat!! then I figured well I burned 1300 today and king size snicker shouldn't hurt!!! hahaa man I was wrong!!!

Funny thing is I never felt I was FAT? I mean I am big but man the pictures latley scare me!! even when I go to the doc for check up they say Im in great shape and never mention I was in bad shape??

Im really reaching this time, i hope this works , I know its a lifestyle change and I have 3 boys and a wife and i dont want to be just the old guy on the couch!!! I want to be in their lives...

I have been keeping a log on my computer the last 2 days of eating but like I said I have limit myself to only fruits and vegetables,, I feel good !! I have checked all kinds of diets and it seems to me their just isnt one to fix us all so we need to try on our own and take little pieces from otheres!!have a great day guys!!!
Your discipline and focus is admired greatly!  The eliptical machines are supposed to be great but being in fresh air outside if the weather permits and walking, running, hiking is relaxing as well as weight losing!

Fruits are high in sugar,do imprtant to think nutrition too. Some protein to keep your metabolism going evenly too throughout the day.  2000 calories a day for men is usually good, 1300 is really low...staying satisfied with small meals 5x a day of lean meat and fruits and veggies and dairy should keep you going long term and losing still.

Also, weight alone isn't the indicator. Your muscle mass and BMI are very important.. you could be in perfect shape but weigh more due to muscles.  Get a tapemeasure out ...it helps with a reality check on what you think you are looking at...maybe you are in great shape already?

:)
Hang in there.  Don't ever give up.  As long as you're alive, there's always the opportunity to lose weight.
And don't try to change too much all at once - that way lies disaster! Humans are creatures of habit. Ease into your changes.
Well, whenever I've tried to live on fruit & veggies alone, it has always ended in a binge! So I definitely know how you feel! You do need fruits & veggies, but don't skip lean meat & dairy. They fill you up and make you feel more satisfied so you actually end up eating less in the long run. Just watch your portions and you'll be fine! I also find that eating breakfast and planning for a healthy afternoon snack rather than starving my way from lunch to dinner time helps me to stay on the wagon. How are you in the kitchen? I find it very helpful to have a low-cal cookbook if only to get some good ideas for new and different things to eat. It's easier to stick to eating healthy when you're constantly eating different things rather than eating the same old thing day after day... Good luck!
I had fallen in the trap of trying to change and work on too many things at one time.  That seems to be what you have done and given up when not enough results were seen in what you deem a reasonable time.  Give yourself time, work on one thing at a time (meaning - Change) and then work from there.  It is a gradual process and  I know by experience.  I have been yo-yoing for quite some time. I have finally found what works.

WHAT WORKS IS CONCENTRATING ON ONE THING AND GETTING THAT TO THE BEST OF YOUR PERFECTION YOU CAN OR WHAT YOU FEEL IS DOABLE AND THEN PROGRESS FROM THERE.

I hope you find this valuable advice.
WOW!!! here we are 7 days later and down 6 pounds!!!! IM am nuts about it!!! I mainly did like I said fruits and veggies!!! But I did binge last night!!!

I can post a list of what I ate if ya want but whats funny is I was never hungry AT ALL!! I stayer constant on eating 5 times a day and made sure I drank at least a gallon of water per day!!!

This article will explain why you haven't lost more

Obesity on 700 Calories a Day

It was a real eye opener for me!
you think I should have lost more? Im proud that I lost 6 pds in 7 days !! IM EXCITED!!!! really im not interested in loseing more than that in 1 week, I feel good and alot of energy?? tell me why you feel I need to lose more than that in one week?? thanx!!
hey wasp!

congrats on your success and sticking to it :)

BUT personally i think you should slowly start incorporating complex unprocessed carbs to your diet and lean protein. a diet of fruit and veggies is not sustaianable for a whole life and lacks of important nutrients too. plus it leads to losing muscle mass. it also comes from my experaince that with that kind of diet you will binge on unhealthy things eventually, i mean there are people who are vegan or raw and they are doing fine, so maybe it can be a lifestyle, but well i would just reconsider.

good luck to you!

With regards to the lack of bm (No. 2) You need to make sure to include good fats into your diet. The stools need lubricating. Also make sure you eat enough soluble fibre. Flaxseed and Hemp seed are ideal sprinkled on a salad or in yogurt.

Congrats on the 6lbs in 7 days. I think that's plenty.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yogurt sounds good lol!!!  thanx again guys!!! I love this place!!!!
