Do you like long hair (on women)?  At what point does it go from looking good to looking creepy?  At what age does it become weird to have really long hair?

I've always had long hair, about 5~7 inches above my waist. Then I cut it ALL away for Locks of Love or something like that. It was a boy cut, a bit shorter than Agyness Deyn. Well, atually very like this picture: http://fashionista.com/images/agyness-deyn.jp g

And then came the compliments and criticism. While from girls I get mixed reviews, some say I look better with long hair and some say short hair suits me. But from guys, it's always "Grow your hair out, you were better with long hair." So from my personal experience, most guys prefer long hair.

And in my personal opinion, anything around +/- 2 inches around the waist and longer than that gets a bit too long.

I'm growing my hair out now. If there's an age that long hair is "weird" at, I'm DEFINITELY having long hair then!

I love long hair as long as the hemline is neat.  Scraggly, damaged, and thin ends aren't attractive.

ditto. and i've kept it short since last summer. i love it short - so much easier to have it look cute but still not have to do anything with it, and i don't have to wash it as much haha - although when it was super long i didn't necessarily wash it that much either Tongue out

p.s. don't choose the style of your hair just to suit the opposite sex. that would take you back about 60 years. just my opinion, but what happened to women empowerment?

someday i hope to have long flowing gray hair. if its weird all the better. actually i imagine austin prolly has one of the highest concentrations of long flowing gray hair (male and female) than many places in the US. its a liberal counterculture island in a sea of conservative texas lol

i have had my hair long forever, i consider it about as low maintenance as you can get. it does keep getting shorter, but i think it looks better when it looks like i do acutally go get a professional haircut now and again.

thats my daughters influence. she always used to want to straigten it so its flat just like all her friends. so i went i got it cut in long layers, just like all her friends. she doesnt comment on it so much anymore except once and a while she'll mention that i told her i always wanted red hair (cuz its getting rather gray) lol

i value her opinion though so its all good

I think its more to do with the condition of your hair than the length. Seeing people with straggly/frizzy/unclean long hair is icky because it looks a little like they don't care about themselves, which is never attractive. Long hair actually takes quite a lot of care, because its so old and more fragile, but if you're prepared to invest the time I'd say go for it. I'm sure you'd look very pretty Smile. I agree with musicalfishmich though, wear your hair the way you like it and not just to please guys - confidence is much more important.

I have medium ish length hair. I know that my hair doesnt look good too short, I just look like a boy after that. Its what suits the person. With super long hair I look like a hippie even if it has a decent cut to it.

I've never cut my hair, and it falls to my jeans pockets now.  Most of the people I've met really like it, men and women (and want to play with it lol).  I agree with fruit_fairy in that long hair does take a lot of work to care for.  I consider the time I spend caring for it worth it though.  Having hair that long makes me feel beautiful and confident.  :)  My mother used to have hair down to her butt as well, but cut it off to her shoulders when she had me.

I think hair becomes creepy looking only when it's not well-cared for, and that any drastic change in hairstyle will be odd for a while.  Pick something that makes you feel gorgeous.  :D

as long as you keep it nice and clean and well taken care of (ie: no frizzies, split ends, bad roots, uneven lines, sgraggly, dead and frie etc)

basically it looks good if you keep it healthy, shiny and regularly trimmed to avoid ugly damage... trashy hippie hair is unnattractive on everyone

but i'd say anything much longer then about 2-3 inches below your breasts is pushing it

you want it to look like hair, not a blanket

disclaimer: the longer the hair, the less you can do with it. It takes much longer to blow dry, curl, straighten, style, etc then shorter hair, which is why you always see people with long hair wearing it in a bun or ponytail

so if you have the time a patience to actually style your hair, then go for it... but most people probably wouldnt want to spend much more then 20 minutes doing their hair daily.. and guess what? you can wear a bun or ponytail with short hair! so if you wont be able to continuosly upkeep it, it's probably not worth the effort

in my experience guys like long hair, its more feminen... but there is a fine line between looking hot and looking like a crazy person whos scared of hair dressers haha

hmm. i don't tend to brush nor wash my hair on a regular basis, and whether long or short tend to form dreads without trying. and, from male and female i tend to get compliments on my hair.

my point? you and i would not get along. and that statement kind of offends me.

and personally, working at hooters is unattractive and trashy on everyone, IMO.

I think both short and long hair looks good on women, it just depends on how well they wear whatever length they choose.  I have always had long hair, except for one time when I cut it to my chin.  It was really cute and I got a lot of compliments but I find people are more inclined to comment on long hair, especially if it's healthy looking.

