So here is my dilema:

I am 50 years old, have lost 16.6 lbs. since october 15, that averages l lb. a week and all my foods are graded A or A-. I eat 1200-1300 cal a day, am suppose to consume 1350, so I am not that far off. some days I am 1500, so not doing to bad there and am 5 3 inches.  I don't exercise as much as I should, but my deficits are always 600-800. I have figured everything that I am doing to be right. What do I have to do to speed up this process. I would just love one week to loose 1-2 lbs. for a change. i read that some people are loosing 2 lbs a week and would love that just to give me a boost.

What can I do to speed up the process to maybe 1-2 lbs. a week. I really thought that seeing as I started since october that by christmas I would have reached 20 lbs. but not gonna be so. If you can see that I am doing something wrong, please comment.

If I sound eager to get the weight off, I am, seeing as I keep reading that most people are loosing 1-2 lbs a week. I go three-four weeks and then loose 2 lbs. Makes it a long 3-4 weeks.

Also, should I be taking a supplement of some kind. I read where lots of people are taking Vitamins.

i'm no diet expert, just like you struggling with a slow weight loss, here's  the conflict, when i joined a weight loss club, yes it was expected to lose 1-2 lbs a week, the weight did come off quickly, but hey ho, it went back on quickly.

i gave that up, then went to see a diet nutritionist at the hospital, she changed my life, it was not diet sheets, it was looking at what and why i eat, she wanted me to lose 2lbs, a MONTH!!  my heart sank, this was going to take a hundred years!! it was clear i had to eat more to lose more, move more, i lost 2 stone over a long time , i am like you,  stuck, same weight for the last 3 months, BUT  i have not gained a pound of that 2 stone i lost over time, it has stayed off. this is not a good of the year for diets, but do not not be put off, if you are losing 2lb a month, it will stay off forever, check you are eating your maximum calorie allowance each day, your body could be storing the fat as you are not eating enough calories!

dont give up a little loss is better than any gain,

What's your rush?  I'd give anything to lose a whole pound a week, but I'm happy losing 1/2 pound or even less, as long as I see that green trend line on my weight chart going down.  It's taken me a really long time, but I've found that I don't gain the weight back the way I used to.  It's because I took the time to change my eating habits for life, not just as a temporary diet to be gone off of when the weight is gone.  I know I'll struggle with this for the rest of my life and that's ok.

Give yourself time!  Feel free to look at my profile, including weight chart and the history of how I did it.

I guess I don't qualify as "most" people since I have never experienced a 1-2 lb loss since I started here!  My weight has been the same since October 4th.  That's the last time I showed a loss.  I am eating my BMR calories of 1400, with very few exceptions going as high as 2000.  Still, the scale won't budge.  I've lost 33 lbs, and still have 22 to go.  So I'm over half way there.   My measurements have changed though!  My clothes are fitting better!  I feel better.  I don't weigh everyday anymore; just once a week.  The scale will move again; this I'm confidant of.  My BMI is now considered "slightly overweight".  I used to be "obese."  I've only got 5 lbs to lose to be considered in the upper range of a healthy weight.  Wow!  I've never been there before.  Every little milestone is a joy, even though my scale isn't rejoycing with me at this particular moment!  Good luck to you.  It's hard to accept, but don't get discouraged.  Patience is the key if you are eating clean and exercising.  It will happen!

I learned that the less emphasis I put on reaching a certain weight by a certain date, the happier I was. I realize that it's frustrating, but this is not a race. Yes, other people may lose faster, but they are starting at a different weight, and have a different metabolism. If you must compare yourself to anyone, think of the people who have been plateauing for months - at least you are still losing! That's great! Think about how far you have come, and enjoy it.

I was so happy when I saw this topic.  I've come accross the same problem.  I have 20 lbs to lose and after 5 lbs loss the first 2 weeks I have hit plataeu this last week.  I am also seeing a nutritionist only for that reason.  I was always starting dieting on my own and wanted to lose 5 lbs a week or some ridiculous amounts and ofcourse after the first few weeks that my body would starve or after a regular dinner (not even overeating) my weight would bounce back and I used to get so discouraged that I was always stopping my efforts.  Now the nutritionist yells at me when she sees on my food log that some day I haven't eaten as much or that I have used coffee as snack when the afternoon hungries hit.  She has told me to eat every time I'm hungry but always the right portions.  Is good that the body is asking for food and we should give some to it but not in a form of chocolate or frappucinos or cookies.  Anyway, my point is that I am going through a plateau right now and I do get discouraged a little but I won't give up this time.  I have my next appointment in 3 weeks and she also wants me to lose no more than 2 lbs by then.  Oh yes, is a long process but the results are worth every second and every craving of the world.  Congratulations to all of you for how far have come.  Keep it up

i dunno what to tell ya.  lol  sorry...  but apparently i'm 5'7" & started out at 218.  i lost 22 pounds in my first month, i think.  i didn't look this up...

omg!  there must be something you can do!!!  OR maybe you are just gaining muscle...  what are you doing?

i mostly just walked.  lol  i am lazy...

Its me again Debra,

Its hard to tell if you are able to fill the holes in your diet by just the foods you eat.  Eating healthy helps, but supplements are designed to put the final touches there.  Be careful though, not all supplements are made the same.  For instance, not many people know that there are 2 types of supplements.  Food grade and Pharmacutical Grade.  There is a book that is called  Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements.  Look it up and it should open your eyes to whats really out there.  I use pharmacutical and the absorbability rating of them is around 92%.  Over the counter vitamins average 10% to 30%.  Hope this helps.

Bryan

Thanks, that is just what I'm gonna do.

No problem.
