Late night snacking.
So i just totted up todays cals and im short. By a lot! nearly 500cals.
So my question is..is it late to eat this much late at night? Logically my head is saying a calorie is a calorie no matter when i eat it but then this gets all mixed up with my silly ed brain.
Also what would make a good snack..usually i have a hot chocolate made with lots of milk (240 cals) but this isnt high enough today. Ive already had 5 portions of fruit today and dont fancy any more. The amount of sugar in them is bothering me today for some reason.
I'll repeat you over something I posted in another thread.
I know you're not after fruit so much, but it'll help - trust me. And the sugar in fruit is all-natural.
A PB and banana toast combo is a good, easy late night snack that won't be too dense. You can either opt for your hot chocolate, and then have a slice of toast (90-100 for a large, thick cut slice, I use Warburtons), with a large banana (110) and a teaspoon of PB will get you to 500. Grilling it makes it extra nice. ;] Without the hot choc, go for two slices of toast, the banana, and three to four teaspoons of the PB.
Don't fret about sugar! I got like that. Then I realised all my sources were natural and also remembered we still need some sugar to function just like everything else. :] And good on recognising you need something extra. And late night eating isn't bad at all, particularly if you need to catch up. It is just generally a better idea to go light on the food later on at night so you're not going to bed with a full stomach - I've found that going to sleep very full can give me horrible wind the next morning which is why I avoid it.
You could also make yourself a smoothie using the hot chocolate powder and bulk it up with some ice cream, or fruit (again!). Or, a fistful of nuts alongside your hot chocolate would also bulk it out - it's about 250 calories for 40g of cashews, I think.
Eating at night hasn't hurt me even remotely. I'm trying to loose and I've always lost, so I don't think there's any problem with eating at night.
Nut butters is another good idea. As well as a thing of Dannon yogurt. I think it's like 200 cals? Also, maybe a granola bar. I know some of them are higher cal even though they're small.
I personally crave carbs at night, so I might have a small bowl of cereal or two pieces of toast with some peanut butter or jam spread on them.

Figure out what type of eater you are and you might just find the answer to permanent weight loss.
