Count calories. Take it slow. Move around. :D

Oh, and lift weights.

  1. Take your time.  It's not a race.
  2. Everything in moderation.
  3. It's a lifestyle change, not a diet.
  4. One bad day does not mean everything is down the toilet.  Start again, and again, and again.
  5. Use the tools you have available, cc being a super valuable one.
  6. Surround yourself with supportive people.  If you don't have them in "real life", cc is a great place to find support.
  7. Set smaller goals so you get a sense of accomplishment.
  8. Reward yourself.  Often.
  9. Baby steps.
  10. It's doable.

That's my best advice.  If you're looking for more specifics, feel free to ask!

Laughing  Thanks.  I think maybe I should tag it for myself too.  #4 is one I keep having to remind myself of.

debcowan has great advice.

I would add, more more every day than you used to.  Don't delegate "exercise" to the gym (although that is great, too) or into a few days a week, but try to build movement into your daily routine.  Park at the far side of the parking lot.  Take a stroll around the neighborhood before dinner.  Find an exercise video you like, and do it every day.

Don't fall into all or nothing thinking.  To quote someone else on CC "Progress not perfection".  Make small changes you can live with, and make them habits that will stick.  Don't do anything to lose weight that you can't at least tolerate, you might be surprised at what you come to enjoy once you make it a habit.

Don't worry about your final goal, every little step you take gets you closer to healthy, enjoy the journey.  Pick some interim goals and really reward yourself as you reach them.

Love yourself no matter what you weigh -- it's easier to take care of people you love.

I'm looking to lose about 100 also.  My biggest challenge is not letting 1 bad decision snowball into fifty bad decisions.

i.e., buying a little, 1-oz bag of chips at work.  And then saying, "oh, I screwed up with the chips so I may as well eat this ginormous cookie too" when what I should do is say, "ok, my afternoon snack is about the same number of calories as the chips.  Skip the snack for today."

Do an immediate U-turn back into good habits.

don't deprive yourself.....even if Ur craving some thing bad. I Waite a day and if I am still craving said food I allow myself to have it.....in a smaller portion then before CC.  I have lost 55 and have another 85 to get to my goal.  And the days/weeks where I don't let myself have what I am craving just because the are bad are the hardest and/or my least successful.  I just make sure I still count it (it helps keep me aware) and work out more to help compensate.

For me the funny thing is as time goes on I have less and less of those old cravings.

Besides all the great advice above I also look up the foods I used to eat to keep me motivated and aware of how many cals they are if I eat them.  When I first started I was shocked and amazed at the # of cals I used to consume in one meal.

Don't shoot for your calorie limit everyday. Look up the zig zag method of weight loss. Basically, the zig zagging means eating an average number of calories per day. Some days you eat, say, 200 calories less than your limit, and some days you eat more. I saved up a few hundred calories for the week-end or for special occasions this way.

It keeps your body guessing (and burning like mad) and allows you to live life like the other humans do.

Good luck! I zig zagged my way from 251 to 154...you can too!

I'm with freakybunny on this one.  I am a huge fan of zig zagging.  HERE is a great site that helps you figure out the numbers.
