a little over 5 weeks without a smoke

Hey,

It's been five weeks and four days without a cigarette.  It's been about a week since I've had any nicotine in my system.

I used the nicotine gum to curb my withdrawal symptoms and keep me from biting people's heads off while quitting.  (I've done that in times past.)

Walmart has their Equate brand that's reasonably priced.  The 2 mg dose pieces came in a box of a hundred, and I think it ran about $25.  However, I don't know what the price is with the new tax rates.

I smoked 6 on a good day, almost a full pack on bad days.  Did so for 6 months, after having quit for a month cold turkey in September.

This seems to be working for me.  I've not wanted a cigarette in a few weeks, even after seeing other folks sucking on one.

I hope this is the last time I have to quit.

Congratulations!  Everyone has their own way of quitting and whatever matters is you are not smoking!  Keep up the good work :)

Wink I have been smoke free for a year and 1/2 . It took my third try. I did gum, the patch and then Chantrix.

You mentioned you are a week without nicotine. That's huge!!!

If you still have gravings that surprise you make note of the time and situation.

Keep short notes. Like...

At bar with friends or flight delay. This helps you prepare a mind set in advance of those situations.

Things nobody told me but I found out later were.

  • Smoking burns 200 cal per day if you are a pack a day smoker
  • This equates to 1 lb apx every two weeks
  • So you need to burn those calories another way

This is why even without an increase in food intake most smokers gain weight to the tune of min 5-20 lbs within the first year they quit.

The good news is...

Now you can run, dance, skate do aerobics knowing you won't be huffing and puffing because you can't breathe. You will be making your heart stronger and making up for the stress you had been puting on your heart when you smoked.

Besides skinny but dead from cancer is definitely not better than heavy but smoke free.

Congrats!

Thank y'all for the advice and words of encouragement.  It's really appreciated.  :)

Woo hoo!!  Yay for us!  It's been two weeks since I smoked a cigarette!  I have quit and gone back off and on for about 10 years, and this is the last time!  Nothing worked for good, and in fact nothing was EVER easy--except this--prayer and nicotine replacement.  I found that the lozenges were the best choice for me, and I am excited because I am finding that after two weeks, I am only using 3-4 lozenges a day and feelng great!  I haven't been biting people's heads off or crying uncontrollably either (things I did in the past, even with hypnosis).

I am thankful!

If you are wanting to and are afraid, I was there, and know it can happen!  You can be free!
