200lbs PLUS and Over 35 Years of Age?
Hello All,
I'm looking for folks who, like me, have tried everything, for many years, and share my experience of gaining a little more, each time a diet failed.I don't know how close we can all become on the internet, but I think it would be pretty fantastic if we could build a family among us as strong as any real family, so we can give to one another, maybe keep each other motivated, and see if it helps us do for ourselves what we have never done before-achieve our goal weight, and stay there!
I'm not big about the age thing, I picked 35 as a rough number, as I think I relate more to people who are less likely to have grown up on hip hop and rap, and consider this noise to be music.
I added a post to the 200 plus thread, and noticed it was getting quite long.
Just to recap from that post, I'm 41 years of age, 5'10-1/2, and 266lbs.
I am most definitely not social, at all, and posting and interacting with anybody on the internet is not something I have ever done.
I joined this site a couple of weeks ago at 287lbs, went down to 264, and just gained back to 266lbs
Here is a start to what I hope is going to be a kick-!%& thread....
What are we are doing differently this time to ensure that we are successful?
I'm having a bear of a time with motivation, as well, and I'd love to hear ideas on that, as well.
I'm just about SICK of having my size stop me from having the life I want. How about you?
Thanks, All
Looking forward to hearing from all of your from the other thread, too.
Jen
Hi Jen!
I'm holding at 43 (b'day this Friday! lol) and I'm 5'4" and 260 lbs. My short goal is to be at 190 by 10/15/08 - my 25th wedding anniversary! According to CC I should acheive this goal by sticking to the daily calories.
I too am finding it hard to get motivated as far as exercise goes. I really want this for me and my husband! I have a Gazelle and we have remolded and changed things around the house and I have no where to put it. We have a spare room that has become a storage room that I'm working on now to make it into MY space for computer, tv, and workout. Hopefully I can get this done and start using the Gazelle.
Hello!
Thanks for the reply! I think my thread got lost in the shuffle. I did get a few replies on the 200lb thread already created.
It's nice to meet you, and you are not going to believe this..
My best friend was cleaning out her garage yesterday, and she asked me if I wanted the exercise machine that was hidden behind a bunch of other stuff.
I told her that I would, and asked her what it was exactly, and she said it was the Tony Little machine! I looked it up, and it is a Gazelle!
So here is what I say about the space situation, which I totally understand, and you'll see why. I was fired around Christmas, and an unfortunate financial situation required me to move my mom and I into what I'm calling a "remotely constructed movable housing unit".
Yes, I am in a single wide mobile home...from 1,400 square feet to 766 square feet..
Leaving aside the stigma, this little place is very small for the two of us.
We are in a tiny park with 15 other mobile homes, and we have this great backyard with pretty little gardens, and big decks for the summer, so that part is great. It is also strangely situated in a residential neighborhood with very nice houses all around, so it is very safe.
I have decided that I am going to put this piece of equipment right in the living room ,darn it. I'm very fat, but I have been single for the last 3 years, and after deciding I was tired of living my life for a man, I took in my 78 year old mother, who I adore, and still accomadate someone else over myself.
So I am putting it in the living room. I am far too fat, and for once, just once, in my life, I want to get down to a weight that lets me leave the house without feeling uncomfortable.
Happy Birthday in advance!!! How exciting!
I have the tiniest bedroom you have ever seen in your life, and I'm going to replace my queen size bed for a smaller size, so I, too can have a space of my own. I only use a little bit of the bed, anyway. I never have gotten used to sleeping alone.
25th anniversary is also very exciting! Is your husband supportive? Will he be able to accept the new and slender woman you are going to become?
I must confess I am struggling with motivation. It seems the last few times I have attempted to change, I last a very, very short time. I wonder what we do to stay on track, and keep our eyes on the goal? I really want this, as I bet you do, too.
I can't figure out what the roadblock is for me. I don't mind working hard. I can be disciplined in other areas of my life. Weird.
If I don't talk to you before your birthday, I hope it is a really fun day for you!!
Let me know your first name next letter..
Best to you!!
