2nd week on this lifestyle change.  I started with needing to lose 60 lbs.- have lost ~3-4lbs the first week, feeling a lot better & doing routine exercise (a first in my life).  Anyone else in the same situation?  If anyone needs to lose ~ 60 lbs. & wants a thread to keep track of our progress, just add yourself on .....

Morning all.  I'm pleased to say I got out of bed this AM, jumped in the car, drove to the local outlet mall, put on my headset and walked outdoors a brisk 50 minutes.  I'm back at the hotel and will head to my Dad's (he's in a nursing home).  I think we will drive to the cemetary.  My Mom's momument has been set and my Dad would like/needs to see it.  It will be two months tomorrow than Mom passed away.

Boombabies, I figure it took me about 7 years to gain this extra 60 pounds so I'm going to be patient with losing it.  Not 7 years of patience, but patient!!
stellajo- If you like cereal like honey bunches of oats and smart start, you're likely to enjoy Kashi.  The GoLean Crunch now comes in 2 or 3 flavors including a honey and flax seed that's quite tasty.  I eat the regular kind because I can get a double box at Costco on the cheap.
I know its totally late, but on Friday I DID weigh myself and have not en tered it because I just moved into my new place and have not had internet til now. So I started at 283.8 and my weight was 284.6...:( a weight gain. I'm not making any excuses, I just did not put forth the effort to lose some weight. I apologize to you guys and promise this week will be better. Now that I am living on my own, I have more control over what I eat and not too much peer pressure to eat take-out. OK lets make it through the week!!!

Hi everyone - I am defo in!  Been trying to do it on my own with little success.  This site is great for keeping check on what I am eating and it is scary when you add it all together, no wonder I am 60 lbs over weight (at least).  I am the heaviest I have EVER been now and got to do something quickly.  Good luck everyone!!

Kathypk I lost my mum and my sister last year.  Mum was 87 so had a good life even though it was tough at the end and my sister who I was extremely close to died suddenly last September at 64 after being diagnosed with Bone Cancer.  It has just occurred to me that my weight has shot up in the last year and I have never even given it a thought that it might be due to the fact that I lost the two people who are the closest to me (apart from my husband).  I guess I have been comfort eating without even knowing it.

Hi just joined so really motivated to lose this week.  Will weigh in this Friday but starting weight is 203 lbs would love to lose 60 lbs or more to get down to 143.  This is a great idea - hope it works for good this time!

Is it too late for me to join?  I've been doing Calorie Count since January and dropped 45 pounds so far.  However, in the past month or two, I have been wavering back and forth between losing and gaining 4 pounds.  I've gotten lazy with keeping my journal entries and watching the calories.  The other forum I was in became a bit boring and I found this one this morning and I am very interested in everyone's writings.  I still need to lose 75 pounds (which would be the "ideal" weight), but am really shooting for 60 more pounds which would be the most practical.  What I am confused about is that people at work and my family tell me I really don't need to lose any more weight because I look great now.  I disagree. I am a fan of small weight loss goals and need to get back on track.  I too am a big fan of Kashi products especially the flax cereal. I munch on that when I get the munchies or put it on top of toast with peanut butter, sprinkle in yogurt. There are lots of Kashi products out there. I would be grateful if you can add me into your group.  Today's weight is 210.  Mini goal for me is 200 by end of October.  Then 10 pounds every other month (maybe 6-8 pounds).  I need to get back my motivation before I start going the other way.

Welcome billie and sisco!  Thanks to boombabies for starting this thread, and no I don't think it is "too late" to "join" - this is not a contest or challenge thread (beyond challenging ourselves to be healthier!)

Glad to have you with us - the more people we have, the more support we have!!

