just wondering what your views are on laxatives???
Personally, if i dont take any, i cant gooo for like 3 days! even if i eat a ton of fibre!
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Health & Support forum
I just spoke to my pharmacist about laxatives cause I have the same problem.
She said that using the laxatives get your body addicted where eventually you won't be able to "go" naturally anymore. I have been using them alot lately, and now I worried I did mess my body up.
Instead, she suggested Metamucil bars (very good and very healthy) 3x a day & fiber pills. She said that you would be surprised how much you need.
Try a stool softener and the things I suggested. I am hoping that your body isn't addicted to them like she warned me could happen :( You may want to see a doctor if those items don't help.
I highly recommend getting as much fiber as possible such as super colon cleanse and smooth move tea. That is what I do when I can go. Also to keep me regular I take a swig of liquid aloe vera gel from whole foods. (It is not the same as the one you put on a sunburn it is actually ment to digest) this really lubes up the tubes :) Laxitives are really bad for you. Ride it out and go with natural remedies. YOu might want to try hydro colon therapy I do one every now and again to keep things clean.
I have had the same issue.. I have even tried colonics to get the process moving.. but overall that didnt help either..
I first recommend Water.. also i eat All Bran Strawberry Melody cereal everymorning. Someone also recently told me that if you take 2 shots of apple cider vinager a day it help you go and help decrease fat cells..
Good luck.. but i dont recommend laxatives.. u dont want to rely on them..
thanks everyone! im gonna look for that smooth move tea lol its sounds funny haha, and the apple cider viniger!
Miralax (an OTC stool softener) really helps me and it was OKed by my gastroenterologist. I recommend trying it!
Low sugar metamucil (generic) 20 calories - also fills you up and slows absorption of fats - - - not a laxative but a mix of soluble and insoluble fiber
Docusate sodium stool softener - - -
Lots of water
I don't know if apple cider vinegar decreases fat cells, I always thought that once you had fat cells you had them and that's that, but that you could work on "deflating" them, and that's what getting slimmer is. . . I dunno. But yeah, fiber is great. But be careful, because for some people, toooo much fiber can lead to constipation as well. It's a delicate balance!
i dilute 1 large TBSP acv in a bottle of water and throw a packet of splenda in it when i overeat....makes me feel SOO much better. other than that...
i used to abuse laxes, and trust me, not the way to go, even when irregular alot. took me about a year to get back into regular...you know. and i only abused for about a month. i will never take them again.
but i'll tell you what helped me a WHOLE BUNCH. raisins. 1/4 cup of raisins a day, and in a week you'll be fine...depending on your body.
also, there are these wraps out there from "la tortilla company(or factory, not sure)" that are only 80 calories and have 14 grams of fiber(they have alot more with alot of fiber, also). toast them up in a 400 degree oven, throw some cinnamon and splenda on them, and you have some goood fiber. :)
just don't increase your fiber intake too quickly, because that can increase constipation and irritate your...insides. heh.
hope this helps! :)
I used to be super dependent on laxatives! When I stopped cold turkey, I didn't go for 8 days!!!!![]()
Now, I go every 3-4 days. Once in a while I use Smooth Move, which is this natural tea with Senna. It doesn't ALWAYS work but sometimes it makes me go like crazy hehe.
I've also heard about this Salt Water Flush, where you drink 32oz of lukewarm water mixed with 2 tablespoons of unrefined salt water in the morning. I tried it once, but it didn't work for me. And it was soo gross that I was too scared to try it again.
I have always had problems with constipation. As I have gotten older it has gotten worse. That was the initial reason for my healthy lifestyle change. Eating healthier has helped somewhat (I used to go about once every 10-14 days, not I go about once or twice a week). Obviously I still have a problem. I went to my gastro doc last week and she told me to take Miralax every day. It is intended to be taken over a long term period, unlike other laxatives. I started yesterday so I cannot say that it will work, but my doc was very adament that this was the solution.
Most people don't get enough Magnesium in their diet. Besides the many, many other benefits of Magnesium it is also a natural laxative. (Madnolax, Milk of Magenesia etc) I take a calcium/magnesium supplement tablet every night before bed and always 'go' in the morning.
Foods High in Magnesium Serving Size Magnesium (mg) Beans, black 1 cup 120 Broccoli, raw 1 cup 22 Halibut 1/2 fillet 170 Nuts, peanuts 1 oz 64 Okra, frozen 1 cup 94 Oysters 3 oz 49 Plantain, raw 1 medium 66 Rockfish 1 fillet 51 Scallop 6 large 55 Seeds, pumpkin and squash 1 oz (142 seeds) 151 Soy milk 1 cup 47 Spinach, cooked 1 cup 157 Tofu 1/4 block 37 Whole grain cereal, ready-to-eat 3/4 cup 24 Whole grain cereal, cooked 1 cup 56 Whole wheat bread 1 slice 24
How much magnesium should you get in a day? I eat 5 oz of raw spinach every day, 2 cups of broccoli, 1 oz of pistachios, and 2 slices of wheat bread which are all on your list. Should that be enough?
It sounds kinda silly, but recently I notice that I wasn't quite as regular as I usually am. Now, I've been pretty vegan for about 5 years and recently started eating lean fish ect for a better source of protein. But I just stopped going, and started to really worry that maby I had an infection or something.
Over the weekend I was out and wasn't really able to eat how I normally would, so I bought a bunch of trail mix and jsut had that and water, which is a TON more fat than I usually have. It sounds kinda silly, but maby upping the fat and/or protein in your diet would help? o_0 My diet is naturally VERY high in fibre and I drink plenty of water too, but not that much fat, but one weekend of eating nuts seemed to fix it, strange!
Also, I get plenty of magnesium, so I knew that couldn't be it.
Try really crunchy apples with the skin and eat the entire thing. Or whole sweet potatoes are really good.
For some reason well-filled roast chicken wholegrain sandwiches...
they do the trick! Unless you're vegan...
Why do I get bad cramps after I eat?
