How do I list foods that aren't in the system?

Quote  |  Reply

Tonight I'm having chicken and rice for dinner, that's chicken with white rice and cream of chicken soup. Problem is is that it's not in the list of preselected foods. Is there a way to add that in?

You'd have to look up chicken, then rice, then cream of chicken soup.  If it's a recipe, put it together in the New Recipe analyzer.

Thanks so much!  I didn't see the new recipe analyzer (or didn't look for it) until now but I see.  Thanks.

I have used the recipe analyser in the past and loved it, but have also used it and could not for the life of me get it to recognize all my ingredients. Grrr.

So honestly, sometimes when I'm feeling lazy ( or maybe that I just want to spend less time in front of the computer :oP) I will figure out the running total for cals and fat for my meal and just use the "add it here" function. I know that it doesn't give me an accurate view of the protein/carb/fiber etc, but it gives me the general gist of where I am in my cal count for the day. We have peasant internet and it's soooo slow, so when we have a "snacky supper" as my kids like to call it, where I have one of 7/8 different appetizer pieces, it's much simpler to put "snacky supper"- 450 cals 17g fat, than to try to sort through all the options on the food list. Seriously, it takes me 15-20 mins to log my average meal Cry

I also use the recipe analyzer pretty regularly, and have gotten better at getting the system to recognize my ingredients, but still sometimes get frustrated.  It helps me to re-read the "tips" from time to time, and Claire is a great resource if you get stuck.

One thing that is a lifesaver is tagging the recipe so you can add the leftovers the next day without having to recreate the recipe.  Also, be careful about what you call a serving, because it is hard to change the portions once you have it entered.  What I mean is, if you say it serves 4, and it comes up with x grams, x calories, but then you decide to only eat 1/5 of it, you have to recreate the recipe because you can't change the portion size.  I sometimes make the portions pretty small so that I can have 2 servings for dinner, and 1 serving for lunch.  I don't know if that makes any sense...
