Do you work outside the home?  If so, what do you do for a living?

If not, what was your last job?

If you are a student, what are you studying?

I'm a telemarketer and I LOVE it!  *ducks*

Safiyah

you won't love it when you call me ;)

Actually, the people who get angry at me are the most entertaining of all.  People get so angry that they cease to think rationally.  You'd be surprised at the interesting voice mails I've heard.   And it never ceases to amuse me to see the lengths people go to in order to get me off the phone, when all they have to say is "I'm not interested, don't call here again" and hang up.  End of discussion, and end of calls from me.

But instead I get all kinds of amusing things thrown at me.  *clharr, thanks for the donut, it was delicious!*  It doesn't bother me in the slightest.  But the one thing that might surprise you is the number of people who ARE interested in what I have to say.  When I became a telemarketer it was a last resort.  I thought I would hate it, because I dislike it when they interrupt MY day.  But the truth is, I love my job.  They are the most flexible job I've ever seen, and I earn what I deserve to earn.  I pick my hours, my days off, and I enjoy the phone calls.  Even the hateful ones.  ESPECIALLY the hateful ones.

Not that I'm calling you hateful, don't get me wrong.  ;-)

I work as a Rep in the Loan Support Department for a Credit Union.

It's fun dealing with other people's money!

Oh, and what do I do for a living? They pay me to stay home - ahhh, retirement! I highly recommend it!

Oh I am so jealous!

Safiyah

I work in the IT department of a major hotel company in New York. I am a technical writer, writing software release notes and manuals. Yay-what fun!! <sarcasm> I've been here 10 years. For 6 of them I was a software trainer and traveled to all of our hotels to train. Now THAt was fun but wore me out!

I'm an architect, working for a small company, designing mostly commercial projects.  At times it's both stressful and boring, but the people I work for are great.  They enable me to stay in design instead of being shuffled into management, which seems to be the fate of most Architects I know.

Mollymouser,

You have done it again, the most amazing post ALWAYS start with you. I see big homes and always immediately ask "what do they do for a living?" so i am so glad you started this post. I do NOT make enough money to even mention. I work in a transportation office and love it, but want more money to go with all the responsibilities I have. I am a student working to be a teacher, though that was not my original plan (I wanted to be a forensic photographer since I was a kid). I am also a mother of two daughters and a almost-wife to a wonderful man for 8 years now.

So many of you have interesting and rewarding careers!

I am an accountant at a construction company by day and at night I'm working towards a Master's in education.

Here's a little sub-question for anyone who see's this..

What do you do for a living and what did/do you want to do for a living?

I'm curios to see how many people end up doing what they thought they wanted to do, I'm only 19 so I haven't quite gotten to that point in my life yet...

dmarie0502,

What do you feel you want to do? You are right, that is a gret sub-question!

ahh, safiyah, i really earned my retirement.

as for your follow-up questions:

I had always wanted to be a nurse or a teacher - decided in Jr. High - but didn't begin school until all 3 of my sons were in school. Nurses ARE teachers, so it worked out for me. I went right into Mental Health nursing - after 14+ yrs was burned out and went into nursing reviews of insurance requests. It was all satisfying for me - not everyone's cup of tea! I only retired early at my husband's request - he really IS a full-time job. (thanks to the RR.)

Public defender.  I represent people charged with misdemeanors.
I'm a jeep sales and tech specialist =)

I'm still in high school, but I do already know what I want to do with my future. Medical Research.

This is what I thought I wanted to do.  Now I'm really, really glad I ended up in finance.

Well, like I posted I'm now a Quality/jack of several trades Engineer, but when I was 6 I wanted to be a truck driver.   I knew I wanted to go into engineering when I was 14, though - just didn't decide what kind until my second year of engineering school.

Hmm, wish I knew, sure would make picking a major easier!

I have an internship as a 'buyer' (supply chain management field) and before this I had no idea what it was so I'm kind of liking this right now; also considering HR, and mayyybe Marketing.  I'm double majoring in German so working for a German company would be pretty practical, I'd say!

When I was younger I wanted to be a vet.. then I realized I really really don't like that kind of science :)

26 years in the Intelligence Analysis/Language Analysis career field -- retired from that

Professional swim coach (I work it full time, but I get paid like it was part-time/hourly...)

Always wanted to be a doctor or a marine biologist or a librarian or a gym teacher or nun (not even catholic, or nun-like), or a teacher, or a -- oops, my ADD is showing again. 47 years old, and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up... sigh

In elementary school, I wanted to be a marine biologist, an archaeologist, or a worker in the Peace Corps.

After high school, I majored in English Lit (high school English teacher), then switched to nursing (love science and teaching).  While on sabbatical from nursing school, husband and I found out we were expecting first child.  School was on east coast; we were on west coast - so nursing degree was not completed.

When second child was three, I began work substitute teaching in the local school system.  When second child was five, I went back to college and earned a degree in education.

Taught five years at the elementary (4th grade-all subjects) and middle school levels (7th grade - life science), then left to help husband run his restaurant (one of his dreams).  Business tanked after two years, so took job at Zappos.com warehouse packing orders for shipment (needed a paycheck and health insurance).  **Cool place to work, by the way!!

Found another teaching job, this time in adult education, teaching literacy and GED students.  So now I teach four days and week, and still pack orders at Zappos.com two nights a week.  Life is good!  I have time to workout and train for a marathon, and my two jobs are so different from one another that it keeps life interesting.

the list of things i wanted (or thought i wanted) to do is a long one.  suffice it to say that i found my calling by accident, and that going to grad school in my late 30s was one of the few planned and purposeful steps i've ever taken (hence the english degree --> youth work --> MSW path).

my best advice is to say that all plans are subject to change, and that's cool.  don't expect to "know" or to get it right the first time.  the only thing that's a problem is if you stop looking to the future/planning/dreaming.

I don't do anything for too long Smile I am a qualified beauty therapist, a Reike Master, Office Administrator, I have done all of those for a living, but at the moment I am head of operations for a company at the airport doing ramp agent work. I have been doing it for 3 1/2yrs and I am now getting bored,  looking around to see if there is anything else I fancy training for.

I'm such an unsettled soul Smile
