How should I log a less than stellar workout?
I went to boot camp this morning but I forgot my water and I was scared to push it too far. Now I want to log my exercise but I am not sure what to label it, standing? walking? light stretching? light calisthenics?
how hard exactly did you push it? but we all have those days, sometimes the workouts are not up to scratch due to a number of reasons, but its the consistency that is key.
Thanks for the response octo-luv. Part of the problem is that I am not exactly sure how hard I worked out. Strength training is new for me. I am much more accustomed to cardio. For example, I tried to to the push ups but I have such little arm strength that I couldn't go all the way down on my arms even though I was on my knees. It wasn't easy perse, but I didn't work up a sweat.
Remember that sweating is not a good indication of effort - it's a better indication of the room temperature.
I don't really know what is involved in boot camp, but just because you aren't strong enough to do a full pushup doesn't mean you aren't working hard to do as much of one as you can.
In the big picture of life it really doesn't matter how you log your w/o. It is what it is (or was!) You at least showed up! So, log it as light calisthenics, or stretching, or massive burn or whatever .... and tomorrow do more! Go for it and have fun. Show up!
I usually go be perceived effort rank 1-10.
1-4 is not really applicable.
5 is crappy effort
10 is where your heart rate was sky rocketed
Then do a ratio of calories burned. For example, if you didnt put much effort, and it usually says you burn 500 calories per hour, then give yourself 250. If you gave yourself anything less than a 5 out of 10 effort, not worth logging in my opinion.
Hope that helps?
Unless it's really hot and causing you to sweat buckets, water shouldn't be an issue.
Runner's for example, usually don't carry water unless the run is going to last over an hour OR if it's crazy hot then they might carry water. But for an indoor cardio class that probably has A/C, water shouldn't be a concern.
Note* I'm not advocating ditching water, but it's really not that big of a deal to go an hour w/o it. Sure, you will feel thirsty no doubt, but you will not be dehydrated from it. Real dehydration takes a long time to occur, depending on conditions.
Thanks guys! All the responses have been quite helpful. I'll keep them all in mind.