Jen

Happy Birthday! ![]()
=^..^= MOLLY
Molly/Jen......thanks for the "happy b'day"! It means a lot!
Jen.....congrats on the the Gazelle. I really love mine when I used it before. It was sooo much easier than a treadmill. I felt really clumsy on the treadmill. Sorry to hear about the job.....really a bad thing to happen and the timing was terrible!
At least you feel safe where you are at. Things will get better I know it will. As you work towards you weight goal your confidence will increase as well. This can only make you a stonger person and you will shine!
My husband is great! But I don't usually talk to him anymore about dieting, working out etc because I feel he's thinking "blaa, blaa, blaa" since I've been trying for most of our married life and failed. I just want to do it and him notice, which he will and then he'll get motivated to loose a few as well.
I'm the same way with motivation.......I'm a strong person and can usually acheive anything I put my mind to EXCEPT losing weight. I don't understand it either but I'm making it a challenge within to accomplish this hurdle once and for all!
Keep your head up and remember we ARE a beautiful people inside and out!

Wow, Gazelle stories! Here's mine (I feel okay to post here, I'm still over 200 lbs and I'll be 39 in April.)
I've recently moved to Texas, but at my last move in Louisiana, when I got ready to move into the house, the prior tenants had left behind their Gazelle. One of the foot planks was hanging loose, but only because the tension cord had come off it. I put it back on ... works just fine. I don't know if it originally had any kind of monitor or display ... if so, those no longer work, but other than that, it is fully functional and best of all ... FREE!!
Jen, I have to tell you, you have come to the right place for friendship, motivation, support, and all those other things to help you stay on track. I've been overweight my entire adult life, and I've tried lots of things, some have worked a bit, some have not, but this place is awesome, and people are so ready with helpful advice or even just an ear for a rant!
I think you'll find success here .... I believe you can do it!!!
Thanks Teresa, for the encouragement!
I know how that goes with the husband who is just a little worn out with the diets..
It is definitely going to be more fun to just have him notice the difference!
Wow, Stella (Stella Jo?)! You are just an inch away from being under 200lbs, though, aren't you! That is fantastic! Keep going!
I'd never thought about a Gazelle, either, but the price of "free" has also made me a sudden enthusiast. I should have the darn thing in my living room this weekend, so we'll see how it goes.
My knees have just about gotten tired of my vastness, so I really like what appears to be a low impact kind of machine.
I had a pretty good day as far as my food, went. Lots of vegetables, and enough protein, I think.
I don't know about you girls, but my big food issue is eating enough food, often enough. Since I've been given an unexpected vacation, I sleep pretty late, probably because I'm kind of blue, and I will not eat for several hours when I wake up. I then will tend to eat in the evening, and even late into the night.
So a big thing for me is to wake up, and eat some oatmeal pretty quickly.
Trying to eat correctly, for me, requires an absurd amount of focus. I started this thing a couple of weeks ago, and it feels like months and months.
Well, it is nice to hear from all of you, and I hope you have a great night.
Most Warmly,
Jen
I want to join, Im 56 (dont like hip hop or rap) Im today at 210 but was 265 at my highest. Ive lost 100# several times in my life, but getting to a point in my life that I cant afford to keep doing that. THe last time I lost 100# , I went on a 15 year no diet plan. That why im trying to change my life not just diet. I live in a remote part of Oregon. 50 miles to the bank and 90 miles to the doctor or hospital. Our town has about 150 people, although some people live 20 or 30 miles away use our town address. Fast food is not a problem as the closet one is 50 miles away. But just plain overeating and snacking are. Fresh Fruit and vegs are a problem. I shop once a month for groceries. A lot of the time Hubby does it, I hate spending the day in town and 4 hours driving in the car. It s been cold here since before Christmas, was 7 degress last night. So walking ouside is a little cold. I did try riding my horse 2 days ago, but so much ice and snow it wasnt much fun. I cant wait till it gets warmer. Then exercise is not such a problem. Anyway I need all the help I can get to stick with this. Leanna
ps: Im also trying to quit smoking after 40 years. My husband would rather see me quit smoking than lose weight. Ive gone from 1 1/2 or 2 packs a day down to 1/2 pack a day so far.
