How long does it take to drop a pant size?

Quote  |  Reply

So my current frustration is that I still haven't dropped a dress size yet! I have been working on my weight since August 1st and have began working out at a gym for the past 3 weeks 5x a week. I know I am well on my way because I have dropped 10 lbs and I can notice the slight change in my legs. Overall I do have 50 lbs that I want to loose. Anybody else dealing with this frustration?

It really depends - but losing 10 pounds in just over a month is great progress; really something to be proud of.  Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be dropping dress/pants sizes soon.  In the higher sizes (say, 12-14+), a size tends to equal about 15 pounds; in the smaller sizes, a size tends to equal about 10 pounds (possibly only 5 in the teeny tiny sizes).

Hi letlovewin!

Susie is right. In the larger sizes and especially if you are tall a dress size is usually 15 lb or even more.

I am almost 6' and 10 lb to me don't make a huge difference in clothes. Unfortunately... :o)

Just think of the following picture:

Losing weight means that you are losing a little from every part of your body. 10 lb from a 6' person means shrinking everywhere say 1 inch. 10 lb from a 5' person means shrinking everywhere maybe 2 or even 3 inches.

Does that make sense?

All the best

I've lost 27.5 pounds as of this morning. I'm 5'4". I'm still the same size 16 as I was when I started. But they are loose.

My sister, however, can lose 15 pounds and 2 sizes. No joke.

I'm an apple and she's a pear, if that might make a difference. She's also two inches taller.

Just give it time. Good luck!

When I was inbetween 165 and 170lbs, I was in a size 14-16.  Now I'm 150lbs and I'm in a jeans size 9 (if they are stretchy, for example if they are 2% spandex, which is common) and size 11 (if they are not stretchy) so maybe it just depends on your body size.  I'm pear shaped.

I will agree with susiecue though, for a lot of people I have met or talked to, the 15lb for larger sizes and 10lb for the smaller sizes does seem like the generic measurement.  It might also depend on where you lose your weight first.  I lose it from my hips and waist faster than anywhere else.  Good luck!  Just give it a few more pounds!

I have dropped a dress size each 4-5 week period at this stage, but it all depends on how big you were to start with.  The bigger you are when you start losing the quicker you lose and therefore the quicker your pant size drops.

I lost 50 pounds and only dropped from a UK 18/20 to a UK 14 where as other people I know could lose 50 pounds and drop another couple of dress sizes.  Part of it is dependent on your natural body shape and also where you lose weight from.

I lose my weight from the butt and leaves till about the last 2 months when it started going from the tummy.  Maybe you pant size will come down after your top size has lol

Yes, its all about your own body shape and whether its a larger or smaller size.

The 16/18/14's seemed to last an eternity. I think I was in a 16 for close to 30 pounds, maybe 15-20 for 14s, assuming overlap at all stages.  It was a battle to stay motivated as new clothes seemed so far off. But since then, the sizes are dropping much more quickly - think it is closer to 10 pound ranges. Its almost like the 10's never existed...I'm close to getting into single digits - gasp!

I'm apple shaped and tend to lose from my bum first --so pants will be hanging off me in the back and thighs, but I just can't squeeze into a smaller waist band!

Hey suzieque thank for the info I did not know that, that would explain why I have only lost about 2 sizes after a 30 lbs loss.

It took me 20lbs to drop a size - from 20 to 18, and then another 15lbs to reach size 16... I'm 5'3 and I've lost 38lbs so far (starting weight 200lbs) - but only 2 pant sizes (my waist is smaller, but not my hips) - and 3 top sizes

I started out at 247 (unbelievable, almost 300 and i cant even fathom that, i never knew i was that big :[ ) and i wore a size 18.

I weigh now 186 and cant even squeeze into a 14 yet.

double you tee eff.

=(

thank you so much for all the great responses!! i first started at 225 (size 16) and i am 5'9". so i have since dropped to 215, hopefully another 5 lbs and i will begin to see a difference in my clothing size. again thanks so much for the great info and support. ya'll are the best! :)

it took me about 12 pounds and a couple inches to go from a size 14 to a size 12.  Hopefully it'll all be easier from here...as susiecue said, bigger sizes need a bigger weight loss.

I started around an 18/20.... I have lost 40 lbs and am just into a 16/15. It takes forever!!! I dunno when it starts going faster but Id kill to be in a 14 lol

Hi! I'm 5'6" started at 212lbs at a size 14-16... I'm now 157lbs and am in a size 8 pants believe it or not!  Well 8 in 2% spandex pants and 10 if they're not stretchy... depends on where you're losing weight faster I think! I lost a lot around my chest, torso, waist and hips... so that helped... I think it took me about 2 months to drop a size... good luck!

I have lost 33 pounds and only 1 pant size. I was sooo dissappointed. I have waited all this time to go shop for jeans and once I finaly did I was saddened that I had only lost 1 pants size. I am the type of person I hate to shop. My self esteem is bruised every time I shop for clothing. You would think because I am female I would love it!!!! Next week I am going to start a very strict more balanced diet where I eat 40% protein, 40% Carbs, and 20% fat. Hopefully the fat will come off!
