hey, everyone.

just need some advise on my dog. i though that this would be the best place to ask!!

I have a pure bread English Staffy about 3 years old. Such a cuddly dog, really well trained. However when he gets excited he tried to lick your face. he does it to visitors and friends of ours. i have tried to tell him 'No' and tap him on the nose. Yet he still does it, even if you tell him off. This behaviour is really strange because he usually listens to me, this is the only thing he blocks out.

Any ideas????

i have heard in the past that dogs do that out of respect. in the wild wolf pups lick the faces of the other wolves as a sign of submision. maybe he is to cuddly and submissive. i have an 8 year old dog, who still does it. but i have a 5 year old, who is the most submissive dog ever, he tries to lick me, but just sits there and licks the air around my face, but doesnt make contact.

perhaps you could take the offencive approach and teach him to give people more space. he cant lick if he's not near the face.

When he tries to jump up and lick your visitors have them turn away from him and ignore him - when he sits down then they can pet him - that way he figures out if he gets in their space he doesn't get any attention.
