Does anyone do this? Realize at like 8-9 that you don't have enough calories for the day so you go and have a snack to bring you numbers up?

Example, I look at my calories and realize I only have 800-900 calories so I go eat something that has 200-300 calories to bring me up to a 1200 minimum?

Is this harming my journey by doing so? Or is it better in the long run to have the right calories so I don't go into "starvation" mode???

Do you think a night here or there to be low (not on purpose) is ok? or should I eat up??

I honestly believe this is personal to the individual but I definitely have found myself doing this.  If I had more carbs, calories wouldnt be an issue but without them my hunger is down as well as calories because carbs help with calories.  Carbs make me to hungry though so I do find myself often light on calories.

Im a strong believer in it doesnt matter what time of day you get calories as long as it doesnt interfere with when you exercise.   Occasional low days should be fine but a handful of nuts or some cheese can also take care of it too.

Ok so as long as I'm getting my exercise in daily (like I do,) than it shouldn't matter if I eat at 7pm or 9pm?

I just don't want to mess things up by eating to  get to the daily min calories.

I've heard it go both ways...but the very well informed ones seem to say that it doesn't matter when you eat as long as you stay within your calorie range.  Most of the hype about not eating too late is because alot of people who tend to eat late also tend to eat too much...Yano, they pull out the big bag of chips and end up eating the whole bag.  So just make sure it's in your calorie budget.

Sometimes (due to my late exercising) I don't get my last meal in until 1 or 2 hours before I go to bed.  It never hurt my weight loss.

That's what I wanted to hear! Yay!

Nope, I refuse to give up on my weight loss journey, and I am tracking EVERYTHING I put in my mouth, I will only eat just enough calories *usually a bowl of grapenuts with ff milk" to get me to the 1200 mark so I don't fall below it.

Now on nights that I've already reached the minimum goal or my goal (1700) I don't have a snack, I am only doing it so I don't fall below the "safe" zone..

Thanks so much peaches!

well, I am having a soy protein drink right now because I am almost 500 calories short of the minimum I'm supposed to have!! I'm still coming up almost 200 short of my daily recommended. But I ate a lot more than I usually do today. Go figure! Hey, by the way thanks for the message!

Awesome! You know I've noticed that too, when I eat more I'm using less calories (because of what I'm eating!!)

Congrats to you!! You're doing so great!!

Got your reply! Thanks

over the summer, I'd eat up to 500 calories after 3am treadmill runs, just before going to sleep, and I lost 15 pounds fine in three months.
Thanks so much everyone!
I think as long as you avoid the carbs late at night you should be ok.    I actually "schedule" a snack of 2 cups of white popcorn (plain) at about 8 or 9 every night...it helps get me over the hump from dinner and it's only about 120 calories!  I use it both to help me get my numbers up, plus also it just gets rid of the starvation feeling I get abut that time!

I find myself without enough calories somedays and have a snack.  So far it hasn't seemed to hurt me too much.  I have lost 22 lbs. in 3 and a half months.  (pat on the back).

I hate eating after 8pm or so, even if it's a 200-300 calorie snack. Why? Well because I am one of those people that weighs in every morning... and if that number is thrown off because of a snack I had last night at 9pm, then poo on me! :o) Haha.
if you workout of course you have to eat too, if u don't then its ok, to keep a low calorie, not under 1000, comon dont be worry about 1200, calories, that is nothing compare to what i have, and I work out 5 times a week cardio for 1 hour 5 times and weight lifting 3 times a week, I realize that I was so tired my blode sugar went low during those days, because I wasn't eating the right calories, now Im feeling much better, with more energy, eat to loose weight, dont starve yourself.. as long is healthy go for it....
ah... you want to snack late... have something low in carb, string cheese, yougurt, nuts, s few slice of turkey you are going to be ok
