What do you DO for a living?
Do you work outside the home? If so, what do you do for a living?
If not, what was your last job?
If you are a student, what are you studying?
Well, I really always wanted to be a stewardess/airline hostess. I thought it seemed like such a glamourous job - high heels, make-up, short skirts, crisp white blouses, traveling the globe. But then I got older and realized there were other ways to travel the globe. I'm glad I did, especially with the sad state of the airlines these days!
In between undergrad & grad, I worked as a product manager for a Dr. Atkin's product at a marketing company. Interesting and boring, all at the same time. Like most things...
Now I'm working on a doctorate in linguistics. I got my undergrad in anthropology. Both of those things have kept me travelling the globe! I'm nearing the end of my time as a student, wrapping up my dissertation, wondering what I'll do next. I'm not so keen on academics, though I love teaching young people. I think the first thing I'll do when I graduate next May is try to be a better, more available wife. It's been hard during grad school, with teaching and working on the dissertation, it's like holding down two full-time jobs! My husband, who is always supportive, is looking forward to having his wife back!
If you're considering grad school, especially a PhD program, think looong and hard about it. The vast majority of people I know in grad school wouldn't do it again, and many do quit along the way.
I always wanted to be an interpreter but for now I am a high school foreign language teacher and cheerleading coach
hi gypsierose
i really do love teaching. i've been thinking about teaching high schoolers when i finish, but i would have to have additional coursework in certain social science fields plus certification. it's strange that a PhD and several years college teaching experience doesn't qualify me to teach high schoolers in the public schools. i've been thinking about looking into private schools more, where there is more interest in the experience & accomplishments of the faculty than particular certifications. what's your perspective?
hahaha I definitely have no desire to teach ESL much longer. But I'm good at it and it's easy for me.
After I finish my Master's I want to work in Eastern Europe working with at-risk youth and teaching HIV/AIDS education because it's blowing up really quickly there. I'd like to work for a big name international aid organization (like UNICEF) sometime later.
Live-in nanny for a German family in Italy. I have been working as a live-in for several years and really like it. Short commute to work, live in really nice places and decent pay.
Another software engineer here.
When I was (a lot) younger, I wanted to be a train engineer in the summer and frosty the snowman in the winter.
I'm an actuary at a large insurance company. I get to play with numbers all day, so it's perfect for this math geek!!
I'm a Virtual Assistant. I do freelance administrative work on my own schedule. This includes doing scheduling for life coaches, bookkeeper/assistant to the director of a local farmer's market, creating and updating websites, data processing & desktop publishing, etc.
I started doing this when I decided to go back to school for graphic design, which starts in September. My goal is to overlap school projects with client projects whenever possible, to give myself a bit more free time and (gasp) get paid to do homework!
I thought I wanted to be a biologist/research scientist when I was younger, but realized I didn't want to be a lab rat my whole life. I've already gotten over being a corporate whore, so I'm hoping to work for myself (and employ others, potentially) in both virtual assistance and graphic design businesses.
I am a mainframe programmer...i love what i do...i code programs in Mainframe...and do proj management tasks...i am a contractor for an outsourcing company...
I'm a Professional Dog Groomer and a former Graphic Designer. Got tired of sitting at a desk all day (and got fatter).... always loved animals, so decided to go for it! :D
I am in Information Security Architect.
Boring, but it pays the bills, buys me toys and even flies me to Bermuda on occasion ;-)
I am a "certified professional coder" and bill for dr offices
Composer/artist
I am a mechanical engineer. I work in the aerospace industry; we design attitude controllers for satellites.
I'm a full-time honors liberal arts degree student, with a concentration in anthropology and a minor in art. I'm also a full-time barista at my local Starbucks.
I am going to a field school for archaeology next summer, hopefully somewhere on the West coast. After I get my bachelors degree, I plan on being a field archaeologist for a while to get a little experience in the career field and get to know what I like doing and what sort of studies I want to pursue....then after a few years, I'll apply for a graduate program and hopefully conduct my own studies as a REAL archaeologist.
I'm excited. :)
I'm a wildlife biologist and am also going to school for my PhD in same ... sort of as part of my job.
I'm a Presbyterian Minister and I love it.
Pretty much what I always thought I would do but I had to reconcile myself to it first! Sillysonrisas, you may not have to live in a box, but your walls will still be cardboard.
I work in the financial Services industry-it sucks-but I'm attempting to switch careers....
