The Lemonade Diet / Master Cleanse / Detox

Quote  |  Reply
Alright, I've done some major research on this and spoken to several people first-hand about this.  After hearing how WONDERFULLY they sleep and how great they feel after being on this diet for three days or so, I'm convinced it will help me.  I've been feeling not-so-great lately, and I'm not sure why, so I'm hoping this will improve the way I feel!  I know a lot of people on here don't think it's a great idea, but our bodies really can store up a lot of junk and even eating healthy can't get rid of ALL of that without purging our system for a short time and FOCUSING on getting rid of that junk.  I'd love to share my experiences with anyone who wants to hear about it.  I know there are other posts on this, as well.  Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know!

Well, from what I've seen, there haven't been any scientific experiments done on this diet, so I can't say that either side of this issue has any ground to stand on.  Plus, I haven't heard of anyone who has completed the diet and said anything negative about it.  All I'm going by is the way my friends have said they felt once they've completed this diet.

"athena, I don't want to come across that I know everything I'm talking about."

No worries there. Researching something by asking other gullible people about it is hardly "major research" in my book, but hey, it's your body.
But this thread about "detox" not the subway diet. :P
but i just mentioned the subway diet once, in reference to myself, making a point that not everyone may agree with the healthiness of the diet you decide to do, but doesnt mean you shouldnt try it anyway.
There is a negative effect, eating that few calories for 10 days, is not healthy and of course people who completed it don't complain, they were ignorant enough about the health of their body to even try it to begin with. Just a thought. :)
& your thought is considered. but if that's how people roll, that's how they roll.

I don't remember mentioning the names of the people who did this diet, so how could you know whether they are gullible or not?  For all you know, they could be doctors!

Basically, I don't feel this website was set up to bring people down.  I got the impression it was for support.  I originally posted my plans to get some support, but it seems to have taken a turn for the worst.  Thanks to those of you who have supported my decision.  To all of those offering constructive criticism: thank you, I appreciate your concern.  To those offering UNconstructive criticism: I'd appreciate it if you kept your comments to yourself.

If they had been doctors you probably would've mentioned it earlier when doctors were brought up. :) & I'm done now, I guess. ;)

An alternative for those who are concerned: I almost always put fresh squeezed lemon in my drinking water bottle -  consider that even  one step in the "right direction"  will help you. I also love to eat a fresh lemon - as one would an orange or other fruit Yell.   Anyway,  good luck Im looking forward to hearing of your great success!

I've known people who did this cleanse as well, and they are perfectly fine and healthy now, it's not a long-term diet plan, but a short cleanse. I personally wouldn't be able to do it, but they were able to get to a place where their bodies have felt better in the long run after doing the cleanse. So, idymae, good luck, and I hope it brings great results, as far as helping you to feel better in your body.

as a matter of FACT - many of the "experts" disagree about everything! One needs to  find what  feels right to them, investigate and monitor themselves as they go along.

I was having issues with my foot - was told I have gout - went online and found info regarding blood pressure meds I was on causing gout symptoms - mentioned this to my doctor - who investigated himself and THEN - 2 weeks later, called me up to change my b.p. meds - telling ME ( as if I hadn't given HIM the info)

On new meds, I am symptom free - no gout!  Though I love my doctor, and he is way ahead of any other I have dealt with- he is still a human being first and we do need to pay attention to our own issues!

If someone's already posted this, I apologize.  I haven't read every post in this thread

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_cleanse

This is the real history of this diet.  It's been around since the 1940s when a book was written about it.  I tried it in the 1970s and was really sick after the third day. I actually passed out.  I think it's worthless.

very true, patti.

i think it all depends on the person.

if you can do it, great. if not, oh well.

life goes on.

I have done a 10 day Master Cleanse (Lemonade Fast) 5 times in the past and just happen to be starting another one tomorrow.  It's been over a year since the last time I did one and I really need to do it.  I always feel so much better after I finish the fast and the feeling of wellness lasts for several months.  You'll be amazed what you will poop out during the time you are on the fast.  The first time I did the fast, I passed a 4" fluke-like parasite (I have pictures to prove it. . . yuck!!)  There are several people who have posted their fasting journals online (just Google "Master Cleanse journal").  It really helped me the first time to read what they went through and what they experienced so that when things (such as passing that fluke) happened to me, I knew what to expect.

I just joined CalorieCount tonight so it was interesting to see your post about the Lemonade Diet since I'm starting the fast tomorrow.  I'll let you know how it goes this time.  I'm 53 years old, so I, too, have  a lot of gunk built up in me from years of eating processed, chemical laden American food, as well as having lived overseas for 13 years.  I eat pretty healthy now and try to take good care of myself, but every time I've done the fast, it has really helped my health and I think it is helping to keep me "younger" (yea!).

By the way, I just read your post about what the diet consists of.  You mentioned maple syrup.  Just wanted to make sure you know for the cleansing fast, you use Grade B or C Maple syrup, which is darker and stronger than normally used Grade A Maple syrup and has more minerals and minerals in it because it was harvested at the end of the season (which means it remained in the tree longer).

Also, if you can't handle using the cayenne powder in the lemonade because it's too spicy hot, you can take cayenne capsules (which is what I do).  Get the kind marked "Cool Cayenne" which means that they don't give you heart burn :)

quack, quack, quack! if it walks like a duck...

seriously, why do you want to torture yourself, when you can do it without making yourself miserable?
depends what your definition of "miserable" is.

for some people...
working out can  be miserable.

starting a healthy life style can be miserable.

the cleanse can be miserable- but in the end, it makes you feel good.
I did this a short while back. Of course it worked, that is, as a colon cleanse. I used senna tea, as well. However, my metabolism seemed to stop. I had weighed 143 when I did it, went down to 138, but a couple/few weeks after the cleanse I was at 150. Now at 165, I'm not very happy. Though, if you have issues and a good reason to cleanse, I say do it. If you're doing it for weight loss, I'd toss this idea out.
I am on my 16th day on the diet. I feel great. I used to binge eat all the time and diets nevere worked for me, for some reason this diet works. I am never tired, never feel hungry, I sometimes miss eating but never hungry and I never feel weak. It is great, I am going for 40 days.
While this diet isn't meant for losing weight, you will lose weight on it.  I'm not doing it for the weight loss aspect of it, however.  I'm doing it to feel better and start an even healthier lifestyle than I was living before.  I had done very well dieting since March, but once I had lost about 25 pounds and July hit, I started having bingeing problems and couldn't get myself back under control.  I have a good feeling this will help me appreciate healthful foods again!
