Quote  |  Reply

hello im a little confused about calories in liquids and whether i should worry about logging them too much

fruit juices sometimes seem to have quite high calories but are liquid calories any different to calories from food... and if they are should i still add them?

Hey Daisychain,

A calorie is a calorie, whether liquid or solid. Yes, you should log them.

Dan

A calorie is a calorie.  It doesn't matter where they came from.  Log calories from juice, soft drinks and alcohol.  They all matter.

yes, you need to log liquid calories. A calorie is a calorie and expecially liquid calories should be logged because they are more than likely empty calories.

Try sticking with water and unsweetened tea or coffee. You can cut a lot of calories out of your diet that way.

thanks everyone, problem solved i will log my liquids :)

The one thing to remember about drinking your calories is that they generally don't satisfy your hunger for very long compared to whole foods.  I have been told by a few people to try to eat the piece of fruit rather then drink the fruit juice, or to go to the low-calorie version of the fruit juice if you are craving it.  but a calorie is sitll a calorie.

The exception to this is milk which I find very filling.  Not sure why - maybe the protein?

Absolutely log them! Most people underestimate liquid calories and in turn underestimate their intake. If you want an accurate count, put them in there.

Think twice about the liquid calories. Is it really worth it? I personally limit mine to milk with my cereal and one cup of coffee, black.

Water the rest of the day. I like food to much to waste the calories on drinks.

OH MY GOD I'm trying to imagine the utopia that would be a world where beer calories didn't count

spirochete-

I know I'd have a mocha frappucino for breakfast, a glass of red with lunch, a corona or two with dinner and baileys as a night time treat!! oh utopia!

YES! Except lunch would be red wine and dinner would be Coronas. Think of all the calories I'd save

There are limits. Logging the calories in coffee?