To answer the other questions, I think it looks creepy if it's in bad condition, and I don't think there is ever an age where long hair becomes weird (on a woman).

I see a lot of people saying that age doesn't matter. So how is that we don't really see elderly women with longer hair? Is it just that hair just doesn't grow any longer than shoulder length when you get older? Do they just like short permed hairstyle for volume?

I have had long hair, medium, and short. I have gotten the most compliments on my short hair. Everyone had long hair so it didn't seem very unique. And most people have pretty healthy hair. As I started going shorter though more and more people would compliment me. The woman who cuts my hair really plays with trends, layers, and all that hoopla so it always comes out looking super trendy. Finally, I have short-short hair with highlights (really shows off the cut). Girls and guys love it! Guys think its sexy because i show off confidence. Girls like it cause its fashionable, stylish, and most girls where I am from wouldn't get it.

Isn't confidence (and a beautiful haircut) much more sexy?

Walk around like you own the place and ta-dah! instant chicness (whether you get it from short, medium, or long hair!)

i've had super short hair and longer hair... my hair is best somewhere in between. if it starts getting too long it gets gross looking (i have very thick frizzy hair) and its a pain to take care of.. blow drying and then straightening it takes forever. i am growing it out for my wedding next June but after that i'm getting a "newlywed chop"

I think a lot of the reason behind that is as people get older their hair tends to thin a lot.  I believe that is also the rationale behind the curly helmet hair.

I'd never keep my hair a way I didn't like it for a guy.  My husband likes my long hair, but there WAS a point in time where I was about |---| THIS close to shaving my head, buzz cut style.

I am just really curious about real people's opinions.  I see these makeover shows, and they are always cutting off long hair to shoulder length and saying that it's "Too Long" and doesn't look good too long.  Like it is not stylish.  I understand it looks nasty if it's not healthy, but healthy long hair is not stylish?  Since when?

Yeah, as you get older the hair tends to get thinner, and then it just looks unhealthy if you keep it long.

Mine used to be down to about my waist, and now it's just below my shoulders.  If I let get about 1/2 way down my back it starts to look straggly.

As long as its thick and healthy (and clean) then go with it.  I only wash mine with shampoo and conditioner 1-2 times per week, but it generally gets a rinse every day.

Too long, is when you have to pull it out of the way to sit down, or keep others from sitting on it.  Actually I would always get mine cut if it started getting tucked into my pants...lol.  Didn't wnat to have to deal with sitting on it (or having it hang into the toilet!!!)

I'm in no way an expert, but I would imagine that the reason they cut off long hair is because shoulder-length hair is easier to style.

I wear my long hair up in a messy bun almost everyday.  Reason being I work out in the morning, and I don't have the time to blow dry and style my hair after my shower (it takes about 1.5-2 hours altogether).   So yeah, I look pretty dowdy most of the time.  If I were to get a makeover, probably the first thing they would do would be give me a hairstyle that I would actually flaunt.

However, most people think my hair looks great when I DO take the trouble to style it, so I wouldn't say that long hair is necessarily unstylish.  I think stylish is whatever looks good on ya.

Just my thoughts. =)

totally agree! :)

I love long hair on women. I'm biased though, my hair comes down to about 1in above my belt. In my experience, both men and women love my hair. It's healthy, long, and blonde. I've only had the urge to cut it twice, but haven't taken more than 3 inches off in about 11 years!

Alot of my friends cut their hair off after they had kids, claiming it was less maintenance. They spend more time doing their hair then I do! I agree that you should pick a style that works for you, not what someone else likes!

umm, I don't work at hooters..

not washing your hair or brushing it tends to be perceived as laziness and a lack of self respect

ever watch What Not to Wear? those "fashion offenders" who keep their hair unkempt and messy are always made to change it.. and the end result looks much better.

I don't know you personally, but did you ever think that maybe sometimes people are lying? Like I know people who will go up to someone and be like "oh those shoes are cute" but then turn to another person and be like "what was she thinking?? those are hideous"

this happens all the time.. when you have nothing nice to say, lie. If your friend asked you if those pants make her look fat, you probably would'nt say "yeah you look like a beached whale, you should lose 20lbs".. you don't want to hurt her feelings, so you'd say "yah those look nice" or maybe you will be a little more truthful and say "I don't like them that much".. but never something hurtful, at least I hope not

I dunno if this is the same situation, like I said I don't know you... but whatever, be offended if you want. I'm just voicing my opinion like the OP asked to
