laurie-- try your best to eat or fill up on those healthy foods before you go to work (bring a baggie with you- baby carrots, sugar snap peas, grapes) anything that you like & have water with you.... I know you can do it... Just think of yourself & how you will look & feel when you are down to 125 lbs.- you will be too hottttt......

Im dying to lose at least 75 lbs between nah and my 24th bday in APril 2008, currently I find myself being lil too distressed about my weight. I really want to controll my eating habits. Not only that I reallyhirts me when I go into stores and see clothing that I can seem to fit in. This moring I walked into my closet and look at my clothing what I use to wear between year befroe last and last year (2005-2006). Currently im a size 18b ut 20 will fit comfortably nah. i was never in a size 20 I desperatley needs to do something bad its getting out of hand. I've decided to join Weight Watchers at the end of the month, but as of now im trying to eat just boiled foods and many salads as possible. Please can anyone helo me lose this weight that Ive gained. Right now im 238 need to lose at least 10% by endo of the month. Wat must I do?
Hey Diva I'm trying to lose as well. Weight watchers is good just have to stick to the points. You also have to be careful of salad dressings-they are usually diet killers and loaded with fat! I like to make bruschetta and use that instead. Boiled foods are sooooo boring unless you spice them up. Or boil chicken dice it up mix it with FF plain yogurt and some diced celery and you have a VERY low fat chicken salad you can have with your salad. God I'm getting hungry :-)

I have a goal of 1 to 1.5lbs per week.  Haven't really developed a strategy yet but I'm starting to get ideas from other posts.  Good luck to everyone!
I was in one of the challenges for August and liked what we did for the month with each week being a little different on goals.  I've tweeked it a bit for myself in September and use the food analysis on the site to monitor intake.  The daily goals are:

fats: 25-35% of calories, protein: 10-35% of calories, carbs: 45-65% of calories

Sodium: less than 1400, cholesterol: less than 200 and fiber: greater than 20.

Calories per day are 1200 to 1300 and my food consists of only real food, though I have had an occasional sweet....like carrot cake!  I enter everything in the calorie counter and also enter it by hand on a food log.  I try to balance things out daily by having 2 cups (or servings) of low-fat dairy, 3 fruits, 2.5 cups of vegetables, max of 6 oz of protein: lean meat, fish, chicken, eggs, nuts, starchy beans etc and at least one whole grain.  I obtained this "serving/cup" information from www.mypyramid.gov which provides info on how much of each of the food categories one should be eating.

My individual tweeking: I have significantly less grain products than recommended because I can be a real glutton when I eat rice, bread, noodles, etc.  I also eat lower than recommended on sodium and cholesterol because I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Some days I have difficulty getting in 1200 calories but I have recently solved that problem by having a bowl of oatmeal with chopped walnuts every morning.  Both are supposed to help reduce cholesterol.

My high this summer was 200.  On 8/3 I had a doctor's appointment and was 191.  I went to the doc yesterday and was 182.  I'm in no rush...slow and steady down to 140 which is a good weight for me at 53.

Hope this helps.

Weighed myself today, 216... I know it's water weight, but that's better than nothing! Good luck guys!

I'm later than everyone else to log my weight...sorry it was my son's birthday and everything has been crazy!

Anyways...261 today...down 7 lbs from last week!  I know I won't keep this pace up, but it feels good, even if it is extra water weight and glycogen.Wink

A discovery I made with my stepdaughter:  Mostly all places have kid portions!  We went to Panda Express and I almost lost my mind because I wanted to be healthy but they dish out MOUNTAINS of food per order.  I am trying to overcome the "if-it's-on-my-plate-I-have-to-finish-it" mindset and saw this as a challenge.  I heard her ask for a "kids meal" of one of the combos and the lightbulb went on.  So, as another tool on the road to weightloss, when I have to eat and am faced with these challenges- a kid's meal is less than half the size of a regular meal!  It  consisted of a small portion of chicken and noodles and a side serving of veggies.
I do the same thing if possible...kid sizes are perfect. Only at some places the menu is limited to chicken fingers, french fries, hotdogs or hamburgers. That sucks. What you had sounds good, to bad we don't have have Panda Express where I live.

I've been holding steady between 209-210 the last 2 weeks.  Some of that's because I was ill for a week and didn't exercise.  Now, I'm back to work (after 4 months of unemployment) and trying to incorporate exercise into daily routine.

