Lifting with a deficit
My apologies if this questions has been asked before, but I am new to fitness training.
If I lift weights in a deficit of 500cals/day, I will not build muscle. -- if this statement is true, do I loose muscle, or fat? I don't know.
due to calorie partitioning and the fact that a caloric deficit would protein synthesis on the backburner, you would like maintain your muscle mass. in any respect it is almost guaranteed that you'd be better of weight lifting while lose to maintain your muscle and elevate your metabolism moreso than if you weren't weight lifting but less so than if you were eating at maintenance. you won't see gains in musculature but you'll minimize the loss. I hope this makes at least a bit of sense :)
Lifting with a deficit will help make your body shape up quicker- yes you may lose some muscle mass, but I think its minimal compared to the amount of fat that gets lost. Also your muslces will be stronger and will look better and once the fat is gone you'll have a great body to show off
I was wondering this myself, if strength training would even be worth it since there's no muscle gain at a deficit. But if it helps maintain muscle mass and boosts metabolism, then I definitely consider it to be worth it (I'm majorly afraid of losing muscle mass while losing fat).
