It's like having new clothes...

Quote  |  Reply
I started on this site in early September and have lost about 11 pounds. I haven't measured inches, but wish I had so I can compare to now :)

Yesterday, I wore a blouse and skirt that haven't fit since last January, and today I wore a skirt that hasn't fit in 2 years!

I'm posting here since this is motivating me to continue on with the exercise and counting. It's like I'm getting new clothes without going shopping since my old clothes are fitting again :) I'm looking forward to the day when these are too big and I really do need to go shopping.

What do you do with your clothes that get too big?

Yay!! Congratulations on your loss! *throws confetti* It's great to be able to fit old clothes again! So motivating!

For my clothes that are too big for me now, I just keep them and as I'm losing weight and inches, I occasionally slip them on to see how much of a difference it is. Lol it feels like those people on those weight loss infomercials that hold out the sides of their starting weight jeans and then everyone sees how much space is inbetween. That's a really great feeling. Think how it'll feel once you get down to your goal size then slip them on again! Pure awesomeness.
ha, lilydream, I do the exact same thing.

I have to run around and show everyone too. My family is getting tired of my amazing skirt trick, where I can just wiggle a bit and they fall off cause they're so big. ^__^

But maybe donating them? ..Doing something crafty with the fabric? ..Or become a burden to your family by doing the same stupid things I do?

I took my old jeans and made a patchwork tapestry out of them.  Its cool (since my couch is denim).  I use the pockets to put xmas and bday cards in to display them on the wall.  Fun, functional and a tribute to my sucess!

All my big clothes have been dumped in charity bins, except my jeans I sold on ebay :D
I'm stingy, and although I HAVE bought new clothes (obviously it's impossible for me to not, because i'm me.) the clothes that I don't want to buy again because 1. I want to wait until I'm at my goal, and 2. they're my favourites!! I just sew them down the seams so they fit again! Or make totally new items of clothing out of them.

At the moment, I just keep taking my clothes in - jeans, tops, whatever. I'm not quite THERE yet to buy an entire new wardrobe. But when that day comes... man oh man....
I love that "oh look what I never threw out because I told myself I would fit in it again and I DO!!!!!!" feeling!

I've actually expanded my wardrobe considerably finding such things.  And I took the opportunity to purge things that were fitting like sacks.  It felt wonderful.
I too am finally going through my boxes of clothes from moving years ago, and am finding things that I couldn't wear then but they do fit now.  I think I've gone through all the boxes so the surprises are over, but there is a lot of stuff there.

Of the stuff that is too big, I took some of my favorite unlined suit jackets and cut them up to make vests and teddy bears.  The jackets were too worn to donate.  I'll be donating some jeans though that aren't even a year old.
I moved recently and threw out (donated) all of my "skinny" clothes from size 3's (totally not in style anymore anyways...oh wait aren't the 80's coming back LOL!) to the 12's I kept the 14's though just in case. Now the 14's are too big, dang isn't that the way it always happens : )
I just purged my closets.  One garbage bag full of 20-22-24's.
My daughter is bringing them to her group meeting on Wednesday.  Someone there will enjoy them.
I had lots of 11/12's from before that really fit now and I kept some 13's (some of them run small so they fit) but all 14's and 16's and XL's I gave away unless it was something I just could not bear to part with. I just gave them to friends. I look at it as a symbol to the fact that I WILL NOT gain this back and I am solidifying that.

Now I think I may end up in a size 9 which is beyond my wildest dreams, but they are starting to fit!!
My favorite pair of Jeans would be the ones I wore in grade 6. I was a large girl then and now they are too big for me! Major ego boost from that! I was a size 12 in Grade 6 and now, 8 years later Im a 7-8 :)

How times change...
Wow, Meredith.  Read your profile and your story is so inspiring!  I started near the same weight with the same to lose.  Do you mind telling me what your daily calorie intake is/was?  I'm struggling with mine.
wow... congrats to all of us who donating those larger sizes... which means we won't go back to them... I did keep my size 10's when I lost all the weight 4 years ago... and recently when the 6'st didn't fit and then the 8's weren't fitting...well, wake up call and I found CC... now I'm almost back into my 6's ...

I've donated a lot of good clothes (business suits, etc.) to an organization called "Dress for Success" - it distributes good working clothes to women in need so that they're able to dress professionally for work.  The rest I've just donated to Good Will...

And there's no more 10's in my closet.... I won't ever get back there!
Hi Leslie!

My calories varied...when I first started here, I was quite sedentary. I did not work or exercise. I stayed at home. I did some light cleaning, but that's about it.

So the site told me to eat 1600, I did and the first 10 came off easily. I was excited and knowing the first 10 or so can be water, I decided to drop down to the limit, 1200. When I started back to work, I was losing too fast and decided to up it to 1400-1600. Now, mind you every week I would slip up (purpose or not) and eat 1800-2100. Honestly, I think that is the secret...eat low, but at least once a week do maintenence. That way your body is burning that fuel but does not freak out like you are never going to have enough fuel again.

I do not count so much anymore. After awhile, it got tedious, but I feel like I learned HOW to eat, you know? And at about 35 down, I started to exercise...that is what is most important now, I think.

Okay, sorry I wrote a book here!!

Good Luck!
I recently started wearing 18's and 16's so I just went through my closet today to get rid of all of the 22's to 20's jeans.  I bagged them up and will take them to the donation center tomorrow to be donated to the local good will store.
What do you do with your clothes that get too big?

Actually, I brought this up on another thread, that a concern of mine was when my current clothes got so big for me that I wouldn't be able to wear them anymore.  While I can't wait for that day to happen, being on a very fixed income will make purchasing new clothes quite difficult, so I asked around for suggestions and someone said to look around for something like a weight-loss clothing exchange group.  So I looked around and the only thing I could find was a resource for those who have had bariatric surgery, and most of them needed verification of the surgery in order to take advantage of it.  Well that's all well and good for those who have had the procedure, but what about those of us doing it the old fashion way?  So I took it upon myself earlier today to make up my own exchange group here.

Feel free to check it out - it's a totally free group for people from all walks of life, all around the globe.  The idea is that those of us who have worked our way out of our bigger clothes can swap them in for something that might fit is better.  Makes sense?  And if you are offering a bigger size, and someone on the list knows someone that can use it, then by all means, let them know.  I just started the list today (a few hours ago, actually), and just finished making up the group home picture, so haven't gotten to inviting anyone.  You all are the first!!  Feel free to pass on the info to those you might think might be interested.
Wee!  I'm so excited!  I didn't wanna make a new post about this, but I just tried on this really cute strapless dress I bought about 4 years ago (couldn't bear to get rid of it... just didn't know what to do with it), made out of this soft and stretchy material, and it actually looks decent on me!  Another 10 lbs or so, and I think I'll actually wear it out!  I'm so excited!  The scale hasn't moved in a while, but wow!!!!  It feels *amazing*.  And yes, it's like having new clothes!  I need to get another sewing machine so I can alter the ones that I love to fit me.

:) :) :) :) :)
Congratulations Sparkleriot !!!! Isnt it a great feeling and especially when you werent expecting it.
I just gave a huge box of old clothes to the Cancer Federation - I decided they are never going to fit me again!

I need to do some clothes shopping myself, I only have 1 pair of jeans that I like - my others are the older style, time to update!

Congratulations on the weight loss - that is wonderful!
