Little chunk of fat by underarms

Quote  |  Reply

I got this feeling this is gonna be a nbb (nothing but bitch) week ,lol .

What gets rid of that lil flab that overhangs from tank tops which I will be wearing in less than 8 weeks on my vacation and don't feel like having in any of my pictures.

I do pec deck at gym and chest press; I probably should be doing push-ups too, right?

Any help greatly appreciated...

PS not sure how good an idea it is to take before pics of yourself ...sigh...

Push-ups and other exercises that work your chest will do nothing to help you lose fat on your back. Pull-ups, chin-ups, seated rows, one-armed rows and other exercises that use your back will strengthen your latissimus dorsi (back muscles) but the only way to lose the fat is through calorie restriction.

In eight weeks you really can't do much, unless you would willingly do something along the lines of the Velocity Diet - very low calories and carbs for 28 days. You can lose 12+ pounds of solid fat on such a program, but it sure seems a bit excessive to lose a bit of flab.

No, not on my back , sorry, I should have specified in front of my underarms beside my breasts. I am sure calorie restricting though.

orcasinger-

i feel your pain!!!! i bought a strapless wedding dress while i still had underarm fat... almost like your breasts are spilling out in all the wrong places!!!! i have been watching my caloric intake and doing some pilates as well as power walking for my cardio and in the last 6-7 months, i have seen a HUGE difference.  i finally noticed it last week when i went for my dress fitting and i didn't have to keep my hands on my hips to avoid the fat squishing up over the dress (lol).  it will take time though.... but i do push ups with an exercise ball and it works really great.

good luck to you!

I hate that "spare boob" under the arms!!  The best "quick"fix is go to Victoria's Secret and get a measurement and get a good bra that helps "hide it" or lets your tuck it in if you know what I mean.  since spot reducing isn't possible you basically have to lose the fat and since our body decides where it wants to take the fat its best to just "fix" the look until its really fixed.
I was just asking my boyfriend about this the other day! He's a Phys Ed major so I ask him all my fitness questions. Obviously losing fat will make the area smaller but it still may not be firm (my problem). So in addition to losing weight he told me I should also tone the muscles that lie under that area. Regular chest presses work a slightly lower spot so he suggested inclined chest presses. Lie on an incline bench (so your head is higher up than your butt) and press the weights straight up as you would in a regular chest press. This creates an angle between your arms and your chest that is greater than 90 degrees and so it should work the right muscle. I've only just started this though so I'm not sure if it works yet but all the other advice he's given me has been great.
This does go away with weight loss. Mine did! Toning can help too, but the issue is really just excess flab. It's like the 6-pack issue, really. All the toning in the world, won't do you any good if there's a layer of flab over the muscles.

With that said!

The right fit of clothing can make a HUGE difference. Look for tank tops that have adjustable straps so you can shorten the straps, and you won't see the underarm flab. Or armholes that are cut higher. I see you're 5'3" - you might try shopping in the petite section and I'm betting this will make all the difference in the world.

Of course if you are handy with a sewing machine you could attempt to restructure armholes and straps yourself too.

Thanks so much everyone for all the suggestions; I will be using them all guaranteed.

Why is it that your boobs disappear and these little blurbs (I like that one) are left...oh the unfairness of it all Surprised

hehe, I call them chicken cutlets :)
And I have them pretty much all the time until I get down to a pretty low bodyweight.  They're a curse.  x2 on the good fitting bra advice!
Can I wear that bra under my bathing suit ; teeheehee

One word:  Genetics

Even when I was tiny: 115 pounds, 5'7" and muscular on top of it all I still had those "blurbs".  My biceps also always "look" fat because I don't get great definition just bigger.  My Mom's nickname was Popeye growing up because she has such huge muscles but again, never definition.  Damn genes!

Its definitely about the fit of the clothing.  In some tanks I have horrible blobs there and in some I have none at all.  If the top is too tight it makes them look even worse.

Agh my thoughts exactly!!!

I'm 13 years old, I weigh around 115, and i'm 5 4.5 and i have that underarm fat also. I'm fine when with my weight and appearence, but the underarm fat is makes me think twice about going to my friends' pool parties and wearing strapless shirts.

as probably know its impossible to spot reduce parts of the body. all the presses in the world will not help if your diet isnt upto scratch. You need to try and reduce your bodyfat.

p.s you cant actually tone musle. muscles can only do 3 things, get bigger, get smaller or stay the same. when people use the term tone they actually mean muscle definition through lowered bodyfat.

Your skinny and young... please enjoy your life more.

Ok ladies, 99% of us have this! I think we all might be better off making sure we are healthy rather than freaking out about it. Honestly, no one notices it except yourself (until you start pointing it out!). I work in the entertainment industry and one night Fergie (the singer from they Black Eyed Peas) was at whatever show I was working and I saw that she has that underarm fat too. At that moment, I realized that it's not just us 'regular' people who have it, celebrities do too and everyone else in between. It's ok! Just focus on exercising, eating right and enjoying life - it's too short as it is.

That little 'underarm fat' is actually breast tissue - nothing to do with the arm at all. Wearing proper fitting bras [which over 80 percent of women DO NOT] will help take care of that unsightly looking flab.

^^ agree with karen!!! I'm very fit and I still have it (go look at my pictures and you'll see it!!) It doesn't bug me at all...it's just a part of my body. I have C cup boobs and I think the only way that would disappear is if I were to become an A cup, which I really wouldn't like ;)

I agree it's often breast tissue, and you can't do much about it. Mine definitely is, and it's separated from the "main" breast tissue.

When I had my kids and breastfed them it was quite uncomfortable because it would swell with milk and I could barely put my arms down.  My OBGYN said it was quite common and nothing could be done except surgery... which would be purely cosmetic.

I've actually wondered whether they could simply relocate it back to where it ought to be and fill my somewhat saggy breasts back up!?!
