Hey there everyone!

The title of this forum explains everything.  I am pregnant and MISS MY SUSHI!  So, I wanted to know how long after I have the baby until I can eat my precious treat again?!  Help!  Give me some light at the end of the tunnel Smile

Is there something other than raw fish in sushi that makes it a no-no during pregnancy?  I was just thinking that there are plenty of delicious types of sushi that don't have any raw fish at all (and there are even many that are vegetarian).  Sushi refers to the rice, not the raw fish.

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking eel (which is cooked), egg, asparagus, burdock, mushroom, sweet potato, Japanese vegetable, and often crab.  Laughing

Of course, if there's something else, then I have no clue and have only made things worse by talking about sushi.  If that's the case, I'm sorry!  Embarassed

I ate sushi over Thanksgiving vacation while breastfeeding. My midwife said don't overdo it, but did not ban it.

The same risks of contamination are present for anyone consuming the product and are low. There is nothing about a fresh, quality piece of sushi that affects pregnant or nursing moms specifically.

P.S. Baby may not like the taste of it in your breastmilk. Mine didn't seem to care. LOL!Laughing Hope that helps.

I think the main no-no is simply that it's a raw meat.  Pregnant women are not supposed to consume raw animal products because of risk of bacteria.  I also am pregnant, only 16 weeks, and I really miss sushi!!  I do get the vegetarian kind sometimes, just to fill in the void.  It helps!  You should be able to eat sushi again once you've had your baby.

I think all I wanted to eat for about the first 2 months of this pregnancy was Tuna Sashimi, so I feel your pain!

The only bad thing is the raw part - there are also questions of high mercury levels for fish in general, but the tiny bits you eat in sushi means that isn't much of a problem.

I switched to cooked sushi - shrimp tempura, california rolls - and I was pretty happy with it.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your input!

I went to my favorite sushi place during the holidays and ordered their "Disco Roll" which has tempura shrimp in the middle with cooked eel on top and I just about had the "Big O" right there!!  Lol!  It was sooooooo good!

However, when I went back to have it again, it wasn't the same and my craving for sushi has went down alot.

I had my baby girl on Saturday morning, and my mom brought takeout sushi to the hospital that night! Tuna Sashimi :)

I guess it's good you lost the craving since you can't have it!

Good luck :)
