How to you log it???
Ok so here's my question.. (tried to look for this thread but couldn't find it)
I'm sure you all have seen my work out/lifting regime. I lift for 70-90 mins (depending on my "breaks" in between sets) and I generally lift at a level 8 out of 10 (so I can do 3 full sets of 10-12 reps). Meaning I lift about as heavy as I can to stay within schedule. Granted I am not lifting like a dude, but I have actually never seen a girl lift as much as me in the gym; with the exception of the two gf's of mine that come in late night (they are actual body builders and do about 2x as much weight as I do).
Anyhow, I am trying to up my cals; experimenting if you will. I want to hit no more than a 500 cal deficit per day. In efforts to do so I log my exercise in the AM, plan my meals and timing, and make sure I am on point to reach my nutritional goals for the day. All week I thought I was doing great :/
BF looks at my activity log and says to me "why would you log your activity as 'Weight Training - light or moderate effort'?" I figure... there are two options for weight lifting on here "light or moderate" and "body building - vigorous". When I think body building I think of my BF shruggin 500lbs... not me squatting 90+ the bar, ya know? He goes on to say there is no real weight I need to lift... it's the effort.
I do break a phatty sweat, and I try hard.... but is it considered body building? I need to know bc the calories are way off if so... I am still under shooting it if I need to log it as vigerous - body buiding.
Ladies or Gents: Advice? How do you log???
IMHO, based on your earlier posts about your workout and your above description of the style workouts you're doing, I'd tend to agree with your squeeze and call it vigorous. I'm in his corner--I base my estimate on what my body tells me during and after. If I hit it like an animal that day, I call it vigorous. If I did a day of calisthenics or lots of ab work, I might bring it down to the "general" or "moderate".
The way I look at it, vigorous is in the eye of the beholder. Just 'cause you're not doing 450 lb clean and jerks surrounded by a bunch of olympians doesn't mean you didn't have a vigorous workout. If you're sweatin', your heart rate's upped and you feel like you got hit by a train after you're done (okay that last one's probably more accurate for me than you--40's closin' in
), I think you're safe logging "weight lifting--vigorous effort".
Again not an expert just my take on it.
I log as vigorous. As melkor pointed out in a post somewhere a while back, in CC's database the "vacuuming" activity burns more calories than the "weightlifting light or moderate" does. I'm definitely working harder during a workout than I do vacuuming, and I bet you are too.
