How long can I go?
Well, this past week I was at a conference for work in Las Vegas and the morning I was leaving I came down with the stomach flu. It was awful and they almost called an ambulence. I am kinda better now, but I haven't exercised in a gym since last Monday. I did walk around Las Vegas the night before I got sick, so maybe that counts for exercise to some level since it was probably a mile or two.
Can I really do this?? Would it hurt or benefit me to wait until Thursday before I exercise again? I don't want to push myself and then get sick again. I am still kind of tired and have a few remaining symptoms.
How long can I go so its effective to kick the plateau, but not too long that I will regain the weight?
Gracie a lot depends upon the type of exercise you're doing. If it's weight training then you can go a month with no visable side effects. If aerobics then about ten days is fine.
The thing to keep in mind here is that your body needs to repair itself. It needs some downtime. If you don't allow your body the time to rest then you leave your immune weakened and you're susceptible to other illnesses.
If you had the stomach flu then chances are that you're also dehydrated and need to replace not only water but also salts into your system. This will help you to recover faster. You'll need distilled water along with a teaspoon of Himalayan sea salt. Do this about once a day for about three days. This will help restore your electrolytes and recover faster from your illness.
You should drink filtered water about a gallon a day to get rehydrated. Eat very lightly. You'll recover faster.
The question is did you really have stomach flu? If you drank any water you may have caught Gardia Lamblia or some other bacteria disease which hides in tap water or you can pickup in the bathroom because someone else didn't wash their hands. This can often cause flu like symptoms and the doctors usually don't test for this. As quickly as your flu hit you I would suggest that you see your MD when you get home and ask to be tested. This is not something you want to keep in your system. BTW: GL can come back even after you recover from it.
How long have you been in this plateau?
I just had a talk with a nutritionist who recommended that I eat maintenance calories for a month. Not close to it but actual maintenance. I am on my 3rd week. I have been in a plateau for 6 months, so he suggested that I eat that amount for a month. Then and only then can I go down to a normal deficit and get the fat loss results. He explained that when your stuck in a plateau for months that the body needs a real break and time to reset itself. It makes sense, right? You may want to give this a try if everything else fails. I just wish I would have known about this months ago. I wouldn't have been stuck for 6 months. I tried taking a break for like 10 days but it just wasn't enough. Hopefully your body isn't as stubborn as mine.
If anything research about resetting the metabolism.
Happy Holidays!
