18 YEARS later......
Tommorow morning I'm running a half marathon. 18 YEARS after the last half marathon and subsequent marathon.
I'm a bit nervous and excited at the same time. I was what, 23 years old when I ran my first and only marathon. Now, 18 years and two kids later I've been able to get my body back in shape to do the half and am considering (translated: we'll see how the training goes and then decide) the full marathon in the spring.
Just wanted to share and open the forum to anyone who wants to share an accomplisment, big or small, since starting the road to a healthier lifestyle.
wow - good for you!
i'd love to do a half, but i'm a long way from it. but i'm running 5k regularly, and sometimes i enjoy it ;)
Good for you! I am 47 and just walked (jogged a couple of times) the Philly 1/2 last weekend. My third 1/2 this year! I trimmed about 2 minutes off my time--not much, but I was a little bit faster! I saw a t-shirt during the race that said. DLF (Dead last finish) better than DNF (Did not finish) better than DNS (Did not start) I LOVED IT! So, the fact that you even registered for the race is 1000 % more than most people. If you have to walk part of it--SO WHAT--you would have still finished before A BUNCH of people, like me :) Have fun and let me know how you did!!
Wow, that's so exciting! Good for you!!!! Best of luck!
Hey, have you thought about joining the Vicory Lap around Australia group? We log our miles in and see how long it takes us to run a large area (we just finished running around the world last week). We'd love to have you! It's a good place to meet other runners on CC as well! I didn't notice your name on the other thread, so if you were there I apologize! If you're interested, check us out in the group ssection!
Awesome!!! I've just started my taper for my first half marathon in a little more than 2 weeks. Last Sunday was my longest training run of 20 km and it really gave me the mental confidence to know that I can finish. Running the half marathon for me commerates my 5 year anniversary of quitting smoking after 15 years - YAY.
Just rememeber, if you're tired you can always slow down a bit and recover. Don't worry about your time, just enjoy your run!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to all of you!
The good news: I DID IT!
The great news: I ran the darn thing in 1.49 --- although truth be told it was really tough and there were a few times when I had to give myself a serious mental pep-talk along the route.
YEAH!!!!! I am way excited (sore, tired and really slow, but very excited) and really appreciate your advice and encouragement.
Good for you! You were able to do it when you were younger, and it just took some time to reclaim it. It really takes motivation, doesn't it?
a half-marathon...that's too far for me to even think about... I have never run a race of any kind, but I am now up to five miles. I'm 53 & just started running this year. (didn't know I could do it at all)
