Little victories adding up
Sometimes its the little things that count:
My BMI is now "overweight" rather than "obese." Whoohoo!
I fasten my bra on the second hook rather than the last. It may take more than a wonder bra to get my boobies back up where they belong when I'm done but it will be a bra that is a 38 rather than a 42.
I had to use the drawstring on my sweats this morning because they kept sliding down!
I'm wearing pants that I haven't worn in a couple of years because I was too fat. It's like discovering a whole new wardrobe in the back of my closet.
I can wiz up hills that used to leave me breathless and I passing people on the track.
My waist measurement is about 3 inches smaller. It was learning about the effect of belly fat on my health that got me started losing weight and working out.
All little victories that mean a lot to me, more than what the scales shows. Although that's nice to see too!
Anyone else had any victories lately?
Reason: 4/8/08: Stickied; 4/14/08 unstickied
yep!
i have been able to buy some pleasing clothes recently as i have dropped a significant amount of weight. this alone was very satysfyin, also giving the big ones away.
What fun.
I can't bring myself to buy anything new just yet, so I'm digging out stuff I haven't been able to wear for quite awhile. Not fashionable but cheap.
Once I shrink out of those, it's time for a shopping spree!
yep, iagree the things cost money (more mony when i cannot resist a pretty necklace or something:) - i have dug out a few things but i mostly gave the "thin" ones away years ago, so that i do not have much. well i am at least getting nice new things i really like, must work hard to be able to contonuue to do so though:-)
i'm so excited to be able to ft into my old clothes, let alone buy NEW clothes! i have jeans from earlier this year that i'd like to at least get on and zipped and feel comfortable before i let myself buy new ones. but it's definitely something every girl on here is looking forward to i'm sure, who doesn't love shopping when everything fits like its supposed to!
hehe. found some old clothing that fit, altough mos of it was either unfashionable or just too old (i have kept some t-shirts for things like gardening but got rid of lots of others. i am 33 and simply cannot wear as worn/washed out t-shirts as when i was 17, kwim:)
Yes I have! I am down a size and the pants are getting too big again! It is funny how one can discover a whole new wardrobe when you lose weight...then hopefully get too big and that means shopping for smaller sizes..yeah! Carol
I"m finding stuff that I bought a year or so ago and never wore. I guess I couldn't believe that my butt had gotten that big.![]()
It's nice now to pull those things out and have them fit. I can call it "foresight" instead of denial.
I've just realized that i've stayed committed to this for a whole 2 weeks now, working out for one week. that is BIG for me. I also lost an inch around my waist, 1/2 inch around my hips, and had to switch black pants for work because they were far too big. i dont even have a scale, because i live in a dorm, but i can feel im making progress. i'm even beginning to feel like the soreness is a victory....and that is a whole new ball park for me.
Me too bendlaurie...I have two pairs of capri pants I bought last year, both too small, one I couldn't even get on...and now they both fit! As well as numerous other items, some still with their tags on. And I am so happy to have them as I can't afford new stuff right now! Defiantely foresight ;)
Other small victories:
When trying to decide whether we wanted to see a movie or not, I actually suggested to my boyfriend that we walk down to the theatre to check the listings. It was only a couple blocks....but there was a time I would have made sure to decide BEFORE walking there so as not to waste a trip...now I am cool with the extra walking!
If I feel like it, I can eat a chocolate and not feel like I am about to go on a major binge. Well I did yesterday, anyway...I ate ONE 80-cal chocolate (they are chocolate-covered macadamia nuts my parents brought me from Hawaii a couple months ago, absolute decadence, victory in itself that they are still around) which I figured was ok since my cals for the day were only at like 1400. I ate one, and loved it, and that was the end of that. No guilt, no mad craving for more, nothing but perfect control. Bliss.
Victoriagirl - I love chocolate-covered macadamia nuts. If I could buy just one, I'd be OK, but if I had a box in the house I don't know if I could keep out of it. Way to go!
Congrats bfnck4e. Getting in shape and eating better is something we should all try without a scale. It's easy to get hung up on numbers rather than recognize how much better we feel in our bodies. Keep at it.
We should give ourselves pats on the back for our little victories. Ready, set, pat....pat....pat!
I had an awesome one last weekend which requires a little back story. Last year for my birthday my boyfriend bought me a cute t-shirt that says "Slap Bet Commissioner", a joke that you will only get if you watch How I Met Your Mother, an awesome show by the way.
It would have been a nice present except that he bought me a size medium which I did not have a hope of fitting into at that point. So I said thank you and didn't wear it, until he finally asked me if I didn't like it and I was so humiliated to have to say that it was lovely but I couldn't fit into it. It was so mortifying.
Anyway, I tried it on this past weekend and it fit! I thought it might have still been a little snug but my bf assured me it looked great. So I wore that t-shirt on Saturday and felt like a million bucks because I was so proud of myself for fitting into it.
I resisted the temptation to take some of the free pizza in the Student Center today :)
And, I walked down to the cafe yesterday to get a big free cup of water instead of spending money on a bottle of soda.
:)
They're too big.
Wheeeeeee.
I've been able to get into jeans that were way too tight a couple years ago, which was a huge victory. Plus, the jeans I was stuffing the extra 25 pounds into that I lost fit loosely now. I have no idea how I wore those pants that were obviously too tight. It's nice to feel like I look good in clothes too.
Yay for us!!
Congratulations! I know the feeling of fitting into something that was once too small. I bought a t-shirt at gay pride 2 years ago too small, and this year i will be able to wear it!
I think we should have a log for all the calories we didn't eat
Melly991 - my husband used to buy clothes for me that were always too small. On the one hand, it was kind of a compliment that he thought I was a smaller size. On the other hand, it made me sad that those nice clothes never fit. Now, we don't buy clothes for eachother because it's too hard to get the right size, style, color and such.
Maybe when I get into shopping mode (I'll run out of old, smaller clothes eventually) we can go shopping together. He has great taste and it will be nice to show off for him! That would be another victory.

My scale Finally shifted in the right direction and I have lost 1.5 this week! Yey me! 180's here I come..
Now THIS is a good idea. Here is what I DIDN'T eat last night...
One of these yummy chocolate jello pots... only 60 cals and my very last one... but I was full after chicken and a giant helping of broccoli and green beens, so I ended up putting it back into the fridge for an "emergency chocolate urge".
Congratulations to everyone. I finally got the scale moving in the right direction and am feeling encouraged.

Seeing the scale move in the right direction is a huge motivator. Noticing all the other little changes has been a fun bonus for me. I knew my clothes would fit differently if I lost weight, but it still came as a nice suprise to actually see some results.
Seeing my waist measurement reduce; getting into clothes that wouldn't fit before; cutting down on sodium and fats and feeling so much stronger and more fit have become more inspiring to me than losing weight. I'm starting to feel like the person I used to be. My biggest concerns about my weight gain were the health risks and the loss of fitness. Its exciting to feel so much better even though I have at least 40 pounds to go.
Folks on the forums are so inspiring, supportive and generous. It's been a wonderful resource. Thanks!
I noticed I don't get as out of breath going up a flight of stairs. My partner also noticed I don't snore anymore..which is probably due to some weight loss!
