5'5" and 160 lbs....looking to lose 40 lbs....anyone with similar goals?
I joined calorie count about 2 weeks ago and so far I've lost 4 lbs only to gain back 2 lbs.
This is the heaviest I've ever been....not sure how I let myself gain so much weight. But now is the time to lose it and get back to my ideal weight. I'm looking for people with similar goals so we can motivate each other and swap diet/excercise tips!
I'd love for us to help eachother out!
I'm 5'4" 170 lbs trying to lose about 30 lbs (I'm good at 140).
Once I weighed 199 lbs. I started traing for a marathon and eventually got down to 135.
I stopped running and the weight crept back on. Now I've cut my calories to about 1300/ day and am starting to run 3-4 times a week.
Your 2 lb gain could be water weight. Don't get frustrated, it takes time to see results.
hi randomlife219! sounds great! i really hope this works! :)
humanist_misanthrope: wow! thats amazing that you lost so much! how many miles were you running each day? i'm starting to train for a marathon as well that's going to be in october. its a half marathon- 13 miles. so hopefully the training will give me good results!
I'd love to train for a marathon too! But I think I'm going to wait until I lose some more weight before I "offically" start to train. I just ran my first nonstop mile since high school last week. So I've got a lot of work ahead of me! Lol.
Hey mor125 and randomlife219!
I too am 5'5' and 169 lbs. I officially started counting calories for the first time on 5/19/08. I am really motivated and did great the first week (lost 2 lbs), but I went to the Indy 500 on Sunday and blew it cooking out and having some cocktails. Darn it!
I'm back on track now and am really going to try my hardest to make this work. I think I may even have my husband interested in counting with me. I am by no means a runner but to speed walk on the treadmill at least three times a week. I often play outside with my two kids as well and they say every little bit counts.
I look forward to keeping in touch!
i am 163 and need to lose 15-20 pounds as well. does this site have a food journaling option? i would like to keep track of my intake.
jdh
mor i am also a runner! i train and run and then on down time i eat way to much! it is a horrible cycle that i put my body through. i feel like a drug addict! ugh! ![]()
jdh
i figured out the food journaling. i got a b+ for the day! better then i thought i would!
jdh
I'm actually not a runner. I signed up for the marathon hoping that it would motivate me to start excercising/running more. I usually avoid the treadmill at the gym and head straight for the elliptical machines. I think I avoid running cause it gets me tired really fast, I hate how sweaty I get, and when you have boobs its not that comfortable to run....lol. Its dumb cause running is a really good workout.
ichabod: thats great that you lost 2 lbs your first week! don't beat yourself up too much on what you had over the weekend. it was memorial wknd and bbqs and food everywhere! i went a little crazy myself last weekend as well.
randomlife: running a mile after you haven't run for awhile is tough. i know what you mean. you feel like you're going to pass out at first...but then after awhile its not too bad.
jdh: maybe your body needs that food because you excercise a lot? I noticed on days I do 60 minutes of cardio, I'm starving and tend to eat more. Probably to make up for the calories that I burned.
Hi Everyone, i've just recently joined. I'm weighing in at 144lbs, 5'4 and i'm wanting to lose around 20lbs. Have just got back into my running, could only manage just over a mile. I've also been doing a fitness dvd for the past 6 days which i seen a thread for on this site, it's called 30 day shred. It is brilliant, 20mins of intense exercise, my bum and legs have never hurt so much!!!
Yep,
160lbs and 5'4" seriously counting calories for the first time. I have always done atkins. So this is kinda frustrating not losing so fast.
i am 5'6 144 and want to get down to 130-135 i have already lost twenty !!! we can do it!! is anybody hungrey besides me?
moor125: Exactly! I'm really hoping it gets easier FAST!!!
jdh419: Maybe you're not eating the right kinds of foods to sustain a hard workout like that. I try to have a lot of protein in my diet. Take a look at this site:

It's Runner's World "The Runner's Diet." Hope it helps!
2002ajay: Getting back into running is tough! The fact that I couldn't run a mile nonstop was a killer! I wanted to give up right then and there! I keep hearing about the 30 Day Shred video ... I may have to look into it!
leslee24: Kudos for even attempting Atkins! I love carbs too much to even think about giving them! I've tried before, but I last about a day before I binge on carbs!
jeren: Congrats on the weight loss! Yes ... I'm always starving in the AM!
Somtimes i think calorie counting makes me go a little crazy. I'm constantly thinking about food, not necessarily because I'm hungry, but because I sign on to cc to log my food intake several times a day or else I forget the small things I ate here and there and also to make sure I'm still under my daily calorie limit. :T Does anyone else feel that way?
2002ajay: Is 30 day Shred an aerobics DVD?
But so what if he's embarrassed! I'm the one trying to change! :P
Lol...thats exactly what I do when I go to Burger King! (I go occasionally since its next door to my work)....I go straight to the nutrition info posted on the wall. I can see strangers giving me weird looks though. They're probably thinking...why are you even bothering looking when you're at a fast food place?! But you're right, who cares what they think! hahaha

I know how you feel, I am in the same boat. My weight has slowly crept up since I was like 20.......and my 28th birthday is coming up. I don't want to be unhappy and over weight when I hit 30!
I'm 5'6 and 160...I'm going for 136...I joined this site because I'm stuck and I'm not losing weight just keeping it off...lately I started to stay away from deserts... i remind how hard I worked at the gym so I don't over-eat when it comes to deserts...
LW: 175
NW: 173
Two lbs! :D I've been stuck at 175 for a while now so it's good to see some change! Lol.
jennapher: We are here to help!
m12max: Desserts are my downfall as well. What can I say? I love carbs and sugar! But it's all about moderation!
jennapher ~ I know what you mean about the age thing! I keep telling myself I'm suppose to be at my peak physique since I'm in my mid 20s. If I'm struggling with my weight now, won't it be even harder when I get into my 30s? But we just have to take control of it now. There's nothing we can do about the past, just be healthier from now on.
How many calories is everyone eating on a daily basis? I was thinking 1,500- 1,600. Not sure if thats too many calories and if I should be aiming lower? But my thinking is if I start off eating 1,200-1,300 calories/daily, that doesn't give me much wiggle room to lower my calories as I lose weight.
good job on the progress randomlife! :)
Do you know of a good indoor electric grill?
