60 lbs. to lose club... anyone want to join?--- Sorry group is closed
bmoyer- 2000 calories is considered a "normal" diet for a person of average height/weight who needs to maintain their weight. I would start at 1900 calories/day and decrease by 100 calories/day until you get to a comfortable eating range where you are also losing a bit of weight.
Also, what "little" exercises can you do? Any? When I'm at the computer I like to slowly expand and contract my stomach muscles to get in some extra toning. Can you do curls with light hand weights while sitting down? Can you sit in a chair and do leg lifts? I know it doesn't sound like much but little bits like that WILL burn calories. Hope you feel better soon.
I played basketball in High school for four years so I am no stranger to intense conditioning and lots of running. Sadly, my first 2 years in college I have totally stopped exercising and have gained a lot of weight. I know I am capable of getting back in basketball shape and I have to start doing 15 minutes of cardio, hopefully increasing that to one hour +. I have always been a big girl. I am 5'11" and around 280 pounds last time I checked. So I have a lot of weight I am carrying. With 60 gone, there should be a massive change in my physical appearance and I cannot wait. I am so excited!
I came to CC on 8/3 and started counting calories. I went to the doc today and weighed 182 so I've lost 9 pounds in 6 weeks but she still put me on blood pressure medication. Just a diuretic for now. I have to go back in 2 weeks to see if it has helped. My BP today was 150/94. Actually, last Thursday morning I weighed 178 but that was before we went on vacation to visit friends and family in the Midwest. That trip meant lots of pork, potatoes, Bratwurst, pies, German Potato Salad, beer, etc. :(
I also have high cholesterol. Gettin' old is hell and I have to say...I AM my Mother who had a couple of strokes, a heart attack, a pacemaker and recently (7/23/07) passed away from colorectal cancer after a 6 year battle. Thus, my decision to eat a little better.
Friday weigh-ins work great for me. I tend to agree with the theory of probably being a little less rigid with food on the weekends so Friday is a good day.
I might be the "oldie" of the group at 53. :)
It was not just my Mom. She received her "recurrent cancer" phone call on 4/10/06 and then on 4/12/06 my Dad was told that his breathing problem and reason for admission to the hospital was Mesothelioma. Yes, he worked in a foundry and around asbestos for 40 years plus. :( My Dad is still hanging on but is getting weaker and having more trouble breathing. He's doing OK and so am I. At least we have had time to prepare....
Anyway, perhaps through proper diet and exercise I can help myself live and enjoy without all the problems (which could be quite hereditary) that my Mom had.
That's why I'm here and motivated. :))
I'm in! Just went to the Dr yesterday, and I weigh more than I thought. I need to lose 62 lbs. I just had a tummy tuck 6 weeks ago, and I am ready to hit the gym again. I haven't been in almost 3 months. I just got the ok to go. I have already lost 100+ lbs. I have serious problems with my adbominal wall, it is covered in mesh, due to hernias, so I will never have a six pack or anything, but I can still lose weight, and the Dr will give me the stomach I want. We discussed my losing 60 lbs. I weigh 220 right now, and am 5'8". I worked out frequently until surgery, and like having muscle. I want to get that back and lose these last 60 lbs! My reward is going to be one more surgery, can't wait! I eat less than 1500 calories a day, but am trying to eat a little more. I don't drink anything during the week but water. I have beer on the weekends if I go out... I know it's more calories, but I like it. I need to eat healthier to speed up my metabolism, it's just hard because i work 2 fulltime jobs now. i am moving to AZ in June, and I have to save money. I want to lose the weight by January or Febuary at the latest. I have to have the one last surgery before I go... So... I'm in. Any tips would be appreciated, and I will share anything I learn!
This morning I am at 211, (down 3 lbs from last Friday morning.)
Losing 60 lbs from this point would be perfect for me (151 may be high for some folks, but I'd be just thrilled with it!!!)

Friday, September 14, 2007- official weigh-in--- I thought this might be helpful to see it all in one place- the people in our group & their weights in one spot; I will continue to edit this & add more weights & maybe names if anyone else wants to join. I am so proud of all of you, whether you've lost, possibly gained or even just maintained-- it's a process & it will take time, but we can do this together & I hope this will help us to track our progress easier. If you guys want me to do it differently just let me know :)
