Hi trainmanup - Excellent result. I'm aiming to lose 70 in about 35 weeks or so. Your journey appears very similar to what I am about to go through.
I'd be interested in what helped and motivated you to get to the point in 7 months. What was 'your something' that you wanted to look good for?
Hey guys, sorry for not replying quicker.
It was pretty easy once I over the fact that it's not a diet I was on, I stuck to the same foods pretty much, which consisted of small snacks, every morning I eat my bowl of Total, skim milk, and every 2-3 hours I'm eating snacks like string cheese, with Wasabi and Soy Sauce Almonds, or whole wheat Ritz crackers with a little colby jack snack cheese broken into 6th's (with 6 crackers). Usually I'll have one larger meal per day, which lately has been like a small can of Bush's baked beans (mmm Fiber), with crackers and cheese, sometimes Chili, and sometimes ham turkey bacon with mustard 6in sandwiches on wheat bread from our local Ralphs(mmm protein lol). I also drink about a gallon and a half of water per day.
I am somewhat fortunate to NOT get sick of eating the same foods over and over, so it's really easy to just stock up on the same stuff when I go to the store, unlike a lot of people who get sick of it, and go to the store tempted to buy other crap.
Excersice during the first 4 months started as walking up this local mountain by my house, it's 1.5 miles up the steep side, and just over 2 miles on the not so steep side, and I was walking at a good pace up the steep side every day, then I bought a cheap mountain bike from Target, and started riding it up the non steep side about every day/other day. Then for about 1-2 months around there, I was jogging for 25 minutes just around my neighborhood, every other day but that took it's toll on my hip, so I stopped jogging, and went back to biking. For the last 15 pounds or so, I was taking my time, no real hardcore workouts of any kind, maybe once or twice a week I'll walk up the mountain with my mom, take my nephews out to the skate park and brush up on ye old skateboarding tricks. Oh and pushups every day before bed lol, not sure if that helped anything, but it makes me feel good doing as many as I can before almost fall on my face.
If I have any advice to give, it's that the first 2 weeks are the hardest, your body needs to develope it's routine, and adjust, and want to become active, after a while, your body tells you when it's time to go excersize, (and you should listen). Also, reduce meal sizes, snack every 2-3 hours to keep the metabolism going. Don't tell yourself that you're on a diet, it's just a lifestyle change, because honsetly who wants to be on a "diet" for 50+ years.. Just live right. And probably the most important thing for me was wanting to lose this weight for myself and all the people around me, it motivates me when I know others will acknowledge my accomplishment. That's about it, good luck to everyone, and pre-congrats on looking/feeling great again.
Had to edit it throw in one more important thing, I personally stopped drinking alchohol while doing this, since I used to drink and then eat a bunch. Also when going out to eat, try to stay away from those huge portions, I would always snack before, then have a chicken seaser salad, or some kind of chicken breast meal, but never a whole big meal with sides and stuff. And NO FAST FOOD lol this **** horrible, they'll find any way to cram sugar and just unhealthy crap in every bite.