I tried doing the 200 pounds+ challenge but after 2 1/2 weeks, I found the group to be too demanding without enough encouragement on slow, steady weight loss.  When someone gets praised for losing 7 pounds in one week, it's hard to feel good about yourself when you were up 1 pound.  When I told them I was quitting the challenge, and why, I got a lot of flack.  But I don't feel bad because I lost more weight before the challenge than I did while participating.  I found the environment in that particular thread to be too negative for me and they told me I wasn't ready to make the changes necessary to lose weight.

In the past 2 months I have:

  • given up caffeine
  • mostly drink just water and skim milk
  • added several vitamins to my daily routine
  • started riding a bike
  • started lifting 1 lb. hand weights while watching tv
  • started doing some stretching/toning (sit-ups, swiss ball workout video, etc.)
  • gone from consuming 3000-5000 calories/day (much of that in beverages) to consuming 1700-2000 calories/day
  • lost 14 pounds
  • stuck with a diet longer than I ever have in my life

I think I'm ready to lose weight.  How about you guys?  Just because I couldn't easily do 45 minutes of cardio in one day (I often do 20 and then another 20-30 of weight lifting and toning) and thought consuming 7 DIFFERENT types of fruits/veggies in one day was near impossible, I got flack.  I'm all for fruits and veggies but when you tell me that my V8 doesn't "count" even though it clearly says on the bottle "1 glass = 1 full serving of fruits and veggies" and the fresh fruit in my yogurt doesn't "count" then I start to feel crappy about myself.  I felt like 1/2 of the positive things I was doing weren't "good enough" for their challenge.  Am I a wuss or making excuses?  I don't think so and I spoke with my husband about it before deciding to give up.  He agreed that it wasn't a positive experience for me.

So, ladies, I'm asking you to support me... a lowly quitter who apparently isn't ready to lose weight.  I need your support because that challenge thread made me feel like CRAP about myself.  Everyone else said it was great and so wonderful and supportive.  I thought that since it was a 4 month challenge, we would ease into things but I got grief for not being willing to make drastic changes overnight.

Well, 14 pounds in 8 weeks is between 1.5 and 2 pounds/week, which is the healthy rate this site supports.  It sounds like you are ready to lose weight.  As a matter of fact, it sounds like you ARE losing weight.  I like this thread group because 60 pounds is just a general guideline, we have people here with varying goal numbers, but all with the same goal:  to look and feel better, to live longer, and maybe to look extra-hot at the company Christmas party this year!!
Oh boy, too much quality football this weekend. I went to a nice dinner on Friday, but I SAVED for those calories. However, we went out for drinks after and that killed everything. I was pretty good Saturday though- except for some snacking during the Ohio State game. GO BUCKS. Then I went to the Browns game on Sunday, which turned into a late night taco bell run... which turned into wings last night. Haha, I know, it's HORRIBLE! But I'm only up two pounds- I was expected a LOT more. I'm already working my butt off over it, eating fruit and drinking water. Congrats to everyone with their first week! See y'all Friday!! :-)
Mandi35, I'm a Steeler fan but have to say, that was one active Browns game on Sunday.  I don't know if I've ever seen a score that high.  Both teams must have left their defense in the locker room.  LOL.

Kthompson, hope you stick around.  We all need to go about losing in a fashion that works for each of us and I'm with you on doing things at a sensible rate.  It's more of creating a lifestyle than just trying to drop the weight.  We need to grasp onto something that works the rest of our lives not something for the short-term.

I know that before I lost my first 18 pounds or so (about 1/3 of what I need to lose overall) I felt it was just too hard on my 53 year old body that was out of shape and overweight to go out and start pounding the pavement but I made a mental commitment to start at a later time, and I did.  Just this week.  I've decided that my goal is to walk 300 minutes per week and I'm doing that in hour segments, 20 minute segments or whatever suits my fancy.  Of course I plan to ultimately pick up the pace to a continuous brisk mph for 45 minutes to an hour at a time but I'm not quite there yet.  I will be.

Congrats on your 14 pounds!

kathypk: No worries... I'm not leaving this site.  I'm just quitting that particular thread/challenge.  It's the 200+ challenge found in the Games & Challenges forum.  The group was making weight loss too hard and putting way too much pressure on people.  I got some slack from the folks on the thread for quitting but I'm much better getting support from a group like this who isn't holding me to any standard beyond just trying to reach my goal(s) and do so in a way that feels right and healthy for me.

Love and weight loss to all!

Cool.
