Does anyone have a working knowledge of the Glycemic Index?
I have been trying to learn how to effectively use this in combination with my caloric intake but I do not know how to mesh the two. The University of Sydney in Australia states "Choosing low GI carbs is the key to sustainable weight loss."

This interests me too. I've read that a food with a GI rating of 50 or below is considered to be a low GI carb.
This is along the lines of an anit-inflammatory diet, which is supposed to be good for all kinds of ailments.
This site (you have to scroll down) has a chart of some foods and their GI rating.

Hi,
I am taking a nutritional biology class in prep for a nursing career at the moment, according to my textbook the following constitute the ranges for GI. Low GI= below 55, intermediate GI=55 to 70 and high= more than 70. example listed include carrots (55) whole wheat bread=69, vanilla wafers +77.

Thanks. Is there a list anywhere that lists both GI and calories? Is there a comprehensive GI list anywhere? I have found several online, with a little help from amberlyd, but they do not have all of the foods listed. I have also noticed that the GI is different on different lists, what's up with that?
Robert, I have The Good Carb Cookbook that talks about glycemic index and breaks foods down. It is alot to type up. If you can't find the book I would be more than happy to snail mail mine to you. I have a couple other low carb cookbooks that you can have too. They were excellent when I was low carbing it/Atkins. Let me know if you want to just have them. I'll put them in the mail for ya next week. Hugs! lynette
Thanks for all of the information guys. I love to make home made soup, looks like I need to do it more often.
Lynette, what a great offer! I am going to try to fine a copy of the Good Carb Cookbook, but if I fail I will definitely accept your offer. I do not know how to contact you directly. My e-mail is
bob
