Leg Length Discrepency and Jogging. Anyone know anything?

Quote  |  Reply

I have one leg that is significantly longer than the other. When I was younger I had to be watched to make sure the scoliosis didn't get worse and it never did. I have never had any pain and even after I took up running I still don't experience any discomfort. (Other than occasional cramp from running for a long time.) I really enjoy it but sometimes wonder if I am making anything worse? I do a fair amount of crosstraining; jog three times per week and take two days for crosstraining. I even got do some of the good exercises from the No Business Running article.

I guess what I am getting at, has anyone had any experience with that or know someone who has. My right leg is much stronger than my left. Is that normal or because of the LLD? Should I even worry since I have had it all my life? Should I compensate and do more reps of my crosstraining exercises on my left leg or do you think it will even itself out the closer I get to maintaining the muscle?

I did a short google on it and didn't really get anywhere. I can't ask a doctor because no insurance;no money. That sort of thing.

Thanks in advance!!!

Not sure about the jogging and I don't have scoliosis, so not sure if this will help.

When I was eight I broke my leg, resulting in my right leg being shorter than my left.  A few years ago I had a few full body massages in a classroom setting.  The instructor did some therapy on my right leg which stretched it into being the same length as my left was.

I can not tell you how much better my posture was after that class.  My lower back pain went away almost over night.

So I would say look into massage therapy and see if they can do something for you.  The message that I got would have been about $150.00 if I had to have paid for it.

Thank you for your response. I kind of freaked out a little when I got my in seam measured and it was close to an inch difference. My posture has always been poor but I would like to blame it on the scoliosis. I feel funny sitting or standing straight up. I would love to get a massage even if nothing happened from it. LOL. Thanks again! :)

Yeah they fixed the length of my leg, but nothing can help the fact that one foot is still a size smaller than the other one.  Makes buying shoes a PITA.

Just be careful, after the massage you will feel like sleeping.  The next day, you feel like someone beat you up.  Totally worth it though.

I don't jog, so I don't know anything about that.  I do have mild scoliosis, which makes one hip higher than the other, and in effect, one leg shorter.

You can get a lift to put in the shoe of your shorter leg.  That's easy and will help even you out.  I wouldn't suggest a one inch lift, but a half inch lift my make a difference.
