I'm thinking of shaving my legs.  Leg shaving is normal for cyclists but I've just never been able to bring myself to do it.  I guess it's because I come from an era when the only thing a man shaved was his face.

So I was wondering how many men out there shave some area other than their face and what women think of the men that do it?

I've heard two rationales for shaving for biking - wind resistence and if you fall off, the gears won't get caught in leg hair. Is one right?

Wind resistance is not a factor.  The reason cyclists shave is to make the cleaning and bandaging of the ineviable road rash much easier and reduce the chance of infection.  Also it is more comfortable during the daily massages that cyclists receive to speed recovery.  A minor reason, and my only legitimate one, is that it makes it easier to apply embrocations.

I'll take care of it but I think waxing is the way to go.

Ah that makes a lot more sense - because "getting my leg hair caught in the gears" was one of the grosser explanations for something I'd ever heard.

I don't think I'd have a problem with a guy doing it, as long as there is a legit reason for it. I'd be a little wary if a guy did it because "he likes how it feels".

Hairy back, on the other hand... that should be taken care of.

tr, my husband's a cyclist and he shaves his legs regularly.

Now that my therapy's done and I know I'm hetero I can admit that I like sleeping next to smooth legs.

It still bugs me when he uses my razor though.

If you have a hairy butt, I would not recommend it.  The line of demarcation would be too comical.

 Oh My Goodness!

Glad I had already swallowed my cereal. You are very very mean PG. (In a great way of course) :)

Two of my three brothers, and my father, all are cyclists who shave their legs. My brothers are not hairy at all and it really doesn't look any different. My dad is VERY hairy on his entire body so it's pretty noticeable. But knowing they are cyclists, I don't think anything of it...

Me, too. I need to come into the lounge to play more often.

Well, I'm pretty hairy elsewhere as well and this has been one of my concerns, that it would look out-of-balance.

But my question wasn't really about cyclists.  I know of several younger men in their twenties that shave their entire bodies; chest, back, arms, legs, etc.  I think this is an odd fashion trend and was wondering what others thought of it.  Or did you just think that men weren't as hairy as they used to be?

Personally, I love a hairy chest. Legs Arms are great too. Clean shaven seems un-natural. I don't mind a little hair on the back either. No big deal.... not a carpet though.... that kind of hairy back is not good. IMO.

I think a hairless man would be strange.

i'm with you igloo! men are supposed to have some hair. my ex used to shave his chest and back. i did NOT get it all all. his back hair was hardly noticable and his chest hair was just normal. you know what was gross though? back and chest stubble! ugh!!

tom, i think a guy shaving his body hair for a legit reason, like cycling or swimming is totally fine. also, some "manscaping" of certain areas is always appreciated. but otherwise, leave it alone!

I always take care of that simply for the optical illusion that it creates.

...but it's great for exfoliating your partner's skin...I have the smoothest legs...

AND it's also great when you're itchy

I like moderately hairy guys! I understand shaving for a sport, but just in general is a bit odd.