Welcome Horsieleanna!
I'm jealous on the horseback riding! I love horses. My husband doesn't so we now have 4-wheelers which I love as well......can't get enough riding for me. I'm addicted! lol
Jen....I too am not a morning time eater! I use to not eat until lunch time but I've read in too many places that it's the worst thing a person can do. After reading what a nutritionist had to say (look under the "weight loss" forum and click the first one......"sharing info from my nutritionist") Really made me more motivated to eat first thing in the am. It's still a challenge but I'm sticking to it.
Talk to ya soon!

Teresa, that is too funny..
I printed out that particular post last night because I thought it was great!
I know, I know, we just have to eat breakfast, darn it. There is just way too much evidence out there on he side of the breakfast-eaters, and not too many credible-sounding studies on our non-breakfast-eating side.
Leanna, welcome! I've spent a good part of my adult life in numerous towns in Oregon, where are you living?
It's great to have you here.
It's way too boring a story, but after I left the bad man that I ended going back to 3 years ago for a few months, and then leaving again, I moved to the gorgeous Clearwater Island, FL, with my brother, jumped on Atkins, and lost 75lbs. It was disaster after that. I gained a little back, dieted, lost some, gained back more, dieted, lost more, gained back even more. Beyond scary.
So I know what you mean.
I am also a smoker, but I just don't think I can bare trying to lose weight, and quit smoking at the same time.
It sounds like we all need to make this the time for us to really change our lives, instead of justing changing for the duration of a diet, and then going back to the same old eating.
Teresa, did you find the break down of what a 1500 calorie a day diet looked like as cool as I did? I mean, it is obvious, if one thinks about it, but I hadn't really. I loved that article, and printed it out for my stubborn best friend who won't join this site, yet.
I'm still going to keep my eye out for the Harvard, or Princeton, or Oxford, 85 year study of one million people called, "Weight loss efforts and general health indisputably compromised by the eating of breakfast"...I think we'll see that released right after the, "Dieters lose 98% more body fat when potato chips and cake are staple of eating plan".
Best All!![]()
Jen
It sounds like y'all are doing marvelously ... yay! ![]()
Eating breakfast is like turning on your metabolism.... just a good idea. If you're not into big breakfast, grab something simple and healthy... even if it's the same thing every day! (Mine is .... I am currently in love with my breakfast!)
=^..^= MOLLY
Good morning everyone!
Well today is my birthday and I turned 44.....thought I would be bumbed out but......I weighed in this morning and I'm down 3 LBS!!!!! I was thrilled. Couldn't have gotten a better gift!
I starting to really believe that I can do this! It's really been easier than I thought. Now if I can get the exercise mixed in I really be on the right path.
When are you guys weighing in?
Jen.....I did find the whole article interesting.....especially the eating like a king in the am and then a prince and so on!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
You speak the truth, Molly.
Molly, what do you currently eat in the morning?
Happy Birthday Teresa!!!
3lbs is fabulous! Wow!! Nice Job!
I've decided to weigh every Wednesday morning from now on. I was doing that obsessive weighing thing, and I've really got to reign it in.
Exercise. Yes. I must confess circumstances combined with a lack of discipline has also left me not really dig into that, yet, either.
I think there's no question that we really have to, though.
I started a thread about my experience last week-Help I'm going in reverse-under weight loss, which was intended to be somewhat tongue in cheek, but also holds some truth.
I went up to 268lbs, from my initial loss down to 264lbs, which naturally freaked me out, so I'm not looking forward to next Wednesday.
I very much enjoyed the part about eating more, earlier, too, Teresa.
I don't think I can eat a huge breakfast, but I'm tempted to make lunch quite large, and make dinner very modest. I wonder if eating oatmeal for dinner would be too strange?
If one simply follows one's common sense, eating more, earlier, when one requires more calories for energy to utilize throughout the day, and then reducing calorie intake as activity drops, seems to make sense.
The trouble, or course, ends up being our lack of full knowledge of all the variables of this sort of thing. Sometimes what seems logical, really isn't when one learns more about the subject.
