How long do you keep your leftovers?
A lot of you have written to say that you cook and then store the leftovers in bags for the rest of the week. How long do you keep your leftovers? Like grilled chicken or hamburger for example?
I try to use up leftovers within a couple of days. If it's going to be longer than that I'll freeze whatever it is (if appropriate).
Two to three days, then it gets tossed.
yeah, about 2 days. I'll make it on Monday night and it should be eaten by Wednesday night or else I'll throw it away.
I cook batches and freeze mine in portions and take out just what I need. For fresh veggies, I cut up enough for 5 days and keep them in a green bag to stay fresh and crisp. Leftovers from meals - 3 days max, then out it goes.
guess i'm in the minority on this one. many of the leftovers i have are still good up to a week later, especially proteins. i've found that if i wrap them tightly in plastic wrap (or ziplock bag) they do best. my guess on why that work best is that there's less air contactthat way (as opposed to using tupperware type packaging). to me potatoes seem to have the shortest refrigerator shelf life. i use to have a problem with rice, until i learned to add a small amount of water to the bowl while nuking.
When I have left overs (which is VERY RARE for me! ha ha ha) I typically use them within 2 to 4 days (max) - I get a tiny bit paranoid that they will go bad if I keep them in there any longer -
I make my lunches for the week on Sunday - store them in an air tight container and Friday's lunch is always fine - so for me 5 or 6 days. I must admit though by Friday - I'm sick of it!!!
I keep them til they smell or are growing things.... I wish I was kidding. Hasn't killed me yet! But I'd probably listen to everyone else, not me, haha.
