Weight Loss

I know that the recomended loss is 1-2 lbs. per week, and that anything more than that is not healthy. But here me out. I only want to lose 3 lbs and I only want to do it once. I have weigh-in for my ROTC program next thursday. I have 3 lbs to go and we are talking about my school tution on the line. I think that just once it would be okay to aim for 3 instead of 1-2 but I wanted to get other people's thoughts as well as suggestions as to how. I usually stick to 200 cals either side of a 500 deficiet. Should I cut my intake or up my excercise?
EDIT: Typing errors- changed 55 to 500

The 1 to 1.5 lb per week is just an average, not exact.
The closer you are to a goal weight (aka healthy weight) the harder it is to lose weight. I was on a 1.8 lb per week average at first, but the last few months have been 0.7 or so.
So if you are only lookling to lose 3 lbs, then you are probably close to a goal weight. So this will be hard to do.
If you are aiming for quick weight reduction for an event (like fighters do when they weight in before a fight), talk to a trainer. You can setup some sessions in hot suits (that make you sweat) so you come just under the radar and get the tuition.
These methods need to be approuved and followed up by professionals. They are not recommended for a healthy weight loss plan, but your case seems different. Note that very quick weight loss, such as this, can be very bad for your health. 3 lbs should be ok, but anything more or doing it for longer could VERY dangerous

I'm sorry I wasn't very clear, was I?
I'm not looking to loose only 3 lbs. total. I meant that I only want to loose 3lbs in the next week, so nothing super crazy. I'm 148 today and the top of my weight range is 145. If I don't make weight I'll get taped and I know I'll fail that because I have a small frame.
I've been here for awhile and I'm doing things the healthy way. I'm just really close and go to an expensive private school. I'll go back to doing things right, I promiss. I would never want to compromise my health by it long term.

Well, I don't condone it, however, you might be able to lose 1lb of fat, and sweat out the other 2lbs in water. That's pretty much the only way in such a short amount of time.
I know i'm in a bad situation and I'm so mad at myself for letting it get this far. Also I apprecate that you said you don't condone it because you don't want to give me or anyone else reading this the wrong impression. Thanks for the suggestions and for not getting on my case thinking that I'm some crazy crash dieter, becuase that's NOT what I'm here for. If you read my other posts you'll see that I am here to be healthy, I just don't have $24,000 either.
As you can see I feell guilty/stupid for making this post : )
I understand the pressure for needing to make it into a weight "class". Esspecially when it's for your future and suffering for 1 week out of your entire life is worth it right now. Good luck, I hope you can make the cut. =)
Thanks nocturne!
First off, don't feel stupid for making the post. Secondly, it is possible. Like bigtwinky said, that number is an average of what you should lose. However, I have had weeks where I lost 4 pounds or more! Not necessarily because it was my goal to do so, but because that is what my body saw fit to drop. So, it can be done, and if you are doing it this once, and for a good reason, not just because of something vain, I completely understand your need! Also, what time of day do you weigh in? You tend to weigh less in the mornings, and as you consume food/ water throughout the day your weight fluctuates, so to be sure you know exactly what you need to lose, weigh yourself at the time you will be weighed for this weigh in. Good luck, and don't stress too much, that never helped anyone lose weight!
It's a morining weigh in, thank god! Also I usually drop weight in clumps and I've been steady for awhile now, hopefully it's my time. I'm trying not to worry, but it's so much money...
are u doin a regular weigh-in or are the doing BMI, waist height run push/sit- up kinda thing? here are a few things that we do to get ready for our PT tests.... sweatsuits... eat a light dinner, the slimmer belt and basically just eating light until we get to the test. i dont want u to do anythign unsafe but this is what works for some of the females i work with. and they pass their PT tests.
Waterphoenix, a guy in my class who's on the Olympic training team for wrestling said that if he has to "make weight," he will essentially dehydrate himself temporarily, and then drink lots of water afterward.
I wouldn't suggest this for you, especially since he has at least two coaches supervising. It's certainly not a healthy way to lose weight permanently.
But there may be something to the "lose water weight now, gain it back after the weigh-in" approach.

Eat NO SODIUM and drink ALOT of water and you may be able to make it... also heavy sweaty exercise the morning of your weigh in will help you drop that last little bit if you're still over.
You might be able to do it by increasing your deficit. Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.
Thank you so much everyone!
Messam- It's just a regular weigh-in, I'm fine for the PT run/push/sit-ups. It's good to know there are others out there who struggle with this issue too.
Pompey- I'm not gonna do any serious dehydration. I might not drink as much in those last 24 hrs, but I don't want to run the risk of hurting myself either.
Ya'll are great!!!
