I weigh 245 and would like to lose aprx. 50 lbs by June. I'm going on a trip and want to do a lot of hiking. I just ordered Turbo Jam and I just bought an Elliptical. I am also following the WW diet routine. I'm consuming around 1200-1500 calories a day. If I work do the 45 minute cardio work out with some strength training and 30 min of my elliptical everyday do you think my 50lb goal is realistic? I would rather work out more than to cut my calories.
50 pounds in 2 1/2 months is almost impossible, IMO, unless you are really overweight and , even then, it probably would not be healthy but that is JMO. I could be wrong and will bow to those who are more informed about these matters but I don't think it would be possible at your weight to drop 50 pounds in that short of a time period and do it in a healthy manner. You could drop half of that probably and still look and feel great for your vacation. Good luck!
I honestly do not think it is realistic or healthy to loose 50 lbs in 2.5 months. I am afraid that you setting a goal that high will discourage you when you do not see the results you want. Maybe start with a smaller goal and if you loose more then that is awesome!
On a different note... Your workout plan sounds great! Combining Cardio with your elliptical is fantastic! I love my elliptical and use it every day :D I am curious if you typically workout... If you are not used to working out it might be hard for you to build up your endurance to handle the workout plan that you have put into place. Just don't get discouraged and stick to it. If you can only do 15 minutes on your elliptical that is still good but push yourself the next day to do more minutes.
Since you do not want to really cut your calories I suggest you eat smart and watch the calories that you put into your body. I am on a 1200 calorie a day diet and with recipes from this site, fruits and vegetables I find it hard to consume the calories I need but I am still full and eat a snack every 3 hours!
Good Luck and I hope you have an awesome vacation!
Thank you for your interest in my routine Lorriec! I actually just starting going to a gym regularly in November. From November to the end of January I lost about 25 lbs. It was extremely hard at first! I couldn't last but 3 minutes on the elliptical at the gym. But eventually I worked my way up to 30min. Then one day, my 30 min were over and I wasn't tired. So I went another 30 min. So the whole month of January I was doing roughly 60-70 min. with a 5 min break between the two 30min workouts. I watched what I ate, kept track of calories, cut down on sweets and soda.
In February I got laid off from my job and was forced to move to take another job and can't afford the gym anymore. So I've had the whole month of February and March"off" from the gym. I couldn't take it anymore and saw an enormous amount of suggestions for Turbo Jam work out DVD's. I also bought a mini elliptical. There aren't any handlebars or anything. It's hard (I'm not sure if it's because I haven't been to the gym in 2months or because I'm used to holding on to something).
So I'm sort of new to this work out thing but not really :) I'm am brand new to WW though. This is the first time I have actually lost weight. Before November I did nothing but get bigger!
Thanks for listening any other advice will be much appreciated!
you'd have to lose 5 pounds a week for that- so nah, i don't think you should pressure yourself that much. but i do think you could lose something like 5 the first week, and 2-3 fr the remainder of those weeks. still, setting that goal would be a pretty high one.
happy trails!
No, that is not at all realistic. I was seriously ill from end of May 2007 until End of February 2008 - couldn't keep anything down and was eating mainly low sodium broth and ensure and I did not lose 50 pounds. Up to this point (I have finally found a doc who can help) I have lost 48 pounds, but it was not healthy at all. I was VERY sick and miserable. You do not want to go that way. Take your time and do it right. If you even could find a way to meet that goal (which I still think is impossible) my guess is you would feel so bad, you wouldn't be able to go on your trip. Be healthy with your goals and accept that it will take time.
Let's see... April - June is 2 months.
Okay, I did cross country from September - November (3 months), and lost almost 30 pounds (to the point of being underweight).
I was in a healthy weight range to begin with, but once I started running (had never run competitively before. in fact, I'm a softball player, so the most distance running I'd done was a mile...tops), I also adopted other behaviors. For instance, many days we'd run between 7 - 20 miles, so at lunch I would be extremely careful about what I ate because I knew that I'd be carrying it with me for the run. So, due to its lactic acid content I cut out dairy entirely (which, as a vegan, I actually do now anyway), which contributed greatly to weight loss.
So to the point... while I was not trying to lose weight (in fact, my teachers thought something was wrong, and kept scheduling one-on-ones to make sure I was being healthy since that was a HUGE amount of weight to loss for someone my height (5'2")), I ended up doing it by participating in SOMETHING I LOVED, and for which I was willing to give up things like ice cream, dairy, cheese, etc.
Courtneyes, my advice: find something you love doing; an activity for which you are willing to give up certain vices simply to excel. If you partipate in something you love, you'll do it more, look forward to it, and try harder while doing it. Often, I would come home from our runs, and hurry through my homework so I could run another few miles on the treadmill at midnight.
FIND AN ACTIVITY YOU LOVE, and ENJOY LIFE. The rest will find its place.
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
