you can't be serious. You are 5'4'' and you want to be 100 pounds??? Thats extremely underweight and what doctors diagnose as anorexia. At 105 pounds you are already underweight! You shouldn't lose weight at all :S You say you have small binges...thats completely normal to happen, your body is screaming for nutrition. You actually need to GAIN weight not lose! The lowest you can go is with a BMI of 18.5..and that is extremely low and can be unhealthy for many women....and thats a weight of 108...and you're 105, bad!

and runnabe...at 5'3 you dont need to lose weight either. You're actually even MORE underweight. You really need to gain badly. at 95 pounds you have a BMI of 16! which is even worst :S and so unhealthy is not even funny. At 100 pounds you're underweight too....you both need to gain not lose.

Come on guys, we all know what's healthy for us, we've been here long enough to know what is a healthy and reasonable weight for each of us...Let's not post about reaching goals like these, its really triggering to many ED recoverers and people in general...

Stop trying to lose weight, get yourself some help if you need to and get healthy!

oh dear, this is not what i anticipated

sadly , it isnt what most people would anticipate to find here, specialy since this site is such a great resource to get healthy, not unhealthy.

I also read your posts svkas, and I think that you're within a normal weight..and should not consider losing more weight either sweets.

110lbs at 5'4'' is the lower end of the bmi, and the lowest you should go.

If you want to look skinnier, do exercise, strength train, and you might even gain a few pound sof muscle which in turn will make you look slimmer than you look now but weigh more and be more healthy.

remember this site does not promote unhealthy strategies to lose weight or any supports any type of eating disorder....being underweight is as bad as being overweight, or even worst...the list of health complications caused by being underweight are endless...and mos tof them have to do with appearance, something someone trying to lose weight focuses more on...

let's do this right....for the girls up there trying to lsoe weight runnabe, and loserxface...gain weight. not lose.

and svkas, just exercise, work on your muscle definition..and trust me, you'll be happy you didnt lose more weight.

good luck

this is such great advice. when i was 5'3 i weighed about 105 lbs and i never exercised so i thought was "fat." so i lost 10 lbs...imagine my surprise when at 95 lbs i was still untoned and didn't have that "smooth" body i was seeking. now i'm 5'4 and 105, a little thinner but not by much, and i've realized that starving myself is the coward's strategy, and it doesn't work. you have to exercise and build muscle to look lean and slim. and to work out enough to get that toned body you need to EAT to build your energy. that's why when i was a lumpy skeleton, i was jealous of the girls 20 lbs more than me who had flat stomachs...they ate and had muscles that hadn't wasted away!

I wouldn't call this underweight or anorexia. That's a bit extreme, bananee. There's PLENTY of normal healthy girls who weigh that little at their height.

I don't think they need to gain, per se. Just work out and reevaluate their goals/methods. Losing weight isn't going to get them what they really want and they haven't realized that yet.

i agree.. it really depends on the person and their body type. some people are fine weighing 100 lbs because they're just small. however, i don't think you girls really need to lose weight.. just exercise to tone up and you'll be fine.

sry double post

Im sorry but very few people have that low of a weight and are able to eat tons of food and maintain...My father is a doctor and he has treated girls and boys who are clinicaly undweright, maybe not classified as anorexia, but they are put on high calorie diets, in order to get them to a healthy weight of at least a bmi of 18.5

I myself know what this is like, since I come from a family where most of them are very slim. My aunt was one of those healthy super slim people, but she ate TONS and also did exercise...in the end she still had to gain some weight for health. At 105 pounds and 5'4'' you are likely to develop health complications in the long run. Maybe not now, and maybe you are maintaining that weight no problem...but being underweight, like I said, can be as bad as being overweight.

If they are eating a plenty enough to keep themselves healthy, have their periods, and they're fine...they still shoudl consider gaining a few pounds to get to a healthy weight...just to prevent future complications.

They shouldn't lose weight, but they should consider gainign weight. Right now, they are looking to lsoe weight despite their extremely slim figures...and when this happens there is a problem, whether that be a poor self image or lack of confidence, or an eating disorder..and these are thigns to keep an eye on because a lot of girls don't realize they have en eating disorder until its too late.

btw Im not saying that there are girls who are that height and are able to maintain that weight healthily....but its not normal, and underweight is a medical term for people who have extremely low weights based on their bmi's.