Happy Monday everyone......My motto is the more the merrier so welcome to our group Billie and Sisco!
Oh geeze, I gained a pound this weekend. Sheeeesh. At least it wasn't TWO like last weekend. Good thing I burned 500 calories on the elliptical Saturday and went hiking Sunday... who KNOWS what the scale would've looked like. But what really matters is what it reads on Friday. Must've been that steak and potatoes I had for supper yesterday- and all the beer and eggs I have Saturday! Weekends are so difficult for me :-) I feel motivated now, and it's 3:00pm and I've already had 96 ounces of water!!! I'm supposed to have 97 (half of my body weight). I'm worried because I'm not hungry, though. I had a lean pocket at about 10:30-11 and that's all I've had today. Normally I have eaten half of my daily allowance by now. No worries though, I'm sure the 'ol tummy will start growling shortly. If not- it will DEFINITELY be ready for food after I "scooter" (that's what my boyfriend calls my elliptical) tonight!

Everyone have a good weekend?
Hi all. I'm glad to see this thread so active.  Seems there are a bunch of us in the same boat.

Mandi: I had a good weekend. It was one of those emotional kind of weekends...spendng time with my Dad... Mom recently deceased...but it has all been quality time.  I live in NC but PA is where I need and want to be right now.   Overall regarding my "health program", this time has not been bad.  I have this little chart that I am filling out on a daily basis (regarding calories, fats, proteins, carbs, sodium, cholesterol, fiber, walking).  Though one day might be high or low in one category or another, it seems the weekly snapshot looks pretty good on average.  :)

Hi Billie: welcome to the group.  It must be really difficult to have lost both your Mom and sister.  My heart really goes out to you.  I can't imagine.  Well, yes I can perhaps.  I may have mentioned on a previous post that my Dad also has terminal cancer. He is hanging on right now.   On a lighter note...I'm glad I'm not the Group Elder.  You have been bestowed that honor.  :))

Sisco:  no, no, no.  Don't go "the other way"!!!  Stick with us.  I figure it took me 6 or 7 years to add this 60 pounds of excess adipose so I am "ok" with it taking several months to get rid of it.  Not 6 years, but several months.  It's all about overall health.  I didn't check your profile before typing but excess weight and sedentary lifestyle brings about so many more health problems...high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.  I've dropped 19 pounds and am so happy to be able to once again be able to "cross my legs"!!!

OK.  I'll stop for now.
Okie dokie... got back to 193 *whew* That was a lot easier than last week! :-)

Kathy: I am sorry to hear about your loss. It's wonderful that you have your father around so you can lean on each other. I hope things continue to look up for the both of you. As for your diet- keey on truckin' girlie! Sounds like you are doing all the right things. I'm trying, but the weekends always set me back. But I'm still losing, and that's alllll that matters! :-)

Hello to all the newbies & of course to all others.  I hope everyone is well.  Unfortunately I still feel like sh#t.  I'll be lucky if at Fridays weigh-in that I have stayed the same weight (I think I'm retaining water- TTOM unexpectately- it's like a cruel joke).  Anyway, it looks like everyone is doing well & I can't wait to see how everyone has done this Friday-- good luck to all :-)

:: Hugs ::
Welcome Brittany!

You have came to a wonderful place... no pressure and lots of motivation... best of luck to ya :-)
That sounds perfect I'm at 175 now and a 60 lost would be amazing.  I'm in!
Good morning all.  I'm back from PA.  Came home Tuesday and crashed on Wednesday.  That is typical for me.  The group sure is growing!!  That's a good thing.  I'm no so sure I want to get on the scale tomorrow but what will be, will be.

Boombabies, I hope you're feeling better today.
Welcome back kathypk- thanks, I am slowly starting to feel better.  I also am apprehensive about jumping on the scale tomorrow-- I have a feeling I haven't lost any- but, oh well, it will be what it will be- like you said.  See you all in the am :)
I just want to do the weigh in today... not tomorrow!! Grrrr, I just KNOW something will happen! :-) Naw, as long as I exercise tonight, drink my water... I should be okay. See y'all in the morning!
