How many llbs to lose before you notice the difference???

hey, just wondering, if your bigger, then does it take a longer time for the loss of lbs to show on you...???

obviously it depends on your height n weight I guess!

Yeah, it definitely depends on your height and weight.

I'm 4'11", so if I even lose/gain 5 lbs it is very noticeable on me.  For someone who is 5'11" though, I doubt it would show at all.

If you are 5'6" 250+ lbs and lose 30 lbs, you probably won't be able to tell much. If you are 5'6" 150 lbs, and lose 30, then you definitely could tell.

thanks, that's actually really really helpful!

i think it must be so hard if your 250lbs and you lose 30lbs n you feel that you cant see the differnce. for me I feel like people are starting to really notice my weightloss now, so if i lose more and more it'll keep showing!

It does depend on height and starting weight.  I've dropped over 50 lbs (about 15% of body weight) and have had one person comment.  That's it.  But one of my smaller friends can lose 5 lbs and people notice.  Just depends.  I'm doing for myself, and I can see a difference in my face and body.  So that's all that matters!

The general rule is about 10% of your body weight.  It took me closer to 15% though.

I started at 267lbs. I'm 238 now and I don't think I look at all different. Nobody has noticed - its just people who know I'm dieting being supportive by saying they do. Its just important to not let it get you down!

I started out at 5ft 4in and 240 lbs. I am down 60 lbs since starting out in March and people are JUST starting to notice. It is really quite funny to me though...I get these shocked expressions as if I lost the 60 lbs overnight. I recently saw my mom and had lost another 10 lbs since seeing her last and she looked at me like I was a completely different person. It really does just depend on the person I think. Although no one else seemed to notice up until now...I definately started to see a difference after a 15 lb loss.

Hi I wondered that same thing I read something some where (not sure where) that when you lose weight it comes of your head and feet first, legs arms ect. Thats probably why I didnt notice it when i started putting on weight ha ha!!!

I always find it makes a difference on how often I see someone.  If I haven't seen someone in awhile they always seem to notice alot quicker that there is a change, but then again I'm 5'6" and I didn't look like I weighed 220 a few weeks ago.  All I know is I sure noticed the other day when I put on jeans right out of the dryer and my hubby noticed right away after I put them on.  He even commented that they were bagging a bit in the butt and I've only lost 15lbs.

I'm glad to hear others have this problem.  I'm 5'3" and last year I dropped 20 pounds and not even my husband could tell even though I'd also gone down a size in clothes too. :(  I did insist he be honest so if he couldn't tell, he couldn't tell.  Now, I'm 30 pounds heavier (put the 20 back on and 10 more).  I am saddened realizing it might take dropping 30-40 pounds before he and others start to notice and compliment me on the difference.

It seems to take forever! I've lost 13 lbs in the past 7 weeks, and I don't notice much difference at all.  It's partly because I'm pretty tall (5'8") and also because I distribute weight fairly evenly.  It's an advantage while gaining (no one notices) but a disadvantage while losing (no one notices!)

Oh, for all of you not seeing a difference, absolutely take starting pics and pics in between.  I do it monthly.  So I started in May and it wasn't until August pics (3 months) that I looked and realized that I could totally see a difference!  But looking in the mirror every single day, I'd only think that maybe I lost a little in my face.  Pictures help to see it more.

I started June 23 and I am down 15 pounds, although I do think I may have gained a little muscle as well. I am 5'7" and started at 208. I am down a clothing size, and my husband cannot stop telling me how great I look. I also notice it in my face, so I don't think it takes too much.

I guess from everyone answers the answer to my question is that EVERYONE is different and unique and that weightloss shows less on those who start out weighing more then say losing 5lbs on a 117lb body or something?

Anyway it made me realise tha I've gone past the hard bit of losing weight where no one notices and now people are commenting, so the weight i lose now is showing more then those pounds i dropped before. All in all it has inspired me to keep on losing! yay!

thanks everyone who replied :-) it has been much appreciated and good luck with your own weightloss journeys!

im 5"11 male  was 280lb's now 250lbs and people notice all the time, mostly about my face, also it could do alot with me fitting in my old cloths i dunno

I am 5 feet tall; the difference was noticeable after 10 pounds. I don't see a very drastic change, but apparently my other ex-other-half does, been called a skinny menace lately whereas before I was a fat menace.

I'm about 5'4 1/2" and started at 277 pounds.  I had lost a good 30 + pounds before anyone even noticed.  When I hit about 40 pounds down, people started to notice.  But now I've lost 73 total and most people comment on the significant weight loss, but some people still say they don't see much of a difference!  It is so frustrating!  When I look in the mirror, I THINK I see the difference, but I don't trust myself that what I see when I look in the mirror is really how I look to others, so I don't know!  I hope that makes sense!  Because I have been overweight all my life, I don't trust the image I see in the mirror.

I am 5'4 and started at 145. I started to notice a difference in my face & body at 10 lbs, although I did not start getting comments until recently. I am now down 18 lbs and several people are noticing -- and commenting.
