how long after you awake is breakfast no longer considered breakfast?
I read that one that is on a diet should not skip on breakfast because breakfast jumpstarts your metabolism. I get up at 5:20 am and usually don't eat until 10:30. I want to change this bad habit by incorporating a nutrigrain bar or something of the like on my drive in to work. Even with that..I still wouldn't be eating "breakfast" until 8 am. That's 2 1/2 hours after I wake up. Is this still considered breakfast?
can you just drink some juice like 6 ounces to get the metabilism going as soon as you wake up then eat breakfast later? It shouldn't take more than 30 seconds to do that.
Or you could get up 10 minutes early so you can incorporate a high fiber cereal into your mornings. That is what I did. I love the feeling of high fiber in the morning too. I notice I am calm during the day too.
When you eat breakfast you are breaking your fast because breakfast is a fast break haha get it...anyway, the first thing you eat is always a breakfast because it is the first thing you've eaten since the night before.
Ok, after reading this, I kind of have a question... It doesn't really pertain to this post, but it kind of does.
I have read that you should do your workout before breakfast, because it will make you burn more calories, or something like that. Well, I do my workouts in the morning, but I don't get up at the crack of dawn, so I am not getting my workout started until 9:00 or 9:30, and it takes me about an hour and a half. SO, by the time I am done, it is 10:30 or so, then I eat breakfast.
Does this sound ok??? Or should I eat before I start my workout?? And is it really better to work out before eating???
Thanks!
I have read you should eat breakfast with in 15 minutes of being awake. Your body has starved all night and you should feed it as soon as you wake up.
Is there absolutely no time for you to grab a lunabar or something before running out the door at five? I would think that it would be better for you to eat something first thing because you do wait so long before working out.
Ok, now for a real answer.....
A good rule of thumb is to eat every three hours to keep your glucose levels even and hunger satiated. Group your meals like this: protein, carb and fat (ex- wasa cracker w/ hummus and some strawberries or piece of turkey w/ swiss cheese rolled up and 1/2 an apple) Great resource is Bob Green's Best Life book (the un-diet book).
Good luck!

Breakfast is the first meal of the day, preceding lunch or dinner and is typically eaten in the morning. The English word derives from idea of breaking the involuntary fast of sleep, thus signifying the first meal eaten after awakening.
I always considered breakfast as a meal one has before noon.
I hate eating to early, even if i wake up at 5 or so. Food doesn't really suit me too early in the morning.
I think it depends on who you feel ("your body knows best...") so if you feel you're actually weak by 10:30, then you should probably eat earlier.
I agree with ximena.
I do about 20 to 35 minutes of pilates or yoga in the morning, and by the end of it I'm super-hungry, so I eat a little something, and then get ready for my day. 10:30 is snack, then. I really just listen to my body, just as was posted above.
Ditto!
I eat around the same time as you. I get up early also but i'm usually awaken by my son so don't have time to eat until he's done which is usually around that time. I don't consider it breakfest if it's past 12 p.m
i get up for school around 5:40 every morning, by 6;600 im already running around the house preparing my morning feast. no later than 6:30 i have eaten. usually by 9:30 i eat agian, its usualy more than a mini meal, but its usually filling, sometimes i count it as second breakfast.
I can't eat food first thing in the morning. I'm the worst morning person in the world, and the very notion of food makes me feel sick to my stomach. If I'm at home I wait an hour or 2; if I'm going to UNI it is a 90min drive, so I eat in the car when I'm almost there.
Hummm dartrinton. A second breakfast!
How very hobbit-ish of you!
I love it!
Even though you are technically "fasting" when you are sleeping, your body is ridding itself of toxins. When you wake up your body converts from self cleaner to operator so eating right when you wake up can slow that process down and interrupt the clensing. A good rule of thumb is to eat when you are hungry. When you wake up, have a class of water to kick start yourself and then eat when you feel hungry.
I read a nutrition article that recommended eating within one hour of waking up and I find that works for me. I tend to overeat if I don't eat at pretty regular intervals. And since I don't snack after 7pm I find I am usually hungry within an hour of waking. I don't find exercise very appealing on an empty stomach and I am trying to exercise for 15 minutes three times a day.

Thanks
