Light to moderate exercise question

Quote  |  Reply

I just started taking bellydancing and yoga class. I attend each class once a week. Both classes are an hour long. I love both of the classes so much, although I am still concerned about my weight gain objective. The feeling of being able to gain weight on my regiment (which I never could gain EVER) feel so amazing. I went from 110 to 121 in 2 months. My main concern is that I do not want to lose this weight, I want to mantain/gain more. When I take these classes what sort of calorie intake should be my goal for the day? How much do I burn off doing these activites considering they are both pretty light? Is there a certain thing I should eat before and after the sessions?

I'm not sure how many calories you will be burning, but just up your intake a bit if you are concerned.  Make sure you weigh yourself regularly and if you see yourself losing just add some calories!!  Exercise like that won't blast calories so it is doubtful you will have trouble keeping weight on as long as you keep track.

And congratulations, achapoka, on your success!

What sort of yoga do you do? I'm pretty sure bellydancing isn't too heavy, though. Essentially, if you're out to gain/maintain eat back your exercise. But yoga's not too strenous unless it's Bikram.

I practice regular yoga, so i guess i am in the clear! Thank you so much for your comments and recommendations

Congrats achapoka, it sounds like you're doing really well, keep it up!  Like you, I do regular yoga as well - power yoga, and advanced silvananda yoga, and pilates, as well as being pretty active - I like to take walks through t'countryside, and I was wondering, do you guys estimate the amount of calories you burn and then add it onto your goal for eating during the day?  Advice would be appreciated, ta kiddoes!

if youre trying to gain-you have to eat back those brned off calories.  also, when you excercise, your metabolism speeds up, therefore buring additional calories that you also ned to account for.  cardio, or power yoga maybe, im not familiar w different yogas, would burn calries making ut difficult to gain weight.
