Quote  |  Reply
2nd week on this lifestyle change.  I started with needing to lose 60 lbs.- have lost ~3-4lbs the first week, feeling a lot better & doing routine exercise (a first in my life).  Anyone else in the same situation?  If anyone needs to lose ~ 60 lbs. & wants a thread to keep track of our progress, just add yourself on .....

bmoyer- 2000 calories is considered a "normal" diet for a person of average height/weight who needs to maintain their weight.  I would start at 1900 calories/day and decrease by 100 calories/day until you get to a comfortable eating range where you are also losing a bit of weight.

Also, what "little" exercises can you do?  Any?  When I'm at the computer I like to slowly expand and contract my stomach muscles to get in some extra toning.  Can you do curls with light hand weights while sitting down?  Can you sit in a chair and do leg lifts?  I know it doesn't sound like much but little bits like that WILL burn calories.  Hope you feel better soon.

So tomorrow is my first weigh-in, its weird to say but I am excited to get started. usually I cringe at the thought of weighing myself but knowing that the number is going to go down and down is a real turn on and I am so excited. Right now I am just carefully counting my calories and trying to stay at a 1500-1600 range, drinking loads of water and starting a conditioning workout regiment. I am only 20 years old, so I do not have as many physical obstacles as some other people, so my workout will get more intense as I move along.

I played basketball in High school for four years so I am no stranger to intense conditioning and lots of running. Sadly, my first 2 years in college I have totally stopped exercising and have gained a lot of weight. I know I am capable of getting back in basketball shape and I have to start doing 15 minutes of cardio, hopefully increasing that to one hour +. I have always been a big girl. I am 5'11" and around 280 pounds last time I checked. So I have a lot of weight I am carrying. With 60 gone, there should be a massive change in my physical appearance and I cannot wait. I am so excited!
Count me in.  My highest weight was 200 (sometime this summer) and with a goal of 140, that's 60 pounds.  I went to the doc on 8/3 weighing 191.  She was being kind and told me I needed to lose 40 pounds.

I came to CC on 8/3 and started counting calories.  I went to the doc today and weighed 182 so I've lost 9 pounds in 6 weeks but she still put me on blood pressure medication.  Just a diuretic for now.  I have to go back in 2 weeks to see if it has helped.  My BP today was 150/94.  Actually, last Thursday morning I weighed 178 but that was before we went on vacation to visit friends and family in the Midwest.  That trip meant lots of pork, potatoes, Bratwurst, pies, German Potato Salad, beer, etc.  :(

I also have high cholesterol.  Gettin' old is hell and I have to say...I AM my Mother who had a couple of strokes, a heart attack, a pacemaker and recently (7/23/07) passed away from colorectal cancer after a 6 year battle.  Thus, my decision to eat a little better.

Friday weigh-ins work great for me.  I tend to agree with the theory of probably being a little less rigid with food on the weekends so Friday is a good day.

I might be the "oldie" of the group at 53.  :)
Hey I'm in too! I am 27, 5'6 and currently I weigh 186 (gained 10lbs when I quit smoking recently) I really want to get back to the 120's range I used to be. I am eating 1200 calories a day and no more than 35 grams of fat. I need a little motivation to get out and go to the gym I belong to-I haven't been in 3! months. This forum is a great idea maybe it will help if I post my progress with you guys.
kathypk- I am so sorry to hear about your mother.  As an RN (worked in an ICU for over 10yrs) I witnessed a lot of families losing their loved ones.  I hope you're getting through it OK.  Oddly enough after being around all of those sick people & with various medical conditions you would think that I wouldn't have let myself make such poor choices with my diet, but, sigh- anyway- Welcome to all that want to get healthy & lose weight in the process.  I'm looking forward to tomorrow's weight-in.
Thank you.   It has been a pretty difficult 2006/2007.  No surprise I ate my way to 200 pounds.

It was not just my Mom.  She received her "recurrent cancer" phone call on 4/10/06 and then on 4/12/06 my Dad was told that his breathing problem and reason for admission to the hospital was Mesothelioma.  Yes, he worked in a foundry and around asbestos for 40 years plus.  :(    My Dad is still hanging on but is getting weaker and having more trouble breathing.  He's doing OK and so am I.  At least we have had time to prepare....

Anyway, perhaps through proper diet and exercise I can help myself live and enjoy without all the problems (which could be quite hereditary) that my Mom had.

That's why I'm here and motivated.  :))
Okay.  I'm sure you all know, but consistency is the key.  Weigh-in every Friday, first thing in the morning, after you pee & probably naked (you don't have to shave your head or anything).  Upon the first time you would weigh it's called a baseline weight- meaning that every Friday thereafter will show any changes.  I know we can lose this weight....
I am so sorry to hear about you mother. I too lost my mother to cancer in 2005. Being 20, its tough, but it does serve as motivation. I believe her weight was a HUGE predisposition to the disease and I want to be here for my children whenever I decide to start a family. We ALL have to do this to insure a long, healthy, life where we do not put ourself in a situation where we endanger our longevity by eating things we do not need. Tomorrow's weight-in is the beginning of our journey to a new life where we can be healthy and promise oursleves our life and not give it away to our addiction to fat and sedentary lifestyles.

I'm in! Just went to the Dr yesterday, and I weigh more than I thought. I need to lose 62 lbs. I just had a tummy tuck 6 weeks ago, and I am ready to hit the gym again. I haven't been in almost 3 months. I just got the ok to go. I have already lost 100+ lbs. I have serious problems with my adbominal wall, it is covered in mesh, due to hernias, so I will never have a six pack or anything, but I can still lose weight, and the Dr will give me the stomach I want. We discussed my losing 60 lbs. I weigh 220 right now, and am 5'8". I worked out frequently until surgery, and like having muscle. I want to get that back and lose these last 60 lbs! My reward is going to be one more surgery, can't wait! I eat less than 1500 calories a day, but am trying to eat a little more. I don't drink anything during the week but water. I have beer on the weekends if I go out... I know it's more calories, but I like it. I need to eat healthier to speed up my metabolism, it's just hard because i work 2 fulltime jobs now. i am moving to AZ in June, and I have to save money. I want to lose the weight by January or Febuary at the latest. I have to have the one last surgery before I go... So... I'm in. Any tips would be appreciated, and I will share anything I learn!

Ok here goes, guess I am the first to weigh in today.  I am at 189 this Friday morning.  I can't wait until the whole 60 pounds are gone.  Good Luck to us all!
179 lbs. on the scale this am (that's a 4 lb loss).  I am very happy with that.  I'm eager to see what everyone else's weight is, next................... also, there is always time to join, anyone that wants to lose some weight (approx. 60 lbs.) can still join in & weigh this am & post it, everyone's welcome, the more support, the better (if it's more or less than 60 lbs. that's okay)

This morning I am at 211, (down 3 lbs from last Friday morning.)

Losing 60 lbs from this point would be perfect for me (151 may be high for some folks, but I'd be just thrilled with it!!!)

Friday, September 14, 2007- official weigh-in--- I thought this might be helpful to see it all in one place- the people in our group & their weights in one spot; I will continue to edit this & add more weights & maybe names if anyone else wants to join.  I am so proud of all of you, whether you've lost, possibly gained or even just maintained-- it's a process & it will take time, but we can do this together & I hope this will help us to track our progress easier.  If you guys want me to do it differently just let me know :)
Thanks for recapping.  I was walking my dog the other day and it was just too hot for him so I ended up carrying him back to the house.  It happens that he weighs just a bit over (23 pounds) what I have lost (19 pounds).

It was pretty tough carrying that extra weight!
