2nd week on this lifestyle change.  I started with needing to lose 60 lbs.- have lost ~3-4lbs the first week, feeling a lot better & doing routine exercise (a first in my life).  Anyone else in the same situation?  If anyone needs to lose ~ 60 lbs. & wants a thread to keep track of our progress, just add yourself on .....

I'm there with you, babe!  In fact, I am (as of today's weigh-in) 61 pounds shy of my ultimate goal.  I'm  trying to do this slowly and my short-term goal is to weigh 195 (15 pound loss) by January 1st.  At the rate I've been losing, I might reach it sooner but I'm not trying to push my body too much because then I just give up.

Happy losing!

Sounds good Kathy.  Good for you with your weight loss, sounds like you are going to definitely meet your short-term goal.  I never really thought of trying to make a short-term goal...  Do you find it easier to stick with it when you do?

DEFINITELY!  I actually set much shorter term goals sometimes:

  • This week I'm going to lose 1/2 lb. or 1 lb. (almost ALWAYS attainable and often surpass!)
  • I'm going to try to eat 1900 calories/day every day this week
  • I'm going to drink 100 oz. of water today
  • I'm not going to have dessert when we go out to eat tonight
  • I'm going to do a Tae Bo video one day this week
I like meeting goals and when I set ones too far off into the future, I can't always appreciate the day-to-day progress towards meeting them.  I can't lose 61 pounds in a month!  Slow and steady works MUCH better for me.  Plus, it's easier for others to motivate me if they know my short term goals.  I try to keep a regular journal and you'll often see my goals there.
Yay, a group I can join! I am with you Kthompson92, little goals will help us reach our overall goal. 1lb/week is my goal. When were we going to do weight-ins? I'll weigh myself tomorrow morning and let you know where I am at. Ideally, I think Sundays or Mondays are ideal, but whatever you want is fine with me. I hope we can get through this together. I need to do this. Believe you me I have started so many diets, I need to change my life, NOW. Hope to hear about your progress and I'll keep you updated on me. LET'S DO IT!!!!
I'm doing a challenge in the motivation forum and they suggested Friday weigh-ins because often people's weight goes up a bit if they splurge on the weekend.  I'm totally flexible but the logic behind it made sense.  It's totally your call boombabies, since you set the group up.
I'm in. Laughing
I started it, but it's definitely our group.  So if you heard Friday is good, then sounds good to me :)
Sweet, then Friday it is. Let's do this! What kind of exercise are you guys doing to aide in your weight loss?
I'd love to be in on this one too!  60 lbs will get me to 200 lb, which is my first step goal.  If I can get to 60, I can get even lower!
Well, I for one am SO out of shape, I can only do about 20 minutes per day on the nordicwalkermachinethingy.  Maybe one day I can build up to 45 minutes per day ... I don't know how people do hour+ of cardio!!   And yesterday I started some VERY light weights, mostly to tone my arms.
Okay, I'm in! I'm going to try this again! I just started my diet, again, on Monday. I want to lose exactly 60 pounds. Whew, this is going to be fun. Right now I'm going through the feel where I have to tell myself that it's OKAY to feel a little hungry! :-)
mandi- the nice thing about that hungry feeling is- it passes- eating those more freq. smaller meals a day helps.  I also went through the hunger pains- but came out the other side- eating healthier & more freq.- now it seems that I'm always eating, but I'm losing weight & my body feels so much better.  Hang in there, we are here for you & I know you can do it. :)
This is great!  I have exactly 60 pounds to lose.  Can I be in?  I want to lose the weight before I turn 40 in April 2008.

sdmerrill, my birthday is in April also - that's my "goal" date, too!

Great!  We will be able to work together for the same goal.  I need this to keep me accountable.  It's so easy to lose track and start eating junk again.

Hurray for birthday goals!  I want to weigh 150 by my 30th birthday in July 2009.  At the rate I'm gong, I'll likely hit it before then but I can't be sure and that way I don't have too much pressure on myself.  Technically if you look at BMI charts, I would still be overweight at 150 but when I weighed 150 before I had a nice curvy figure and wore a size 6 or 8.  I think I have a heavier frame or something but I have no desire to be a size 2 which is what I was when I weighed 120.  Sadly, every chart says that 120 is a "healthy" weight for someone who's 5'3".  I just can't see doing that.  I'd look like a twig and lose my sexy curves.  I know because that was the body and weight I had in junior high.  I'm also heavily focussed on losing INCHES, especially around my waist and butt.

My favorite forms of exercise are riding my bike (I can only do 20-30 minutes at a time right now), using light (1 lb.) weights to tone my arms, and doing other stretching/toning exercises like windmills, sit-ups, etc.  On a GOOD day for me I'll do a 20+ minute bike ride, 10 minutes of weights, and 15 minutes of stretching/toning.  Those days are RARE but I try!  :)  I try to be proud of myself if I even get one of those things in on any given day.

I'm shooting for a 1900 calorie/day diet because I cannot subsist on 1200 calories like some people on these forums try to do (no offense to anyone doing that, but I don't think it's very healthy).  I also try to get in a minimum of 25 g. of fiber so I'm pooping away whatever shouldn't be in my system! Embarassed  In addition, I've been drinking 100+ oz. of water everyday.  Someone in another forum suggested that your water intake should be 1/2 your weight in pounds.  Ergo, I weigh 209 so I need at least 100 oz. each day.  It took me awhile to work up to this.

I've just joined today and have a goal of 30 lost lbs by December 15th, but I need to lose more over time. I am in as well.
I'd love to join in!

I now have 60 lbs to lose!  I recently lost 5 pounds so I'm stoked!  :)  60 looks sooooooo much better than 65!

I'm really excited to get involved in this!

I usually try to walk my dogs 4 miles a day (and when I do, I also attempt to run a bit but it's hard with the 'stop and sniff', lol).  If I'm not able to do 4 miles I try to jump on my Gazelle for at least 30 minutes.  I also like to try to give myself and "alt workout day" once a week where I'll hit up the driving range or the rock climbing gym.  I think it's good to mix it up!

i want to join I have more than 60 to lose but that will be nice, But I dont know how many calories to eat,  I'm 5"4 weigh 239 do no exercise because i have 4 herniated disc in my back and hip spurss right now exercise is out.  any suggestions on calories?
bmoyer- I wasn't sure how many cals either, but when I entered all the info into CC- using the tools it told me my BMI, how much I need to lose & even gave me a date to lose by- with how many lbs/wk.  It also told me how many cals. I should be consuming to achieve those goals.  For me- 5'2" & 183lbs- it suggested 1200 cals/day & so far that is what I have been doing & I'm losing weight :)
