Why do police officers have such a bad reputation for cheating on their wives?

I didn't know that they did.

But perhaps it is because of situations like your own?

I've got to be honest...I have never heard of this reputation.  It could be that I don't really know any police officers....

There was a woman who cheated on her husband to be with a law enforcement officer (ok, several officers...) at my old work. Havn't heard many the other way aroung though... and I live in a cop neighborhood.

My brother in law  is an officer, he says they have a strict man code and several officers have women on the side. In my situation (Hot Fuss) he just happened to be my ex boyfried when I was 17 years old and he also said the officers call the other women the trophies because the wives arent as hot as the trophies, no offense to the wives in the group, just curious about the way men think. At 36 years old Im still trying to figure it out.

This is making me crack up right now...I have no clue about police officer reputation but a cheater is whomever and I am sure each situation is different...and not all men cheat it also happens the other way too.

statistically, by occupation, LEOs cheat the most.

according to surveys that may or may not be valid. :)

If I had to guess as to why I'd say it's a combination of hero worship on the part of the women, and the fear of death on the part of the cops.

It's all that excess testosterone required to go into such a "manly" field of work. :) I've heard firefighters also are fairly unfaithful as well.

But the same could probably be said for office executives (you know, the ones always traveling for "business")? So maybe not.

My brother in law can be considered a cop and apparently can't keep his hands off other women...

I have actually heard this.. though not from any valid source.

Wonder if it applies to female officers.....  I mean the testoterone issue would not be the same.

Good point. Now I'm curious to know. Probably not enough female officers to get solid evidence though...

This isn't necessarily true.  I've heard that attorneys and judges cheat a lot, but that's the field that I'm in school for so those are the kind of people that I'm around.  I don't think that any one profession cheats more than the next.  My braindead husband did it and he doesn't even have a job.

I would suspect that there would be a preponderance of infidelity in any male dominated occupation.  Wink

Actually, I'm married to an officer.  The men that he works with all have different stories.  But from what he's seen, it seems like the wives of officers seem to cheat as much as the officers themselves.  My theory is that it's because of their hours.  Officers have notoriously crappy hours.  I often spend more time alone than I do with him.  It can be hard on a marriage if the marriage isn't strong and trustworthy.  I think it's the same reason why the cheating rate for families in the armed forces is so high.  It's a tough, stressful and often thankless job.  It can be tough on BOTH spouses.

On a side note, I can't count how many times he's come home and told me about some female hitting on him WHILE he was in uniform and at work.  I think alot of women like a man in uniform.  I'm guessing cops get alot more offers than the average man sitting in an office in front of a computer all day.  Personally, I'm not worried about it though.  He's never once given me a reason not to trust him...not once.  And I think THAT is what alot of marriages, regardless of the spouses career, seem to be missing these days.

I know several officers and most cheat on their wives.  I thought it was just our area or something.  I was an EMT and noticed that men treated me differently when I was in uniform.  I have no concept of "flirting" so in my normal everyday life, I don't often get people flirting with me.  If someone does flirt, they realize quickly that I don't get it and give up.  When in uniform, the flirting was ridiculous enough to be apparent to me.  I didn't care for it.  My husband was an ambulance driver and had the same issues I did.  Maybe it's something about being in uniform??  We were very lucky to have similar hours because they were rotten.  We got lots of overnight shifts, but because I worked in the back of the ambulance and he was in the front, they often put us on the same nights.

He is an ironworker (98% male in our area) and it isn't as common.  But maybe they aren't as appealing to women in that type of attire.  My husband comes home stinky and dirty almost everyday.  As much as I love him, I won't touch him until he's showered.  :)

I have heard that prostitutes have the highest rate of cheating on their partners...

I would need to look it up to make sure though.