Best to all of you,
Jen
Hey......where did everyone go??????????
Hope everyone is doing well and staying on course. I've been a little off my target for the past two days by about 300 calories. Back on track today. Hope this doesn't mess me up for Friday weigh in. Does anyone know?
I am 58 and need to lose 175 pounds. I sure would like to find a form where I can fit in, make friends and support the shedding of pounds.
Sandie
Welcome Sandie!
I have approx 130 #'s to go! This is a great group......just not sure what happened to everyone. Haven't heard from anyone since the 19th. We take it one day/week at a time and will be there for you.
Again....welcome!
Well -- I'm a new 47, 5'8" (or close), and I started at CC at 210, although my highest was up around 221. I was/ampretty athletic, so I always suffered from what I call "anti-anorexia" (no offense to the true ED-sufferers) -- where I would look in the mirror and think that I didn't really look that bad -- until I saw a picture of myself or tried to buy clothes.
I joined CC after several WW (and every other quick fix diet out there EXCEPT Atkins (I like bacon too much -- I would get very fat on his diet)) attempts. I like WW, I think it can be effective -- it was just not the program for me. However, WW and CC can peacefully co-exist, the same for many other programs (South Beach, Dr Oz, etc)
I have been very successful here at CC -- I still eat too much food, but now it's too much spinach, or broccoli, or cauliflower, etc -- instead of too much steak and chocolate cake.
I eat breakfast everyday -- usually about 250-300 cals, I eat a lot of fish, a lot of chicken/turkey, I still eat steak occasionally, I still eat chocolate (c'mon -- why live if you have to give up chocolate) daily. I don't restrict myself from anything (I should note--unlike many, I do not have any health concerns that affect my eating patterns/choices), because when I do, I end up binging on that item. I try to eat 1400-1800 calories per day -- and I will move heaven and earth to stop myself from having a deficit greater than 1000 (which means late night cereal for me sometimes.
I eat a lot of fiber-rific foods, and average about 55+ grams per day. I drink tons of water (and when I don't the scale shows), at least 128 oz per day.
I taught myself how to recover from a binge -- I just shake it off, I put the calories in my log, I might journal it so that I can see when/how it happened, and I hop right back up on the CC bandwagon again. I work on the AA theory -- one day at a time, I can survive anything for one day.
I work out at least 3x week for about 75mins -- generally swimming is my main exercise (training more than just swimming), other than that I'm not real active (for me this is simple laziness and a CC addiction).
Like, I said -- I've been very successful since August -- I am down to a healthy BMI, my weight is much closer to where I want it to be, my body is slowly beginning to re-shape to where it is supposed to be. It is possible -- I promise. I intend to make this my forever way of living instead of my "until I reach a size 2" way of living.
Good luck to all.
Hi all.....
Weighed in today and really bummed......didn't loose anything! But didn't gain either. Really got to get the room cleaned out and get my Gazelle up and running.....really got to quit talking about and do it! GOING to start tonight!
As you know, my official weigh-in days are on Saturdays or Sundays ... and this week I selected Saturday and that's the official weight that I record for me. Though my weight loss to date in January has been slower than in previous months, it's still remaining reasonably steady and at a healthy pace ... which will be a nice prelude for February (which has been designated a "Maintenance Month") since I will be out of town for more than 14 days. (Don't worry, I still plan to do my very best to stay on track while out of town!) Anyway ... this week's results show a loss ... and a loss ALWAYS equals a good week, right?
And on a related note, I achieved my exercise goals for every week in January (90 minutes of cardio per week), so starting Monday that increases to 120 minutes of cardio per week for February! (I also work with some weights, too.)
STARTING WEIGHT: 369
CURRENT WEIGHT: 290.8
WEIGHT LOST THIS WEEK: 2.2 pounds
WEIGHT LOST TO DATE: 78.2 pounds
PERCENTAGE OF WEIGHT LOST (of starting weight): 21.1%
WEEKS OF DIETING: 23 weeks
SPECIAL COMMENTS: Started thyroid medication today for under-active thyroid.
NEXT GOAL: 289 = 80 pounds lost