-site wouldnt let me edit

I wanted to add this:

One of them says that she cant lose those "5 lbs" like if she had been dieting for a long time to get to where she was, I may be wrong, but it sounds like that...if not then she should stop where she is and focus on eating healthy and exercise...eventually she will gain as she is still growing. And the other girl has mentioned problems with her eating patterns...meaning she has an eating disorder.

thats why I said what I said. I wouldnt throw around the word anorexia or any of that without knowing any sort of background info on someone

Runnabe15 and looser face - neither of you need to lose weight. The BMI chart is not always accurate, athletes with muscle are over weight on the BMI chart, which is not correct because they are just muscle.

However, your BMI’s are both under 18.5 and it is unhealthy behavior to want to lose more weight. The BMI chart is still a good guide line when you are aiming to lose or gain weight, and if you are underweight, like both of you are, then there is no point in losing more weight

I’m a personal trainer and I think that what you guys are looking for are slimmer looking, toned bodies, where all the fat you do have is solid and firm.

Resistance training will do this for you, and your metabolism will increase so you will need to eat more to maintain your weight! More food isn’t so bad is it? Haha

Neither of you girls meant to upset any one, but there are people on this site with anorexia who are trying to gain weight, and it is hard for them when they hear you girls say that you want to lose weight when you are already under weight; the people on this site who are your weight are trying to gain weight, yet you are trying to lose weight to look thinner, can you see why this makes it hard for people trying to gain weight to keep going, when you promote the idea of looking skinny?

I am not trying to be nasty or unsupportive of your goals, but I just wanted you to see why some people will be upset by your goals

I also think your goals to lose weight are unhealthy, so I am just telling you my opinion, you cannot expect every one to agree with you in a public forum

You also cannot expect people to support you to lose weight when you are underweight because it is not the right thing you should be doing

People will not support you if your doing something people believe is unhealthy

A lot of people would support you if you wanted to maintain your weight and tone up and exercise more! That is healthy

If you eat 2000 calories a day then you are naturally that slim, your lucky and you should feel happy that you have a fast metabolism! Why do you want to lose more weight?

Warbler02 is right - it is better to strengthen your muscles so you look toned and firm!

RUNNABE15 and LOOSERFACE you are ALREADY slim, so losing more weight will not make your bodies look better, becoming toned and firm and having a flat stomach will make you look better!

What do you 2 girls think? I would like to know how you feel about what I have said!

I agree with personaltrainer, you two need to focus on exercise, not weight loss, if you want to have a lean body. I am 5'3.5" and I currently weigh 105-106 lbs. I have a lot of pudge and I look like I weigh a lot more than I do. The solution is NOt to lose weight, though. I've already tried that and it didn't work. Last year I was fed up with my out-of-shape body (I weighed 105 at that time also) so I dieted down to about 96 lbs. To my surprise my body still didn't have that lean look I wanted. It was also frustrating because girls who weighed 10-20 lbs more than me had flatter stomachs and less flabby arms and thighs. Well, I realized then that weight loss wasn't my answer, exercise was. So now I am back to 105 lbs and I'm now focusing on getting fit and toned with yoga and pilates. It's easier to starve but it's not going to get you the results you want.

I just want to lose 5lbs. I have been 5'3 and 110lbs for a long time now and all of the sudden I gained 5lbs from the holidays. I just want to lose the 5lbs I gained!!

I'm 5'3-5'4 ish and right now 104-106 ish.

I want to lose about extra 5 lbs so I can be prepared for the xmas weightgain that I KNOW is coming. =_= I gained 5-8 lbs last year in one month! I'm happy with where I am although I wouldn't mind being in the double digits for the first time in my life since whenever. I'm asian and have a smaller frame compared to caucasians so... Alot of asian girls I know in general have double digits... T_T dang.

Right now I can't exercise due to hectic schedule (finals!) but next sem, i'll probably start going into more muscle training.
