Lean Muscle Building????

Quote  |  Reply
Hi.... I have recently lost a lot of weight. I used to be 210 lbs and now I am at about 150. I am 18 yrs old and am 5'7". Currently my exercise routine consits of running about 3 miles and biking for 20 min everyday. I ususally end with some pushups and crunches. I am looking to maintain the same weight approx, but get more toned and build some lean muscle. Right now I am eating about 1500-1700 cals a day. I am starting to get sick of running and its making my legs really tired. Im starting school and my university offers group fitness programs like spinning classes, and muscle toning routines, would these be a good replacement for some workout days?? Does anyone know of a good exercise program for weight maintenance / lean muscle building. Also any tips on a nutrition plan for the same goals? Any help is apprecited!!!!!!!!

Yeah!   Jill is right.  Don't be afraid to hit the weight room.  At my school we had a very good weight room with all the machines and free weights you could ever need.  There were also lots of fun classes.  It can be a great way to meet people, too.  Pick something that sounds fun and go for it.  I always enjoyed the hip hop dance classes and the kickboxing.
Take the class at school! It should help you with form and you might find a workout buddy there.
Jill thanks for the site. I sent it to my wife. She too is scared to work with free weights because of the guys over there.
hey, love the site...'cept the math bit is very confusing. According to it, I have to eat 920 calories a day! What???

I take a weight lifting and a cardio class at our local comm college and highly recommend getting into weights.  I started last year and although my weight is the same it was a year ago I wear 2 sizes smaller.  Don't worry about bulking up - women aren't built that way.  Sure you may get bigger muscles in some areas but they will also look nicer.  I find having more upper body definition has helped my hips and thighs look smaller.  I am technically 10 lbs overweight for a healthy BMI however when I do body fat % I am in a healthy zone.

Do the weights and the spinning classes.
