12 lbs lost

Quote  |  Reply
As of today, I have lost 12 lbs. I have 110 lbs to go. I was hoping to notice a change in how my clothes fit, but so far I can't. I hate to get discouraged but it seems like I have a long hard road ahead of me. I know. I didn't put it on overnight and I cant take it off overnight.I have tried to diet many times before and I have either failed or I have lost weight, but then I gain it back plus more. I have changed my eating habits and taken up walking at least 4 times a week. I usually walk 2-4 miles each time. It's tough, but I do it. My husband and children can eat whatever they want and not gain a pound. It is really difficult to cook for them and fix myself something else. They love all the foods that I have not allowed myself to eat. I keep my calorie intake below 1500 calories a day. I used to drink enough sodas a day to equal that. I have weaned myself off of sodas and now I drink at least 6 (16 oz) bottles of water a day and maybe 1 diet soda for a treat. I have cut out all fried foods and limit myself to red meat once a week. I have a foot injury that prevents me from being able to do a lot of exercise. I was told that a trampoline was a good form of exercise, but I cannot do it. Does anyone have any ideas of something that I can do without having to go to a gym? It's not that I have a problem going to a gym, actually I would love to. I just dont have the extra money to spend.

Congrats on the 12 lbs.!

Is swimming an option for you? I haven't tried it for exercise yet, but am waiting for it to get a little hotter so I can do it. (At night of course when no one's looking haha)
How about Pilates?  You can do videos at home and since it's totally non-impact you can take care of that ankle.  I have 10 Minute Solutions - Pilates and, although I don't do it often, when I do - I sure feel it!

I have a swimming pool, but its not ready to get into yet. The water is too cold. It is a shame. I have had a pool for 3 years and have only gotten in it 2 times. Both times I had shorts on. I have guests all the time that use it, but I am terrified of someone seeing me in a swimsuit or worse think that I have to wear shorts because I am too big for a swimsuit. Night time is an option though.
Oh weezy... believe me, I haven't been in a bathing suit since I was about 8 or 9... I've never even worn a bikini... Since the chubbiness started I've been on the whole shirt and shorts thing.... :)

HI Weezy,

I think you should not give a darn what anyone thinks and get into your own pool....or maybe have a time that is yours alone and don't allow guests at that time......

I know how you feel. I refused to go to a public pool for the last 8 years. Last summer was so hot and I was having some problems with anxiety. I found that swimming in the lake was the only thing that soothed me. Of course, the very first time I went to the lake I ran into this one guy I thought was cute, and that was the end of that, what with my cellulite and all, but, I figure it's my body, and I have a right to enjoy life too!So I am going swimming in the evenings again this year, but hopefully I'll be a little smaller!
The public library should have a lot of different types of exercise videos or dvds.  That way you can use a variety without blasting your budget.

Thanks for all of your support. It really helps talking with people that understand where I am coming from. I am going to add getting into the pool this year to my list of goals. I may start out getting in there at night, but hopefully by next summer I will be in there with everyone else.
First of all congratulations on losing the 12lbs I am sure that the numbers will increase and that you will soon start to notice a change in your clothes.
The pool thing is a great idea because even if you're not doing laps you will be moving to stay afloat and that my dear is low resistance training. It takes a lot of muscles to tread water just ask anyone who has been lost at sea they are physically exhausted from treading water as it is constant motion against the force of the water. I am not suggesting anything that drastic but just an hour a day in the pool will tone the muscles especially the butt and thighs. Oh and the arms should benefit as well and the boobs should lift.
I'm in, if I haven't convinced you I have certainly convinced myself, there is a pool at the gym 1.5 klms walk from my house.

Edit:  Whoa!!! I just looked it up and one hour of treading water  is 309cals x 7 = 2163 cals per week.  How easy is that, oh happy day

Wow!!! 2163 calories. That's great. Thanks for the info. I will for sure be in the pool when it gets warmer.

I weighed today and I have lost 14 lbs.
Hi, I cook only one meal.  Those who watch their wt. eat less and those who don't need to diet can have more.  Everyone needs to eat healthy.  Why make more work for yourself?

Love, Karen
